During check in, we were told that our superior room had a problem with the toilet, so we would be relocated and upgraded to a deluxe room (room #26) until our room was ready at free of charge. We left our bags in the room and headed out for the evening. Once we returned and had a chance to actually spend time in the room, we were shocked to find the room to be such a dump (pictures included).

#1 - safe did not work (batteries had to be replaced)
#2 - cabinet door where the safe was located was practically falling off
#3 - lots of mold above the bed, which contributed to a musty smell in
the room
#4 - the window handles are broken, so it's impossible to open the windows (air the place out) even though the windows are either very thin (or poorly encased) because it's noisy and it literally feels like the windows are actually opened.
#5 - huge hole above the window where we witnessed all kinds of bugs and geckos enter (dont mind the gecko because it feeds on bugs) but nevertheless we were bitten quite a bit during the night
#6 - bathroom is full of mold, we were scared to use the toilet because it looked like it would fall apart
#7 - the wires to the water boiler are exposed, so with the water spraying all over the bathroom, it's a bit nerve wrecking.

The following morning, I spoke with the receptionist and asked if our original room was ready. I explained to her that we were not willing to stay in this room another night. I also pointed out the problems associated with the room. She came upstairs in order for me to show her the problems. She acknowledged them and said that these things should have been reported. I appreciated the comments, but what really ticked me off is that a previous reviewer (see Rob W's review from December 26, I looked at the reviews last night and found this) who had stayed in room 26, reported these problems, which were clearly ignored. This makes me wonder, would these issues be addressed or would another guest be given this room in hopes that they wouldn't complain?

Anyways, we relocated our things to room 35 (the booked room) and were told that the toilet would be repaired by the time we came back in the evening, which it was. The room is clearly in better shape, but the bathroom needs to be upgraded. There's mold almost everywhere and it's not only an unpleasant sight, but also unhealthy (see pictures).

I realize it's a b&b, so I don't expect all the bells and whistles, but I do expect that the basic amenities are in good working order and appearance.

Also, having a railing (picture attached) in the staircase between the ground level and first floor would make things a bit safer. As I was carrying our suitcases down the stairs, I slipped, luckily recovered, but hurt my back, which didn't make a 13 hour flight a pleasant journey.

Last comment, it would be nice for the reception staff to turn their music down because it's difficult to have a conversation with anyone while the radio is always on full blast.

Positives - location

Dear Mike L, we are sorry that your stay in our guesthouse did not meet your expectations. Below is a brief explanation of the facts for better understanding: on the day of your arrival we had a technical problem in the room that was reserved for you. As an immediate repair was not possible, our receptionist just saw the possibility to accommodate you in the room described in your review. Said room was unoccupied for days to repair a broken water pipe. Unfortunately our receptionist overlooked the fact that the room was not yet released for occupancy. By consequence you experienced a guest room that neither meets your nor our standards . Our receptionist should have explained the situation upon your check in and should have assisted you in finding an alternate accommodation in our neighbourhood. Please accept our apologies for this mishap . Yours sincerely, your OP team

The location was convenient but that's about the only positive thing I can mention. Rooms and linen were very unfresh to say the least, curtains were more of a pair or dirty rags, bathroom dirty and only dripping water. The bf was a joke as even the coffee was lukewarm and watery. Hope will not have to stay in any similar places again.

