Friendly staff, super tiny but clean rooms very convenient for the train station, good if you only plan on using it as a base as the lobby is tiny too. Breakfast is fine, if not a little unusual in some parts (unless you happen to be Japanese, I assume,).

Hotel is just five minutes from Kyoto station. Rooms are small so you don't want to hang around the hotel too much but everything is efficient, it is not expensive and is an excellent base to explore Kyoto. Laundry is available along with a vending machine and an in room fridge. Shower is very good and staff were very pleasant...

We stayed in this hotel on our honeymoon mainly because it fit our price bracket during a long stay. The room we stayed in was extremely small (basically just a bed and a dresser) but that's to be expected at the price we paid in Japan. It's very well located near the main railway station in Kyoto. There is a...

Had a horrible experience at this hotel, and thankfully only had to spend minimal time at it. Yes the location is great, but there are many many many other hotels surrounding it. Very uncomfortable sleeping and I do understand that some hotels may shut their a/c off in the winter but as someone who comes from a much colder climate...

First off I loved Japan, the people and Kyoto. This hotel has one terrible issue - BLACK MOLD!! I have photos. The tiny (but tall) tub enclosure is just set in with no calck or molding so the walls get wet and are totally covered with black mold. The hotel location is great, the rooms are tiny - the AC...

Got a chance to spend 2 nights at this hotel. The best thing for this hotel is the location, which is a walking distance (5 min) from Kyoto station. There are 2 convenient stores closed by. However, the hotel is not that big. Also, the staffs have limited English skills. I haven't tried their breakfast, but it seems that the...

This hotel's lobby was incredibly... tiny! I couldn't bring along with my stuffs to the reception counter during arrival due to the lobby was fully occupied with luggage! With the presence of rude mainland Chinese, I got the feeling of going inside a refugee camp! With the help of partner, I hardly finished my check-in procedures and got my room....

Don't think that a semi-double room is a double. Its not. The bed is like a wide single bed and not enough room for two normal size (not big) adults to get a decent nights sleep in. The hotel location was great though and the staff were helpful so we were happy with the hotel in general, just wished we'd...

Staying in Shimogyo-ku

Neighbourhood Profile
Shimogyo-ku
Shimogyo-ku is centered around the busy train hub, Kyoto Station. A nexus for commerce, shopping, dining, and hotels, the Shimogyo-ku area is infused with tourists and local business travelers, making it a competitive location for ever-new commercial structures. The shops and cafes here are chic and trendy, as a result, with many recognizable chains. Commuters flood the Shimogyo-ku area twice a day, and with Kyoto Station itself being a modern mega-complex and an architectural marvel, this neighborhood is one of the most contemporary and energetic areas that the city has to offer. Buildings here look futuristic, and huge department stores, shopping arcades, and public meeting spaces provide every possible convenience. It is also nearly the only place in Kyoto where rooftop dining and socializing is available, completing its modern tone.
