Value
Stay at BackHome for a unique stay in a converted pre-war building located in the heritage district, with guided walks to let you experience KL just like the locals do. BackHome is housed in a row of pre-war shophouses, carefully preserved since the 1880s. The modern interiors feature spacious dorms built around a light filled courtyard, a screening room and a buzzing hipster café that serves the best coffee in the area. We are situated in a historic neighbourhood, with many textile, sundry shops and food outlets still being run by the same families. Popular destinations such as Chinatown, local bazaars, 100 year-old temples, a 100 year-old rainforest reserve lets you experience the many facets of Kuala Lumpur. We aim to show you the best of what KL has to offer through our popular guided walks. These include a food tour in the last surviving Malay Village in the city, biking tours and a hike up a magnificent limestone ridge.

This is an incredible hostel from beginning to end!

I had arrived after a long bus and transit ride from another city, and as I walked into BackHome Hostel, I was welcomed instantly and warmly! I was even given a cold refreshing drink to cool down after my long journey!

I believe the name of the lady who was so friendly and welcoming was Olivia - she was incredible and also gave me a full tour of the place before showing me to my room.

The room and washrooms were very clean, garbages were emptied regularly, staff came into sweep the floors at least 1x/day.

The one odd thing with the room I was staying in (4 bed female dorm #208 I think) was that the other bottom bunk had their light facing towards my bed instead of away and unfortunately that person continuously fell asleep with the light on and it was directly lighting up my whole bed all night. A curtain for this aspect would be great.

Overall, this is an awesome hostel, it’s in a great location to some sights, and right beside a transit stop making it easy to go anywhere. The hostel itself is very neat and clean. The staff go above and beyond every day, I would definitely recommend BackHome Kuala Lumpur!!

Hi there ! Thank you so much for taking the time to write such a wonderful review about us ! We're very happy to hear that you had a great stay with us and found our staff to be super friendly and welcoming. Viola (whom checked you in) sends her regards and was very happy to welcome you. We've taken note on your remark on curtains and will definitely take it into consideration for our next upgrade plans. Thanks for pointing that out. Aside from that, we're glad you had a good stay and are looking forward to seeing you again in the future !

Excellent experience throughout the stay. The hostel is beautifully decorated, well planned out, spotlessly clean and warmly hosted. Viola remembered both of our names from get go, and made an effort to address us by our (rather difficult!) names throughout the stay! They serve simple breakfast every day Plus a traditional Malay special breakfast every Thursday which is delicious and you can go for seconds too:) Coffee, tea and filtered water is complimentary and available throughout the day. We've stayed in a private double bedroom, which was small but comfortable - great bed, AC, sink and even a pair of earplugs in case of noise from the courtyard which it faces. Location is great, close to public transport and easy and cheap to get anywhere with Grab. Highly recommended to solo travellers, couples and even families!

We ended up here bc our friend raved about this place, and we were not disappointed.

My wife and I felt so comfortable here, we extended our 2-night stay (mixed 6 person dorm) by a night (private standard double) followed by a second additional night (private triple). We had to switch rooms because the facilities we're nearly fully booked due to its popularity and holiday weekend.

All rooms were clean and spacious, incl mixed dorm room. The rooms include a sink. We enjoyed the double office desk in our triple room where we spent hours getting some work done.

Eating area and common area is ideal to meet other travelers or find your own private nook, whatever your mood for the day.

This place even has a movie room that will remind you of the Terrace House playroom.

Prime location for walking to popular sites or train station.

The best part of your stay at Back home will be the helpful, kind, and knowledgeable staff who you will soon become your new friends. The team will help you find the tastiest eateries or suggest an itinerary for your day based on your interests.

I highly recommend booking your next KL accommodation with BackHome. We will surely be back.

