Detailed Reviews
We stayed at Hotel Dan Inn Mar in Recife in June. The roomrate was quite expensive but since it was during the World Cup it was no surprise.
We stayed in a tripleroom and the room was really big, comfortable and clean and had a seaview. The room had a safetybox but wifi was not included, you had to go to the reception or the restaurant for free wifi.
The bathroom was big but had a waterleakage and the toilet got broken after a few days. The toilet was repaired once the staff understood what was wrong. Most of the receptionstaff spoke almost no english at all. We only met one girl who could speak english. The staff didn´t seem to be used of non brazilian guests.
The breakfast was really good, fresh fruit every day and everything you could ask for.
The poolarea was small but nice.
The location of Dan Inn is unfortunatelly not that good. It´s located in Guarapes, outside Recife. Sure it´s right on a beach. However this is not the main beach in Recife (Boa Viagem). You have to take a very very long walk to get to the main beach. The area around the hotel is very boring. There are one small restaurant, Senorita Garbo, 50 meters from the hotel but that´s it. You need to go by taxi everywhere due to the location.
To be honest, even the main beach in Boa Viagem/Recife is a bit strange. The beach is nice but you could walk for half an hour on the beachpromenade without seeing a single restaurant.
The hotel is quite nice but due to the location I would not recommend it.

I stayed here during World Cup, when it rained every day, so take my review with a grain of salt.
The hotel itself was a regular hotel. It was clean, had a pool, and was on the beach. Unfortunately, I was never on the beach.
The hotel staff were great. Very friendly and always willing to help. If you don't speak Portuguese, don't worry, because the staff were proficient in English.
The included breakfast was good.
The only negative thing I have to say about the hotel is that it was far away from the restaurants, bars, and nightlife.

The location of the hotel is right on a clean sandy beach.
1. The wifi was poor to fair.
2. The hotel seems to cater for mainly Brazilian guests, and therefore none of the staff spoke English or Spanish. This proved to be problematic,, particularly for an elderly lady from Argentina, who only spoke Spanish. She suffered a fall, dislocating her shoulder and cutting her knee. The hotel staff were unable to deal with the situation in a responsive way. The fact that the hotel did not have a first aid kit, to dress and clean her cut was disgraceful. Only the hotel manager could authorize the purchase of products to clean and dress the cut. Fortunately, one of my party was able to communicate in Portuguese and Spanish, and was able to assist the lady obtaining her medical insurance and accompanying her to hospital.
3. Breakfast was average, and the lack of a toaster was not good. Additionally, this is the first Brazilian hotel I have stayed in, where there was no member of the catering staff, producing one of the staple breakfast products - Tapioca.
4. A guest that had ordered room service, left the serving tray and partially eaten food outside their room and next to the lift. The tray remained there overnight and was still there at mid-day.

Sensational service. All staff are extremely polite and attentive, besides the hotel being welcoming. Although there is no beach to swim in front of the hotel, the location is great for exit to the beaches and nearby towns.

It is a dirty old hotel, located in a dangerous neighborhood. The beach in front is not suitable for bathing, nor swimming. Be carefull with sharks! Watch out for walks on the beach because it is dirty and you can get hurt from broken glass. It is near the airport and a taxi to the beach Boa Viagem where there are good restaurants is not very expensive. Breakfast is ok so as the little swimming pool. Don't expect too much.

I had low expectations going into my stay but the room at Hotel Dan was even worse. We didn't even take our shoes off or let anything touch the bare floor. The room was oppressively hot even with the a/c on all day. The shower floor left a lot to be desired and the toilet never worked properly. The room had a stench that we tried to remove but Febreeze can only do so much.
That being said, the breakfast was nice and the hotel staff did their best to answer our questions and help us out. I don't recommend anyone stay here without a major overhaul.

I rarely, rarely ever post really bad reviews. Feel free to go check my history. But this place is horrendous. We stayed here during the World Cup when there was nothing else open. I knew I was getting into something bad but couldn't have been prepared. First off, Recife is not a nice city at all any way and this area is no different. We walked into our room the first night and I couldn't stop laughing. $450 (US dollars) a night for a room that was as big as my bathroom at home, with a double bed and single bed crammed in. That left 6 inches in between the beds and 8 inches between the bed and AC unit on the wall. That just happened to be where I slept and the unit was at the height of my legs on the bed, which sucks to have air blowing full blast on you all night, even with a small blanket that is in the room. And the AC doesn't work half well enough to keep the humidity out of the room. It smelled like a muggy sauna in there. And the bathroom has no vent at all. No hot water one day. No tv one day. Woke up one morning and almost slipped on the 1/4 inch of water on the floor that had leaked in during the rain the night before. You couldn't walk on the tile for two steps without your feet turning black. Holes in the walls. Windows in the hall that wouldn't shut and the wind would slam them shut and sound like guns going off. Our AC unit also sputtered and sounded like it was going to blow up every 10 minutes. Can you tell I'm ranting right now? This was no fun and I'd highly recommend not going here. Only positive were two very nice people out of the 10 at the front desk.

It looks like it's been in business for a while, not exactly fancy, very basic. But it's clean, buffet breakfast, lunch and dinner are very generous and delicious. It has a heated pool and gym center also.

Location: right on the Boa Viagem beach.
Cleanliness: maybe 2/5. We used this hotel as an overnight stay to fly to Fernando de Noronha the next day, and it’s perfect for that. Don’t expect too much.
Facilities: there was a pool, didn’t use it.
Food: breakfast was pretty good, 4/5.
Bed: ok, 2/5.
Staff: good, 3/5.
Other: there is a Pão de Açúcar supermarket very close to the hotel (2 blocks) that can be useful to buy cereals bars and snacks to take if you're heading to Fernando de Noronha.

Nothing extraordinary or flamboyant. But sea view. Old facilities and all that comes with it. Was on business trip so I came late and stay away the whole day. If you like running don't miss the chance to run by the breach. Remember before 8.am.
