The decision to stay there was not an easy one. I was panicky afraid of bed bags, which definitely are there. Fortunately there is a "new" girl's room, which was way better then the big dorm. Bed bags got to my skin, but after changing the bed it was fine. Other girls in the room didn't have this problem, so...

If you are not a pirate, please stay OUT of this place. Piratas is not a hostel, it's an experience. Less pros than cons, but the cons are waaay heavier, they are not contemplated in this charts. Atmosphere: excellent, Connected to the real life of Rio: excellent, Personal experience: excellent. However, the first day may be a bit rough for...

If your looking for an awesome atmosphere and great people from all over the place, id recommend this place. The owners of this hostel go that extra mile to organise events for us like the beach hash which took place while we were there. The environment is very lively and everybody gets on. If you want to party and and...

My group of 3 booked this hostel due to its location for New Years and reasonable price considering the time of year. However, We wish we had paid for a different hostel a block or two back. The description of the hostel is a complete misrepresentation, "24 hr hot showers" - a complete joke, it was freezing cold water and...

I'm not gonna lie, this place is not clean. Do not go here if you are squeamish. However, it is in an incredible location and it is dirt cheap. Also, there's a great atmosphere here and we met some great people. If you've got a strong stomach and are a proper earthy traveller this is a great low cost option...

I stayed in Piratas an overall of 30 days maybe this summer and it was the best time I had. The location is incredible the prices are low and the people (especially the people) are amazing; friendly, outgoing and very helpful. Some people complained about the state of a few things but isn't that what backpacking is all about? I...

Went here for carnival and booked a cheap dorm room in advance, just like lots of other reviews. Unfortunately, we didn't have the foresight not to just leave then and there. The hostel was packed to the brim with people sleeping - even people sleeping on wet, dingy blow up mattresses underneath someone sleeping in a hammock. The facilities in...

This is the dirtiest and smelliest hostel I have ever stayed in. When you consider that you could catch Aids off the walls in some of the places I fequented whilst in Indonesia this is saying something. The kitchen and toilets are downright minging and I was bitten multiple times by God only knows what during the night. On the...
