My friend and I stayed for almost a week and hated to leave. The hotel itself is beautiful with nice paintings and furnishings in the common areas. The breakfast buffet is amazing with a lot of different options. The staff (in particular Wolmir, William and Jessica) were so helpful and amazing. Wolmir, helped us find guides and was there for anything we needed--and he spoke English! William did as well and most of the other staff used google translator to make sure our needs were met. The pool area was great, especially the indoor thermal pool. We even got a massage at the hotel which was very relaxing. The food in the restaurant was not as good as the breakfast buffet but was ok. The elevator worked but was pretty small if you are claustrophobic.

First up the Minas Gerais is neither cutting edge boutique, modern branded, luxury, or alternative. The Minas Gerais is an older hotel which has been modernised to some extent. Staff are friendly and capable, rooms clean and adequate. I have stayed at 3-4 different hotels in Pocos de Caldas and the Minas Gerais is the best one in my opinion. Quiet, nice breakfast, Internet, clean, convenient location. Does the job in Pocos.

For our trip to Poços, we decided not to stay in an Ibis-like hotel but to look for something more authentic and charming instead. That's just what we got with Hotel Minas Gerais. It's ideally located in the center of the city, and has an own parking which is very convenient if you're traveling by car. Inside, it becomes clear that this is a hotel with a long tradition. Much of the hotel has been refurbished, looks clean and new, without losing it's old charm. The pool area is also very nice. We were so satisfied that we decided to stay an additional night. We had to switch rooms but got a much bigger (and nicer) room for the same price. Breakfast was also good. Only remarks would be that the rooms can be rather noisy (we had rooms next to the street) and that there is no hair dryer in the room (only available at reception).

This old hotel has been refurbished and is now very good. Breakfast with good variety including traditional cheeses of Minas Gerais. Good Internet link. If your lap top for Soni Wayo report before to Karina at the concierge. She can help you because sometimes the link goes down. Good pool area at the back of the hotel and beautiful view of the back rooms to the Montains. The advantage is that it gives to walk to the central market town and spa of hot water. The hotel is 10 minutes by taxi from the bus station. But it also has its own parking. I was glad to be there.

First, as you can see I'm American, so my take on hotels is different than many Brazilians. Second, I traveled with my 7 month old daughter. So, that always alters my opinions on things. On to the review. Overall, I was very pleased with the hotel. It has a wonderful old charm that the staff takes greats lengths to maintain. It was very clean! I have to agree with some of the other reviews, the staff are fantastic! They were very attentive to our needs for our infant.

There are a couple of things I wish were better. The hotel has designated meal times, which normally isn't a problem. However, our daughter made it almost impossible to keep within that schedule. Unfortunately, my husband and I would have to take shifts to eat. If they had some kind of room service that would have been great. We would have happily paid for the convenience. But, I understand we are in circumstances that do not effect many other travelers. So, really it was no big deal.
My husband did complain about the the spotty Wifi reception. We don't know if it was our room location, which was at the farthest room in the hotel, or the Wifi itself. But, he had business to conduct all weekend and the connection kept dropping. He was very frustrated.
We were a little disappointed that the room was really small (average for Brazil though) and located over the kitchen and pool areas. So, the food smells and noises were continuously in our room. But, the room was very clean and the maid service was fantastic.

We used the 3rd party tour operator, kinda. We started with them, but people wouldn't return when they were supposed to and would hold the bus up for 15+ mins at each stop. We left after the 3rd stop. It's not the tour's fault, it's rude people. You can see all the stops without the tour. It's your choice- just a warning.
Overall, we'd stay at the hotel again.