Dear honeyjar240, thank you for your review! We are sorry to hear that our guesthouse did not match your expectations. As we always underline, we offer friendly, simple and clean budget accommodation in downtown KL. We are not a boutique hotel. The reason why we are able to offer our guests attractive room rates is because we follow a no-frills approach. However, we maintain that simple can also be decent. One important element here is cleanliness. Before new guests check in, every room is thoroughly cleaned - that includes of course the bathroom. The curtains in the guestrooms may not be new but they are cleaned on a regular basis. It is of course your privilege to term them "dirty rags" but with all due respect, we believe your description is neither fair nor accurate. Unlike most other guesthouses, we change towels on a daily basis and quickly empty the garbage bins in every room so that our guests feel comfortable when they return to their rooms. We can't be our own judge but we assume that our guesthouse has won the Hostelbookers Cleanliness Award and 3 Tripadvisor Excellence Awards for a reason. Regarding our breakfast which you term a "joke": we serve coffee, tea, milo, 2 kinds of cereal, 2 kinds of bread, 2 jams, kaya and fruits. Of course this is not a continental breakfast that you would find in a five-star hotel. But for most guests this is sufficient to kick-start their day. Madam, you also complain about our "lukewarm and watery coffee". Allow us to enlighten other travelers: the water for the coffee comes from a water dispenser which keeps the water between 80-90 degrees Celsius. Our guests make their own coffee by putting as much or as little Nescafe as they want into a mug before mixing it with water. So when your coffee tasted "watery" then it is maybe not because we did something wrong but rather because of the way you prepared your beverage. Rest assured that we take criticism seriously and that we look at it as an opportunity to improve things where possible. Our reference are reviews that are based on facts rather than inaccurate statements and misleading claims. Respectfully yours, your OP Team

Stayed in the orange pekoe, for 5 nights. We had an family room with 4 beds. Rooms are clean and spacious. Breakfest is basic but good. The location of the guesthouse is perfect. Its in THE middle of KL center, near à few big shoppingmalls like pavilion and berjaya times square. The free bus is just around the corner. Staff is very friendley and gives Answers to all your questions About KL. We woud definetly stay here again.

The guesthouse is a charming little haven from the hustle and bustle of KL. The staff are extremely helpful and go out of the way to give helpful tips to make your stay more enjoyable. The breakfast and availability of the kitchen throughout the day are a bonus, and the location is great to access KL Tower, Petronas Towers and Bukit Bintang, a really exciting area with lots of delicious food. We used the free KL buses nearby to also access other areas .
It is infinitely preferable to stay in a warm homely guesthouse like the Orange Pekoe than one of the big hotels as you feel you are experiencing a more genuine KL stay.

This place is so great! The guesthouse is clean and the decor is updated and soothing. The rooms are big (we stayed in the family room). The beds are comfortable with fresh crisp linens. The bathroom was clean with good water pressure. The curtains covered the windows so our kids didn't wake up early with the sun.

Wifi was excellent in the room.

All but one staff member were extremely friendly. The guys that worked the desk were awesome. Helpful with tourist information. The girl was less than pleasing. She needs some coaching on how to be friendly. But everyone else was amazing.

Breakfast was simple and filling. Fruit, toast, cereal and unlimited coffee and tea. Perfect way to start your day.

Location is a block from the free GoKL bus. Easy to get to all the tourist attractions. Also 2 blocks from the Jalan Alor night market. Several big malls 2 blocks away. The location is excellent!

We would stay here again we loved it!

Don't let Jalan Angsoka fool you--this is a very nice, very clean and well-run little hotel. The staff are great and the rooms are just right. As travellers to KL know, Jalan Alor is the street of food delights. The Nest is a five minute walk away. Want to shop at Pavillion (having saved by staying at the Nest)-that's only about 10-15 minutes by foot. I highly recommend this hotel

My husband, son and I stayed at The Nest Guesthouse for 3 nights in mid May 2012. We loved it here. I must admit, it doesn’t look like much from the front door, but inside is a wonderful oasis of peace and comfort. We had room 27, the family room, which had a queen bed and 2 twins, cotton duvet covered down quilts, a wonderful air conditioner. There were lots of windows in the room, but long drapes to keep the light out if we wished. I did not find street noise to be an issue. The room was pretty quiet. The tile floor helped keep the room cool, the bathroom was very clean and the instant water heater worked great. This was the first “wet” bathroom I’ve had in Malaysia where the drain actually drained ! The free Wifi was fast and dependable. There is a lovely common area with comfortable couches and a large screen TV and 2 ethernet connected computers for guest’ use. The pantry was large, spotlessly clean and had coffee and tea available all day. The breakfast was simple fruit and toast and such, but it was free and there are food stalls all over the area. I meant to take photos of the pantry and lounge area, but I forgo. I am posting pictures of the room, but we were packing our packs so it looks a little messy. Sorry !

