Me (italian/brazilian) and my friend Isabel (portoguese) stayed at the Um Hostel just for one night last April.
The Location is very nice, surrounded by green vegetation, and calm atmosphere. In fact, from the bathroom you can enjoy a nice view while brushing your theet.
Rooms are small but quite comfortable. The bed a little tough.
The breakfast is good enough and personnel is polite and friendly.

I stayed at Um Hostel last month and I liked it a lot. The hostel is very well located in PetrĂ³polis downtown, in front of the Bohemia Brewery, next to the Imperial Museum, Crystal Palace and there are also good pubs nearby. The structure of the place is very new and quite modern. The decoration is amazing and so are the game room, the external area and bedrooms. I chose a shared bedroom they are cosy and comfortable besides spacious and well-equipped. The staff of the hostel are friendly and cool. The prices are very good, considering how good the place is. I really enjoyed my stay at Um Hostel and I hope to come back soon.

It's quite ironic that Um Hostel is located in such a small city like PetrĂ³polis (although quite touristic, it's not a massive point of interested worldwide). The hostel is much better than many other that I've been around the world, in places like Barcelona or London.
The common areas are very comfortable with many sofas and chairs, the decoration is awesome and really well designed. There is a pool table and even a SNES! TV with the best channels as well. It's so cool that we feel like staying there rather than going out.
The kitchen is really great with everything you need, the rooms are cool, spacious and very comfortable. Bathrooms are perfectly clean.
The staff is also very friendly and polite, you get a cool kit with everything you need and it's right at the city centre and just across the street from the Bohemia beer factory and bar.

Um Hostel is perfect. It could not be better located. Very good breakfast, very comfortable rooms, super vibe ba ... bars, supermarket, banks everything few steps from the hostel. One of the best hostels i visited in Brazil.

UM Hostel is a cool and affordable place to stay in Petropolis. The location cannot be better with Bohemia brewery on the other side of the river, Palacio de Cristal around the block and most of the city highlights on walking distance. The room was clean, the bed huge and the place is nice and cozy. The staff was nice and interested on help, but you may want to make a little bit of a better job on learning interesting tips about the city. To create a simple but informational manual for them to work as good concierges can give you that extra star. Breakfast was a little bit of "meh" because there was a lack of different fruit options (only papaya), sugarless yogurt and low fat milk. You cannot call yourself a contemporary hostel design if you don't have in mind little details like low fat milk, cheap good bread, more fruit options and those details for people who eat as different as the hotel wants to be. ;)
