I travelled with my young daughter for an adventure weekend in the mountains and it was more than this. With the warm reception, intelligent conversations and attention received from the owner Jean we felt really welcomed. The house and grounds are a part of the colonial past with a great modern swimming pool, so it catered well for me and...

Querido André, Above all, thank you for sellecting our property. As you know, I belong from the 4th generation of the Landlords of Samambaia Estate, "The Fern Hill Domaine" na historical place. It was a real pleasure having you and your "incredible" and "clever" little daughter. We hope to have you back with your wife and new baby girl. We...

Samambaia is now 293 years old but there is an interesting mix of solid Portuguese construction of that era mixed with the furniture and decoration from the 1940´s. Another plus is for the small private chapel in rococó style built inside the main building. Something unique, and available for any guest to look inside. The are not a HI hostel...

I can only thank you for your evaluation. Our Fazenda and now Youth Hostel Center, is what was left by the Portuguese Kingdom, rich and beautiful, reflecting times when Brazil was "glamourous". The "Big House" is an old lady as you said, with all it's wrinkles, since i'ts a classified historical monument. Nevertheless, we are a 5 Star Hostel with...

I stayed here in August this year. The building, a little outside of Petropolis (and a small challenge to get to via public transport), is an absolute delight - historical, with Burle Marx gardens, a sense of times past, and a wonderful, caring owner in an ecological environment. I was there in low season, so there were not many guests,...

After travelling for more than 6 months, we are finally home. This is the moment that you look back at the places we visited. One of the great places in Brazil was the visiting @ Samambaia hostel. A beautiful historic building with a beautiful garden. It was for us a little paradise in Brazil. There was a very kind owner,...

We have just spent a night at this hostel and loved it. It sits in huge grounds that are fu of interesting plants and animals. The house is stunning-plenty of space and very comfortable. Best breakfast in a hostal ive ever had! It should be recommended in all the guide books.

My spouse and I just finished a 7-night stay at Samambaia, and I can honestly say it was a stay that I will never forget. We had originally booked two nights, but we kept extending our stay because we didn't want to leave! The owner of the Hostel, Jean, arranged to pick us up at the bus station near by,...

We greatly enjoyed the all experience, it was not just a place to stay but it will be a long lasting memory. We enjoyed the animals around and the educational purpose of the place. The owner is the most gracious person. We forgot our passports in the room and he went out of his way to return it to us...

I stayed at Samambaia with my wife for just a day. We immediately realized this is not a conventional hostel. It is a 250+ year old portuguese style facility built with massive logs located in a green preservation area (www.isca.org.br), with many amenities that makes your day relaxing and full of diversity. You are touched by Nature with green and...
