I had an economic room with shared shower; the room was clean though not brand new, had a large window on the street and good AC.

It depend's on what time early morning. If you are travelling After 6:00 AM or Before. If you are Travelling After 6:00 AM goto Namba and take the Itami-Airport Limousine Bus. It will cost you around 640 Yen to 790 Yen. it will take about 40 min to 50 min.
If you are Travelling before 6 AM, You can take the Subway, Midosuji Line from Dobutsuen-Mae Station, after that take the Mono-Rail to Osaka-Airport. It will take about One Hour, about 730 Yen.