Do NOT stay at this hotel. This is the worst hotel I’ve ever stayed at. After a 20hr+ trip (solo with a baby) I got to the hotel and was advised they do NOT have anyone to assist to take the luggage to the rooms and the guests have to do that by themselves. (Even having a baby in my arms). Then I was given a room on the third floor (last room of the 3rd floor) to take baby, luggages and stroller. The ELEVATOR DOES NOT go to the third floor. You have to take the service elevator to the second floor and switch to the main elevator down the hallway to take the next elevator to the third floor. Also, the elevators are so small you CANNOT fit two standard size luggages plus 2 people inside (and the elevators are stuck in the 50s and probably gonna stop working at any moment). Once you figure it out on your own how to get to your room (because at any point anyone offer to show you around the hotel or any help) you get disappointed once again with the oldest rooms you will ever see. Also, this hotel is not carriage or disabled accessible at all there are NO RAMPS anywhere so going to breakfast or the lobby you have to figure it out how to go down 4-5 flights of stairs with stroller/ wheelchair. (Also no help ever offered)… if you need to wash the bottles for baby.. you will be told find the nearest sink or do it inside the bathroom sink in your bedroom !!!! Yep, I was told that. The hotel DOES NOT have lunch/dinner you have to call the lobby in advance and pay a ridiculous amount of money for the nastiest food you will ever see that will end up in the garbage (really can’t be eaten. (And it takes about 40mins to be delivered to the room because the hotel orders it for the cheapest restaurant in town and probably makes some money on top of the real price).
Now if you have kids, beware this is the most ridiculous place on earth. There is a tiny section of toys for kids in the kiddie friendly area. However, the gates to the pools are wide open tied with metal hooks so the kids can run straight to the pool, the outlets are not covered and the kids can just put their tiny fingers straight in them (and they are all over the room at the kids heights). Also, the platform for the bouncy house is loose and almost turned over with my daughter and other kids. The room service is despicable and left a plate of food in my room for two days and did not exchange my towels for days as well. I also asked to borrow a vacuum (to vacuum seal a bag for storage of stuff in my luggage) and was told the hotel doesn’t have a vacuum!
I spent two days in the hospital with my baby as soon as I arrived in the hotel and not only I wasn’t offered any help the manager told my family members that came to visit the baby that they could only stay for a max of 10mins otherwise I would have to pay a fee of 20$ (which I had no choice but to do it for one guest).
This hotel is beyond ridiculous, has horrible service, plenty of violations and should not be opened for service! Please STAY AWAY FROM THIS PLACE FOR YOUR HEALTH AND SANITY!

First of all, I should have done this review last year, but, family health problems got on the way, unfortunately... Excellent hotel very well located, at the centre of Pocos de Caldas, I've been there on June 2017, with my husband and my family, who lives in Brazil, never stayed there before, now, everytime I'll be back to Pocos de Caldas_MG, I want to stay at the Minas Gerais Hotel, excellent hotel, very friendly staff, food, awwww, is to die forrrr, delicious... Excellent breakfast, extreme variety of breads, cakes, juices, yogurts and etc, lunch and dinner very good as well, lovely desserts, not like in some other Hotels in Pocos de Caldas, which only desserts are Doces de Minas (Minas Gerais desserts_all very sweet, like jams and toffees), they have these kind of desserts and more, like mousses, lovely variety...Very organized place, clean, comfortable and very cosy bedrooms... Beautiful outdoor pool and a small indoor pool, medium size gym, games room, children's playground and a beautiful bar(according to my "English one", lol), when I was there they were installing air conditioner in the rooms, so, I believe, now the rooms must all have air conditioner. Oh, and what can I say about the staff? The people from the kitchen, restaurant waiters, specially the waiter Anderson and the manager Mr. Sidney, all of them are very good and attentive to the customers, as I said before, I was travelling with my husband (from England), he loved the Hotel and want to come back and stay there too and my family, my father was using a wheelchair at the time, so, we had to rely on the Hotel staff to help us sometimes, that weren't their obligation, but, they kindly helped at all moments... They don't hesitate to go "the extra mile" for their customers. This Hotel, will always be in my heart, because, I could finally take my husband there to know the lovely Pocos and because, staying there, was the last travel I made with my beloved father... What a remarkable holiday at this remarkable hotel, I can't wait to come back asap...

The hotel continues to maintain its quality in service. Strong point. This time we stayed the whole family (wife and niece) in a double apartment. Good bed, Good internet link, Excellent breakfast with 4 fruits, 2 juices, lots of variety of cakes and biscuits. And the traditional cheese bread. Omelette and sausage in the sauce. Dinner ten. It has parking. The leisure area the girls took advantage of: saauna, pool and had a chow the night for the senior tour that was in the hotel with music right from the 50s, 60s, 70s and 80s. Anyway while working during the day (someone has to work) the girls took advantage of the hotel and the pleasant city of Poços de Caldas / MG
