location: a tad out of the way, but 5-10min walk to a train station (only takes like 10-15 mins to get to any good location). right next to a 7/11 and an atm at the petrol station.
price: cheap as chips. ended up being like 19$ aus per night (about the same US$).
rooms: no problems. a group of us had 3 different rooms and they were comfortable and clean. TV has limited channels... but whos gonna watch tv? :). There is wifi, and 2 computers to use in the lobby.
service: very friendly, and reliable. You can keep your cash and passports with them at the counter (seal them in an envelope, i guess).
Air conditioning can be improved further.
Free wifi provided. The bed is comfortable and soft. Considering the price, we may return to the hotel when we are travelling in group in future.
We only stayed one night at V Hotel on our trip. We choose Vhotel because of the access to the station. Our plan was to catsh a flight at 6 AM from LCCT (the KL low cost terminal). The Hotel staff was willing to call a taxi for us in advance but since we were so close to the station it will be easier to use the public transportation. The price with a taxi cost 80 MYR (26 USD or 20 EUR) if you book inadvance.
It managed for us to find the bridge over the highway and buy train and bus tickets for 10 MYR each (3 USD or 2.50 EUR) much cheaper than taxi. So on the very morning at 4 AM we set off to the station. Unfortunately the bridge was closed with a lock during nighthour and is open at 7 AM. To late for us. So we felt very frustrated and afterwards the staff in the hotel told us, that the bridge is closed every night, but they don't borther to tell us!!
We managed to catch our flight by paying for a taxi which cost 120 MYR (almost 40 USD or 30 EUR). The staff at the hotel was willing to call a taxi for us. I think the driver was in family with one of the staff on duty that night.
So the whole idea with chosing a hotel close to a station is not realistic and you might find a hotel near KL sentral instead.
The postive thing with VHotel is it is clean and the room got aircon. You can hear the highway.
Pros:
1. Excellent service: All the staff were very friendly and helpful. What impressed me the most was that they took an extra mile to check the room immediately after we check out to ensure that we did not leave anything behind. These items found were returned to the customers immediately before the tour bus leave the hotel. This is the first hotel that takes an extra mile to provide this service.
2. Clean and functional room: The room is clean and value for money. For the price I am paying, I am able to enjoy cable TV movies and sports. Despite spartan furniture, they are well-maintained. There is a hotel and cold water dispenser in each floor near the lifts. This is convenient as there is no need to boil water and we can save on mineral water.
3. Despite its remote location, there is a Old Town Coffee outside the hotel. It is open at night. Thus there is never a worry of empty stomach. It is also near Sunway Lagoon. There are 2 coffee shops along the stretch but I did not try the food. I also see a 7 Eleven.
4. The hot water in the shower heats up very fast.
5. it is a safe hotel as there is only one entrance and it is guarded by a security guard and staff.
6. There is free WiFi in every room. Thus you can save money from overseas calls by using WiFi watsapp or calls. WiFi was reliable and strong in our 4 days there.
Cons:
1. Beware the door: There is an manual door closer that is supposed to close the door after you open it. To my horror, it only pushes the door to the lever. But it does close the door unlike most hotels. Moreover, you will have no idea that the door did not close as there is no sound emitted for doors not closed. Hence, I found myself assuming the door is closed in my room only to later realise it did not. This can pose a security problem. I am not sure if other rooms have the same problem.
2. A partition of Old Town Coffee is cordoned for hotel guests to have free breakfast. The hotel breakfast coffee is lukewarm and slightly cold despite us being the first to have breakfast at 7am. The gravy for the noodles is not warm too. The bread is hard and hardly appetising. There is little breakfast variety. Only coffee, fish cake noodles, bread, kaya, fried noodles and fried eggs. I wonder if this is a ploy by Old Town Coffee to encourage customers to go to the other partitioned Old Town Coffee for paid breakfast set.
3. They should install hangers for clothes in the shower area. I can't find any place to hang my towel and clothes when bathing. Very often, the toilet flush cover became a place we used to put the clothes.
4. it is located near a train station. But there is no shopping around it. It is dark and quiet at night.
5. The aircon in the room does not work properly. Mine at level 5 can be adjusted to 16 degrees and still not very cold. My friends' room is level 3 was freezing cold at 20 degrees.
6. The paint is fading and hotels looks old.
Overall, I will highly recommend this hotel due to its good service and clean rooms. The cons are something I can overlook as it is fair deal for the price I am paying for.