We easily walked to Jalan Alor, the famous nightime food street and to Bukit Bintang, the Petronas towers and Golden Triangle. There are 2 monorail stations very close and we used these to connect to the Kommuter trains and the LRTs. In short, a great central location.

But the best thing about the guesthouse was the staff; particularly Jennifer, who was incredibly patient and helpful in telling us which modes of public transport to take to our destinations, helped us print out boarding passes, had suggestions for great places to eat and fun things to do. Several times she poured over the map with us and helped us find our way around. All the staff always had welcoming smiles and offers of help. We truly felt like guests. I highly recommend this guesthouse and I will stay there again when we pass through Kuala Lumpur later in our trip.

We stayed here for six nights as our first experience in a guesthouse. In brief, the guesthouse is a good choice for budget travelers.
And in details;
It is not easy to find the Nest for the first time but using the map in the website and with the help of Google map and GPS of your mobile phone, I am sure you can do it.
5 minute walk to the LRT monorail station, Raja Chulan and about 10 minutes to Bukit Bintang and shopping centers and couple of minutes more or less to Kuala Lampur city center (KLCC) and the Twin Towers, makes it a good choice for those who don’t want to waste their time in traffic of the streets. Considering not so clean quarter, it is super clean. The street walker girls in the neighborhood may be bothering on your way back to your nest, but it may just happen late night.
The staffs are so kind and helpful and you really feel you are one of the nest team and not a guest. There is no safe box in the rooms but valuable things can be locked safe in reception (It was mentioned by the owner that they have a plan for safe boxes in the rooms in coming future). It would be also great if there would be wall mirrors, even small ones in the rooms.
The hot water in shower room was great as the all day hot water in pantry for free tea and coffee. :)
The simple but lovely breakfast (butter and jam and bananas) was also great and doing your own dishes makes you feel you are at home. In the rooms you can find only basic facilities and you should bring or buy shampoos, etc. You can also buy mineral cold water even cheaper than the super market beside. The free of charge wifi is perfect and you can use the two PCs in reception area. The two last nights, we moved to a small room (as all the rooms were full booked and it was a good offer for us, so we did not have to go to another hotel) and despite being small, it was really comfortable as the first room.
If you do not care about luxury and you are low budget travelers, accept my advice and don’t doubt to book for it now. And to the Nest team: I will be back to your nest, please keep the small room near the pantry at reception level for me. ;)

Have always stayed in a nearby hostel, but since that closed down we decided to try something new thos time. The Nest was an excellent choice! It is close to everything and is nice and clean. The staff are welcoming and has a lot of knowledge of the area. Free Internet, free breakfast, niced common area and balcony, 24 hour security, luggage storage and more. However, I wouldn't want to stay there alone as a girl, because the streets surrounding it are not the most welcoming. And the taxi driver used a long time to find it so it is best to show them on the Lonely Planet map where it is. Other than that I have only positive things to say about this hostel. Will recommend it for anybody wanting to stay close to CBD and shopping areas for a low cost. It is a great hostel!

Q1. Is this hoste safe?? ---》Yes. It is safe. When u enter into hostel, u should unlock the door using cardkey. Also u can lock the door of own ur room. But I want to say that u should be careful whenever u back to the hostel at night. The street was too dark near hostel. I recommend u walk to the big street and bright walkway. Q2. About store near this hostel. There was a store all the time. This store is in very close. U can buy everything. Money exchange is located in everywhere so u can find easily whenever u need. Q3. Shuttle from hostel to back to the airport if u need to shuttle to the airport, u can tell the manager of hostel. Then he will call the taxi from hostel to the airport anytime. The taxi cost would be maximum 130 ringgit. It was so comfortable and safe.
