This is the perfect accommodation for those travelling on a tight budget, or upmarket backpackers. We stayed in a budget double room, with private bathroom. The rooms are not big, however they are immaculately clean. The first time we stayed here - the private bathroom was not adjoined to the room. No big deal, as it was only 5 metres down the hall - i walk further in my own house to shower! The bathrooms are asian-style, so they are small with detachable shower head that is located partly over the toilet. Even though they are small - it's clean (which is high priority for me).

The location is excellent - close to two monorail locations, Jalan Alor (famous food street), Bukit Bintang - excellent bar strip/shops and the Valley shopping mall (high end shopping).

Would definitely recommend this hostel, and would stay here again next time we're in Kuala Lumpur :)

I traveld with my husband and 2 young kids (4-year-old, 8-year-old.) to Kuala Lumpur this August. We stayed in a family room for 3 nights. We love the place!

The guesthouse is very clean, lovely, and a little bit "ikea" styled. They have a TV area, computer coner (free), free wifi, a dining area. All of the areas are super clean and comfortable. My kids feel like staying at home. They are not afraid to enter into the dining area or TV area without our company. They provide sandwich bread, jam, kaya, fruit, tea, coffe, cereal, milk, and even chocolate powder (my kids love the drink).

The family room we have is very spacious. The beds are comforable. The room is bright. The shower room attachted is clean and spacious as well. What surprised us is that they provide 3 racks in the room. It is very thoughtful of them to put themselves in travelers' shoes. We all know travellers have more laundry to do when travelling with kids. We have enough racks to hang our washed clothes. That is very very very considerate!

As for the environment, the street outside is a little bit scary: garbage dump, broken tiles, and scattered trash. But when we stepped in the guesthouse, we felt like at home! We forgot what we saw on the street. Also, the street is not dark at night. There are restaurants, supermarkets on the street. There are always people talking, standing on the street. Because there are several hotels around, there are always some taxis waiting there. So, we felt fine when returning back to the guesthouse in the evening. And there was always someone in the guesthoue greeting us and offering help. We were not alone there.

The location is good. Just a few minutes walk you can reach Raja Chulan, one of monorail stations.

We like the place and we have booked another 2 nights for our next trip next January.

I don't usually write reviews on these sites, however our stay at The Nest was fantastic so I thought I would write a quick review. We arrived at the nest very jet lagged and were instantly welcomed by Lupo and Chris. They made us feel comfortable and looked after our every need! The room was very clean (white sheets) and we had no noisy backpackers waking us up at silly hours. Breakfast was toast, tea, coffee and cereal with homemade jam which was more than sufficient. Free internet and fast friendly advice about places to eat and things to do in the local area. Some people have commented on the area outside the guesthouse being a little unsafe, I say not true! Its a little dirty on a night but it just seemed like a normal KL city back street to me with locals socializing and running their shops. It is also in a great location! We tried to book again at the Nest on our return to KL but unfortunately they were full! I would book well in advance if you want to stay here! We will return probably next year! Thanks to all the staff at the nest!!! from Drew and Mel!

Guys, it was a pleasure to have you here. We miss your fantastic energy and hope to have you back some day soon!! Please come back. Take care. All the best from all of us here xoxo

Great value, good location and a nice stay.

A couple of other reviewers have mentioned that the guesthouse is in a bad neighbourhood. I would disagree with this and question whether those reviwers actually knew what a bad neighbourhood looked like! We also thought The Nest was easy enough to find - if you use the map on their website you really can't go wrong.

We stayed here for two nights in April 2012 and we found it a nice and clean place to stay in KL.
The whole building is clean and the beds are definitely bugfree. The premise is at a 5 minute walk from the Raja Chulan monorail stop and at walking distance from the Petronas towers and KL Menara tower. Make sure you go to the hawker stalls in the nearby Jalan Alor.

Good price/quality stay for a short visit to KL.

It was our first visit to Malaysia and KL Sentral Station was under renovation, it took us a lot of asking around, two train rides and a 10-minute walk before we finally reached the Nest. It is within a residential building. Once we got in, everything became cleaner and brighter. With a bench beside a shoe-rack, it is obvious that we are supposed to remove our shoes, so we did. When we climbed to the second level, we felt like entering into somebody’s quiet and neat living room. Cris was there at the reception and he promptly checked us in. We were given Room#12, the nearest room. It was spacious for a couple. As mentioned in other reviews, the bathroom was small but functional. The window faces a garbage dump site so it is kept closed and covered with a decent curtain. We had a good sleep on the comfortable bed. The next morning, when we went out for breakfast, we were delighted to see a nicely arranged and well equipped pantry. Breakfast is available until noon, but one can serve himself coffee, tea or Milo/Ovaltine any time (Am I right about this? Heheh…). Cold drinks are for sale at very reasonable prices. A note suggested that we wash the dishes. We gladly obliged. In fact, we even removed the bread crumbs and cleaned the counter for it is a shame to leave it dirty. There are two computers with internet, a plasma TV and magazines free for public use. For shopping, it is very close to Pavilion, Starhill Gallery and Bukit Bintang. For sight-seeing, a 5-minute walk to Raja Chulan Station will bring you to any major spot in the city by train. The cleanliness of the hostel and the courteousness of its staff must have earned the respect of the guests. Throughout our 3-day stay, everyone we met was polite and well-behaved. Except for the neighborhood (don’t worry, nothing life-threatening, just not so glamorous), everything about the Nest is great. It feels like home! Thanks to Jennifer, Cris and all the staff who are so nice and helpful and who make the place so clean and comfortable. God bless you always!

