I enjoyed my stay at ZigZag hostel. I spent numerous night in different typology of rooms: all of them are comfortable and quiet, common toilets are various and fully equipped. The common terrace gives you a nice view over KL and is equipped with fridge, coffee maker, sink, microwave and mini grill oven. Seats and fans are there as well. I will come again!

The place was clean and Sam was very helpful. It was also a nice change to have someone at reception that spoke good English. Free coffee and tea was nice to have. And the wifi was the best we have had maybe ever while traveling. We had a double room on the main floor. I agree with some of the other reviews that it is a bit noisy. The floors make a lot of noise when people walk around. Having said this we were still able to sleep in till 9. We stayed five nights and the only time it got a bit loud was on Saturday night. Maybe it was just the crowd of people but it was very mellow. Great location close to trains and a two minute walk to Chinatown. Could walk to Bukit Bintang in half an hour, and Merdeka Square is 10 minute walk max.

Stayed here on a 3 day stopover in KL. Great location, v near transport (including FREE bus to everywhere touristy).
Very clean and next to Central Market which is a great place to buy gifts and eat (GET MUFFINS).
Amazing value, cool dorm bed layout, big spacious showers with room to do your stretches, and nice staff. Free to use public computer and good WIFI. Bring your own towel though.

Stayed here for 3 nights as a solo female backpacker in May 2015. Depending on what you're expecting and when you go, this place could easily be a 5 star...or a 2 star. There's no disputing that this hostel's best feature is its location, right in the middle of the Kasturi Walk and literally a few steps away from Central Market (a bit hard to find using GPS, though - look for KFC!). From here it's an easy walk to Chinatown, the Pasar Seni MRT station, train station, post office, and smaller bus station. Everything else, however, seems to be a hit or miss - particularly with staff.
Unfortunately when I was there, the front desk was not manned by the friendly staff in the good reviews but by the grumpy and dismissive ones in the bad reviews. In particular the owner was rude and abrasive. When I arrived no one was at the front desk so I waited outside for about 20 minutes, along with another couple, for someone to show up. The owner had gone out for lunch, which was fine, except his attitude towards us when he showed up was indifferent annoyance and his only comments were about payment. That seemed to be the only thing he wanted to talk about: money. Each time I was down in the lounge area his only comment to guests were about whether they had paid or not; he and one guest had a rather heated exchange over pre-payment of an extended stay (he was yelling about them needing to give him their passport, etc.). He was not especially rude to me (probably because I had already paid) but not warm or jovial either. One front desk guy was nice, maybe a little too nice as I saw him arguing with the owner over the treatment of a guest, but he did not seem to work there often. I understand that a hostel is ultimately a business and it must suck to have to chase payment, but seeing people as just bed fillers can be a major turnoff to some travelers.
The facilities were modern and mostly clean while I was there, not stinky or dirty like some reviewers mentioned. Yes, you need to leave your shoes at the bottom of the staircase. I stayed on the second floor, in the Japan room (4-person dorm), and the A/C unit was dripping so there was a bucket there catching the excess water, which made it a bit hard to sleep when combined with the thin walls (or heavy walkers, not sure which). Beyond that, the room was clean and the beds were comfortable enough and smartly designed with privacy curtains, electrical outlets, and lights for each individual bed. Lockers were also available in the room. There are lots of bathrooms and showers on the first floor but only 2 on the second, which was a bit annoying at times. No toiletries at all, not even hand soap, and toilet paper was on the outside so you'll have to grab it before going into the bathroom. Bathrooms and showers were combined so yes, the floor was almost always wet. A VERY basic breakfast (bread, a few spreads, coffee and tea) was provided outside, which was also the smoking area so FYI if you're sensitive to smoke. WIFI was free and did work in the dorm for me, although it was strongest near reception.
All in all I would stay here again, as it has the most important features for me in a hostel (central location, good price, and smart dorm design). Outstanding staff isn't a deal breaker for me although it's always appreciated, can make up for other lacking areas, and is really what separates good hostels from great ones. The place is also small so I can easily see it getting dirty, noisy, and overcrowded during busier times. For budget and solo travelers (I made loads of friends while here) it can be a great place to stay if you know what you're getting. Bottom line: if you're looking for a well-situated hostel and go here with the understanding that the staff and facilities could be hit or miss (hopefully a hit), you'll find a solid place to stay in the great city of KL for a fantastic price.

Very well located next to central market and Kasturi walk (lot of good street food), and next to LRT metro station. Very clean. Free breakfast (bread and jam). Enough toilets and showers for all guests. Fast and reliable Wifi. I stayed in the female dorm, it was comfortable and AC worked well. The stuff are very friendly and helpful.

Get what you pay for and that is a bed in a good location. Private room was fine with air con and a shared hot shower (just remember to hit the switch). Only complaints are the flooring outside the rooms needs some sound insulation under it as you can hear every footstep thundering in your brain when you are in bed, the staff are pretty indifferent and I wouldn't call self- service toast 'breakfast included'.

I have stayed overnight in here twice (at 2015 and 2016) because I satisfied with their service. This place is very comfortable for me as solo travelers. In other side, it isn't far from LRT station (beside Jamek Mosque). We just walked 5 minutes and we could go anywhere by LRT/MRT. In other side, it is very strategic with attraction tourism, such as Lapangan Merdeka, Central Park Market, Bukit Bintang, Chinatown, and others. Moreover, it is near with bus station, such as Puduraya. If you want to go to Singapore, just book KKKL ticket bus in 5 Elements Hotel. You just need 10 minutes for walked from Marquee Guest Houzz to 5 Elements Hotels. For muslim, you can get many halal food in around this lodge. You can find fast food restaurant besides this lodge, or Indian restaurant, or Malaysian Restaurant, or maybe you loves to eat burger? You can find it all.

Good location next to central market and very close to Pasar Seni station. Comfortable to visit Merdeka square, Chinatown, Sri Mahammarian temple. 5 minutes walking there is also Go KL free bus stop.
I slept in a six bed female dorm, room was clean, as were bathrooms. A.c. Worked well and available all day. Dorm is basic, small there is no windows and I so but there was a balcony common area. Locker in the room.
There isn't a particularly social atmosphere but I still have the chance to met and drink with other travellers in the terrace. Good if you're not looking for a party hostel!
A very simple breakfast with toast coffee tea and biscuits is included.
Good for budget travellers.

The hostel is great: clean, very helpfull staff, the furniture in the rooms is pretty new and the wifi is decently fast. The only let down is the breakfast: white sandwich bread, margarine, cheap jam and instant coffee.