The reason we have scored it so low is because of a number of things:
wifi didn't work in room (it did in lobby so we had to spend an hour downstairs planning the next leg of our trip)
we booked a double room but got a twin despite the hotel clearly having rooms
Although the rooms are non smoking the pervading smell of smoke in the corridors is unpleasant
Breakfast was poor (its a set menu and the staff were inflexible i.e. change the drink on the set menu from coffee to water - we would have to pay for water)
However the bit that has really got my goat was the barefaced lies we were told regarding getting a taxi to the airport the following morning. We asked if we could order a taxi to take us to LCCT - we were told it would cost RM80. After we asked for the cost to be repeated as we felt it was steep, the receptionist told us that it costs the same by train. It doesn't - its RM11 each by train and I said so. She capitulated and said it was RM80 as you had to get the bus aswell. Despite knowing this was rubbish, we went ahead and booked the taxi at that price as it was an early flight and my partner in particular didn't want to walk back to the train station and mess about with trains. So the next morning, we were picked up (a sorry looking cab with ripped back seats) but were heartened to see the taxi driver immediately turn on the meter and there were signs in the cab that had a drivers charter of the conduct expected. However we got to the airport and despite the meter saying RM50 - he still wanted RM80 - this said with a smug smile on his face. We paid up as we had agreed the RM80 but we had assumed this wouldn't be far off the meter price - we're also nice people and don't want a row over £6 to spoil our day but I hate unfairness and taxi drivers and their inflated prices epitomise it. I wish the driver hadn't put the meter on so we didn't actually know how much it should cost. I clearly feel that there is some sort of staff kickback because if the hotel staff cared about their customers and the experience they have in Malaysia then they wouldn't willfully mislead them.
Our lack of time and not wanting to confront the unfairness was the part we played. Stay in this hotel if you want a soulless experience.
Most of the frontdesk crews are not Malaysians (could be Filifinos) and i wasnt aware about this. So my big mouth kept on blabbering in Malays and the front receptionist looked at me cluelessly LOL (they seems unfriendly -no smiling smiling- and no communication skill so don't trouble yourself to politely talk about other than your reservation) so be prepared to speak broken English with them (well i was kind of taken aback because they were different than the hotel crew where i stayed in Manila 2 years ago; language was still a problem but they were friendly). However despite of the language and their less communication skill, they were kind enough to let me leave my backpack with the front desk because i checked in 4 hours earlier.
I booked a Superior Deluxe Double Room through a hotel booking site 2 days before the trip and the room was nice and comfortable and big enough for me. The queen size bed, linen and towel are clean and the air condition and the flat screen TV, both were functioning very well.
I couldnt find the iron facilities in the room; went out searching for them and found them in a locker near the elevator (Oh yes being an adventurous solo traveler, i love searching on my own for the things LISTED in the booking slip but no where to be found in the room). Cups with saucers (but no spoons - next time reminds me to bring some plastic spoons along) and coffee & sugar sachets are available in the room. You can find a hot water dispenser/cold/drinking water somewhere outside your room and there is one for each level. However no mini refrigerator inside the room just in case you want to keep some juice or food.
The bathroom, the toilet bowl and the sink bowl were clean. In the bathroom you can find the toothpaste and toothbrush sets, liquid body soap and handwash. The toilet is complete with portable bidet with brass shower holder and hose to proper and comfortable wash (easy to use for Wuduk). The water in the toilet was brownish. So check the quality of the water first before brushing your teeth. Use the drinking water instead or tapau some clean water from the drinking water dispenser outside the room.
For hot food, downstairs, you can find an Oldtown White Coffe restaurant and other local restaurants around the corner. Take note that the hotel's cafe IS the Oldtown White Coffee. The price of a breakfast set in the restaurant is reasonable so i think it is WISER to book the hotel package without breakfast. There is a 7 Eleven nearby.
FYI I dont think the hotel is a budget hotel. With RM119 per night for a queen size bedroom and without breakfast, I dont think this is a budget accommodation. Besides, who wants to take breakfast package with Oldtown White Coffee when you can find this franchise everywhere back in your town.
The hotel is suitable for travelers who have a reason to be in the area or to stay for a night before catching one of the transportation hubs in TBS. For a traveler going around with public transport, the hotel's area is far from the city centre.
While looking through the online information about this hotel, i found a picture mentioned this: "The hotel provides a free daily shuttle service. Details as follow: 10:00 - Free shuttle to Mid Valley & Terminal Bersepadu Selatan (TBS). 14:00- Free shuttle to Sungei Wang & Terminal Bersepadu Selatan (TBS)." I dont think this service exist, because the next day when I checked out at 9.40am, none of the front desk crew mention about this service and they called a Grab for me instead.
Before i left i met the front desk leader??/manager?? (he could be a Malaysian but with the multi nationality of the hotel crews, i dont know anymore but thankgod he can speak good English) who called the Grab for me. He was friendly and helpful and that, at least leave me one reason to come back here, if i ever need to catch something in TBS again.
Pros:
close to TBS bus station
Cheap
Breakfast good (served next door at old town white coffee)
Staff good
Wifi was ok
Cons
Walls/windows thin, can here everything outside and in adjoining rooms
Hotel run down and tatty
Bad location for anything thing else other than bus station.
It's a bit of a dive but served its purpose. Would stay again if in same travel circumstances.
