Stayed in Room 317, a 2 Twin Beds Room with Window. PROS: Lantern Hotel is located in the heart of Chinatown. It is close to Pasar Seni Station, which was convenient. Despite other reviews, the Wifi worked well in our room. The free water dispenser on the 2nd floor next to the reception was a major plus. Free breakfast from 7:30am-10:30am. CONS: The only amenities provided were toilet paper, towels, and hand soap. Do not expect shampoo, conditioner, or tissues. The bamboo rack holding the towels kept falling since it was not mounted on the wall but rather secured loosely by two hooks. The curtain for our window was hung by Velcro and kept blowing outward, thus revealing everything in our room to other guests, whenever the A/C was turned on. The window had a view of the hotel's reception floor and it was easy to look into rooms across from ours. I wish there was a desk or counter to put some of our belongings on.

The good things are that it is centrally located and the manager is very friendly and full of good tips. But it’s still a low budget hotel. The bathrooms are moldy, and the breakfast is really not good. It was fine for a night, but I wouldn’t go back.

I booked two rooms. Both rooms had a strong acrid smell. The next day to staff sprayed something to cover the smell but by morning it was back. The bed and floor was clean....but not the bathroom. The wifi does not work in the bedrooms. Avoid this one!

Basic accomodation but boutique in appearance it is clean and well kept. Step out your door and your in the heart of china town or take it in from the deck overlooking the street. Getting here or getting around from here couldnt be easier. Kl airport $20 express train into central station 5$ to motel. Central market 5 min walk away alor street short taxi ride atm right next to it ,laundry 5 min walk and 24 hour store across the road as mentioned stalls, shops and restuarants at your doorstep.

Impressive beyond belief. The midnight check in that we did was smooth and hassle free. The room is extremely clean and odorless(unlike the last couple of hotel I visited locally)and they even offer daily housekeeping without you asking. The location is very near to Pasar Seni train station. Despite it is centrally located in the middle of Petaling Street and overly crowded restaurant downstairs, the hotel is almost sound proof that you couldn’t hear anything from the street. Almost like, you are in your own bubble. The breakfast is more than what we expected and the coffee is so tasty! The service is amazing and me and my partner will definitely come back here again. Highly recommend and love love love.

The Lantern Hotel is a modern and cool place in a good location. The hotel rooms are minimal and clean and the social spaces and terrace are very nice. The breakfast is good. Overall, imo, it is the perfect place to stay, particularly for the "older" backpacker, with a really relaxed atmosphere along with the comforts of a hotel. The manager is a cool and fun guy that had lots of advice!

DO NOT STAY HERE! Rooms sanitary level not up to par and management that lies about your stay when a complaint is made to the booking platform. Two ‘No-Window’ rooms have been booked for a one night stay on the 25th January 2019 via Agoda.com (allotment via Booking.com). Booking ID: 333260413. However upon arrival and check in around 1 pm on the 25th January 2019 by some of the guests in the party, it is discovered that the room is not in a condition fit for human habitation. Upon opening the doors, a strong moldy odor hits their face. Which prompt them to further check the condition of the rooms. It is further discovered that the toilet is covered in mold as well. With molding condition especially visible between tiles joint. The condition was so bad that my companions did not want to remain in the room for a second longer and has not thought about taking video evidence. My companion has reflected the room condition to the front desk and asked that if the management can fix the problem. They have also inquired about the availability of the other rooms in the establishment which they are willing to pay more to upgrade to. The front desk has made no attempts at fixing the problem nor do they offer any apologies for the inconvenience and unpleasantness caused. (Perhaps the front desk thinks my companions are push-over because of their young age) They are informed that they can either stick with the room or leave. After some discussion, my companions have decided to check out (this is before 2 pm, the same day) on the spot due to health and safety concerns. We did not stay for the night. And I, the person who booked the room, did not even set foot in the establishment. My companion proceeds to book another accommodation via Agoda for the same night. I have other experiences booking no-window rooms but none come close to the unpleasantness of these rooms. Due to my work commitments, I was only able to make a complaint and refund request to Agoda.com the next day, which the CS officer handled professionally. However, I was shocked to receive an email reply later on in which the hotel establishment denies the unsanitary condition of the rooms and claims that we have stayed the night there (which we did not). Not only was the refund request rejected, but no apologies were offered throughout the communication. I am already disappointed at the condition of the room and the lack of professionalism of the hotel staff. But to have the management lie and counter accuse their guest of lying is a first in my long experiences of traveling. My advice? Window or No- Window, always avoids dishonest management at all cost. The extra time needed to file a complaint and the back and forth is not worth your time. Not to mention ruining what was supposed to be happy and relaxing times spend with family and friends.

My 11 year old & I spent 10 days between Singapore, Melaka & KL, each in Chinatown boutique hotels. Lantern was 1/3 price of Sing & 1/2 price of Melaka for very comparable hotels, so great value for money. New, modern, bright hotel with an air of a trendy co-working space. Our AC room also had a covered balcony with ceiling fan & shutters overlooking Petaling St, nice to relax while watching & listening to the hustle & bustle down below.

We arrived at the Lantern to find an email saying they had cancelled our booking that day. We were confused but they still allowed us to stay. They gave us the reassurance that construction work happening would not impact our stay but it was clear the hotel was not in a fit state to host people. The key cards did not work. There was hot water in our room. They overcharged us. A power cut with no explanation offered (we were left literally in the dark). I am not someone who would normally complain and I emailed the management after our stay for an explanation to try and get to the bottom of these issues. He ignored my email. What charming customer service...