I’ve been to many hostels but this one is in my top 5 of best hostels ever! Why? I booked the 4 dorm bedroom. It was spacious, you have the feeling you’re in a real hotelroom, the beds are great (a real matress!!) and large. The showers and toilets were clean. You can iron your clothes. They have a separate space with a big TV screen where you can watch movies. Free coffee, water and tea all day long. Breakfast is included in the price (cornflakes with milk, toast and some jelly). The staff memorize your name and will (almost) always greet you with your firstname, which gives you a very welcoming and personal feeling. They are also very helpful and friendly. The only downside is that there are no curtains on the beds. That would be nice to have some more privacy. But except from that I give them a 10/10! Keep up the good work!! ⭐️⭐️⭐️⭐️⭐️

Hey Melissa, Thank you so much for writing such a wonderful review ! We're super happy to hear that you had such a great stay with us. Our dorm rooms are more spacious that what backpackers are used to - so it's great to hear that you really appreciated that. The TV room is also super popular among our guests, especially since we signed on to Netflix. We've taken note of your comment on the curtains, and will definitely consider it for our next major upgrade. Thanks once again for choosing to stay with us. We really hope to be able to see you again in the future !

BackHome is a modern and super clean hostel in a great central location. Housed in what was once a row of shophouses in a historic part of the city, it has been designed with care and consideration of a traveller’s needs. The hostel has a relaxed vibe with various common spaces, including a courtyard which adjoins a hip cafe and theatre room to chill out in. The dorm rooms are spacious with large lockers and plenty of hooks to hang your towels, etc on. The beds are very comfortable with individual power sockets, lights and shelves. The bathrooms are super clean and showers have great pressure and hot water which is always a plus. The staff are friendly and helpful answering questions and the hostel offers regular weekly events like afternoon tea and dinner nights for guests to meet and socialise. I would definitely stay here again.

Hi there, Thank you for such a detailed review about our hostel ! We're happy to hear that you had such a great experience staying with us. Our common spaces are usually our guests' favourite part - as there's plenty of room to mingle and socialize with other guests. The movie room is also a hit, especially since we signed on to Netflix. We love hosting these weekly events as it helps us get to know our guests better, and at the same time provides a platform for everyone to get to know each other. Thanks so much for the wonderful review. We really appreciate it and would love to see you back here in KL again !

We just fell in love with Back Home from the moment we arrived. The staff are just so lovely and welcoming and provide some amazing local insights into KL which really made our time there so much more special. Our room was just lovely and spacious with room to work too and space for our luggage. The beds too were comfortable and the AC worked perfectly. We loved the layout of the hostel too with the various chill out areas and the cinema room too. Brekkie was great and we particularly loved the Malaysian breakfast on Thursdays and wished it was on everyday! We also checked out the LOKL cafe next door which offered great coffee and fantastic healthy western style food.

The hostel is near to masjid jamek lrt station. Overall, it is a good and clean place to stay but there is a room for improvement. The water from tap has a peculiar smell. It would be better if the free breakfast has wider selection (e.g. cereal).

The hostel has a perfect location (walking distance to most of main attractions), rooms are very comfortable and clean. The design of the hostel is very modern and hipsterish which makes you want to spend time in common areas. I spent 3 nights here and would recommend this place for people visiting Kuala Lumpur.

Hi Malvina, Thank you for taking the time to write a review about us. We're happy to hear that you loved the design of our hostel. In designing it - we were mindful of ensuring that our guests will enjoy unwinding in our spaces amidst the fast-paced city of Kuala Lumpur. Our location is one of our strong suits - the proximity to major train stations and tourist attractions make it super convenient for our guests to move about. Hi Courteney, For the Deluxe 4 beds dorm, it will be charge per bed instead of per person as it is a queen size bed. Just a reminder that when you book for this dorms, you will have to choose 1 instead of 2 as the website indicate it as 1 bed instead of 1 pax.

Hi hedyhee, Thank you for your inquiry. We do not provide any parking, however, we do have a few options to park around the area. You may choose to park at the Reggae Mansion or Segi College parking lot. Both these locations are less than 5 minutes walk from our hostel. Alternatively, there is also an open car park located next to the Allianz building which is approximately RM23 per day. The Menara Olympia building nearby Telekom Museum also has parking available.

Hi Cory, Thanks for inquiry. Do make sure that your booking is for 13 September to stay the night. If it is made for 14 September (on your arrival day at 1am), you can only check in at 3pm.
