Amazing view over the city. Helpful and friendly staff. Good simple breakfast with fresh fruits. Clean, simple, nice coloured rooms with a great balcony with a hammock. I liked it very much to walk through the favela getting impressions of how people live there. I thereby never felt in danger. Access to the pousada takes a little bit of effort,...

We stayed for one week and we really enjoyed our stay. We were picked up at the airport and Matti was already waiting for us at the entrance to Favela. We felt safe at all times and we never had a problem with anyone! The rooms have an amazing view to Sugar Loaf and harbour. Breakfast was always fresh and...

Felt safe and well looked after, interesting, close to everything I needed and wanted to see. Walked and walked the city and went to Ilha grande before returning to Rio. Checkout hamburgers and haircuts, just down to left. ABCD or little shop for food to right

Me and my brother stayed here for a week during the Olympics. Staff was friendly, surroundings were save. Less good: We were not picked up from the airport as promised and breakfast was no more but ok.

Technical standard is not the predominant side to this very special and heartwarming B&B high up in one of Rios favelas, but our stay was fantastic due to the people running it, the unbelievable view over Rio, the people of the favela and the daily excercise coming and going from the pousada.

Staying in Santa Teresa

Neighbourhood Profile
Santa Teresa
Santa Teresa is a bohemian enclave hosting many local artists’ studios. The narrow, winding streets of this neighbourhood were revitalised years ago, and visitors can now stroll through this area to view magnificent mansions dating back to the late 19th and early 20th century. A highlight not miss: Museu Chacará do Céu, a former mansion turned museum which houses works by prominent Brazilian modern artists.

Pousada Favelinha is the first hostel ever to have opened in a Favela in Brazil. It has amazing views over the bay of Rio and the sugar loaf mountain, probably not comparable with any outher hotel in Rio de Janeiro. There is no car traffic, it's very quiet, yet very central. Direct access to Santa Teresa, Lapa, and Largo do Machado subway station. 20 Minutes to the beach. 30% Of Cariocas live in a favela, this is the real vibe of Rio de Janeiro and it's safe! ... more   less