Dear Tipoe, thank you for taking the time to write this review. We appreciate your feedback and are happy to hear that you felt comfortable at the Nest. Of course, coffee, tea, milo (ovaltine) are freely available 24/7. And yes, we do ask our guests to help us keep the pantry tidy and clean. It's so simple: you do your dishes, other guests do their dishes and the pantry is a feel-good zone for everybody, all the time :-) Cheers from all of us here!

I stayed at Nest with my wife and friends for a couple of nights in May 2012.
1. First and foremost: The rooms and very clean and neat. Bathroom was clean. Bed was clean and comfortable. When you want to spend just the night in the hotel and roam around in the city during day time, you don't really like to spend a lot on the hotel room but still want a good, clean bed to sleep. Nest is perfect place when you have such requirement.
2. The room was small, and we barely managed to keep the luggage. There are no cupboards (at least in my room, there was none). So keep this in mind.
3. They provide free breakfast (which is mainly toast and cereal) from 7 to 10 AM and free coffee throughout the day. Wi-fi is free. Really liked these facilities.
4. It is located very close to central area. Most areas were 10 mins walk away. But it is not located on a big street.
5. The staff was really kind and helpful. They answered all our queries with a smile and provided a lot of useful information about where to go in KL.
6. THEY DO NOT ACCEPT CREDIT CARD. YOU NEED TO CARRY CASH. In our case, we were not carrying enough cash, because we did not expect there would be hotels not accepting card payment! We managed to get the money somehow. This is the only bad experience about this place. They should have informed us while booking on email.

We found The Nest on Tripadvisor and read the reviews. We were the first visitors from our country to visit there and was not disappointed. However when we arrived after 12 on a Friday evening it looked very dodgy from the outside. The night life of KL is something else! once we were inside we were SO surprised. The staff was absolutely friendly. English well spoken. Self-service kind of kitchen brilliant and well stocked. Room of the cleanest. Very quiet. They stored our luggage when we traveled to Tioman Island. I will definitely recommend this excellent guesthouse! Well Done and keep it up!
It is also well situated from the monorail, walking distance from the Pavilion Shopping center and walking distance with the air conditioned walkway to the Petronas Twin Towers and Conference center. I will definitely stay there again!!!

First place i stayed on my 3 month tour. Staff were friendly. Room was ok, very small. Bathroom again, very small. Taking a shower meant most of the bathroom getting wet. Wifi pretty good across the whole area.

If you are looking for a place to sleep and that's it, then this guesthouse is for you. If you like some room comforts, then look elsewhere.

Pros:
- Close to shopping malls.
- Close to food and drinking place.
- Monorail stations nearby.
- Walking distance to a lot of attractions Twin Towers, KL Tower etc.
- Helpful staff
- Reception area and kitchen area had a nice feel, shame some of this decor wasn't used in the rooms.

Cons:

- Rooms are very, very basic. Even the deluxe rooms have only a bed, towels, a reading lamp and a shoe rack. In fact I think the only difference between a deluxe and standard is the size of the room, but since there is no additional furniture in a deluxe it's just costly, wasted, open space.
- The room I stayed in was noisy because the door to the hallway was made from lightweight material and had a big gap at the bottom.
- There was also a bit of street noisy from out the window, which I looks to be a laneway used as a rubbish dump for the restaurants.
- The bathroom was tiny compared to the size of the room. Toilet in the shower, not a big deal except that it took a long, long time to dry out after a shower.
- Taxi driver had a bit of trouble finding the place at night.
- The street the guesthouse is in has potential to be a little dodge and is very dirty. There are prostitutes around at night. I didn't feel unsafe here, but others might.

Overall:

- Great place for people on a tight budget if you stay in the cheaper rooms.
- For the price per night there are much better options around (the 5 Star Istana Hotel next door was only $30 per night more than a deluxe room at The Nest when I looked into options for moving from The Nest)
- Invest in some earplugs if you decide to stay here. Perhaps the upstairs rooms could be quieter than the ones on the reception level.
- I wouldn't stay here again, but this place would be perfect for others. Think about what type of traveller you are when thinking about staying here.

Dear Bobby B, thank you for your detailed review. We appreciate your feedback. Regarding the location of The Nest, you say it all: we are in very central location and walking distance to many attractions. While we can guarantee the cleanliness of our place (we already won a cleanliness award), we unfortunately cannot influence general environmental awareness nor the garbage collection system of city hall. Big cities come with certain phenomena such as noise (although we maintain that we are on a fairly quiet side-road) and also ladies of the night. Travelers who want to avoid these things would probably have to avoid cities altogether. Regarding our rooms, we agree with you that they are basic. Everybody can see that on the pictures that we post on our website and on our tripadvisor profile. We are in the process of furnishing our rooms with desks but that won't change our concept of simplicity. We are a guesthouse and not a hotel. Most of our lovely guests from all over the world travel on a budget. While 30 US-$ price difference may not be a lot of money for you, it is for many budget travelers! To all those who cannot afford "much better" (and much more expensive) alternatives, we will continue to provide simple feel-good accommodation in downtown KL - no more, no less. Cheers, your Nest Team

Q1. Is this hoste safe?? ---》Yes. It is safe. When u enter into hostel, u should unlock the door using cardkey. Also u can lock the door of own ur room. But I want to say that u should be careful whenever u back to the hostel at night. The street was too dark near hostel. I recommend u walk to the big street and bright walkway. Q2. About store near this hostel. There was a store all the time. This store is in very close. U can buy everything. Money exchange is located in everywhere so u can find easily whenever u need. Q3. Shuttle from hostel to back to the airport if u need to shuttle to the airport, u can tell the manager of hostel. Then he will call the taxi from hostel to the airport anytime. The taxi cost would be maximum 130 ringgit. It was so comfortable and safe.
