My wife and I had a perfect 4 day stay at Asalem in June. Rooms are large and very comfortable, the view is precious and service is extremely kind and efficient. It is possible to dive straight from water front and see sea life such as turtles or colored fishes, as well as spend time on stand-up paddle or simply swimming. The wooden deck is great for relaxing, tan and have some great caipirinhas. The location is very handy, as close as an 8 minute boat ride or 20 min trail walking to the center of Abraão village, although still far enough from any unwanted noise or crowd. It is definitely one of our favorite choices to stay in Ilha Grande paradise.
Just returned from a weekend stay at Asalem, but definitely could have stayed many days more. Lovely rooms with fantastic view and easy access to to the main town for dining and activities. Super helpful staff and fantastic breakfast!
Loved our room, gorgeous view of the entire bay, a porch, and great sunsets. The food here is fantastic, as are their 2 for 1 caipirinhas. Make sure to do a dinner with them at least one night - we did it twice and loved it. The staff is extremely friendly, accommodating, and helpful with planning activities. Would definitely stay here again!
I waited a while before writing this to be fair to the people running this place who are all very nice. Now, location is great but that's about it. This is really about the level of a rundown motel perched on a hillside so you need to be a goat to get to and from the room. I think for a couple of hundred dollars a night you could reasonably expect hot water on demand. Well, not so. My wife and I both got caught with a freezing mid-shower experience on 5 occasions and we were not the only ones. They hit things with hammers behind the chalet that suggests to me the plumbing is about as nackered as the rusty railings. They gave us a discount after we politely went through the issues on checkout, but this is really over hyped as a location. By the way, think twice before using their car service from Rio. Hair raising plus the driver didn't speak a word of English.…
We enjoyed our stay at Asalem despite the bad weather. Staff were super friendly and made us feel very welcome! It is extremely over priced compared to other accommodations in the area. It feels like a hostel and definitely not a 4 or 5 star hotel! WiFi only worked in the breakfast area and the shower in our room was very dirty (see picture). If it would have been reasonably priced I would have scored it higher.
