We had the hotel to organise a taxi to pick us up, it might be more expensive but well worth it as some drivers don't know the location very well. Rio isn't somewhere you want to get lost in. Having said that Santa Teresa isn't the same as any other area. It is magical. The bars and resterants are brilliant... More

This is a marvellous place to stay. I can of course, repeat all that's already been said about it: Amazing views, wonderful staff, delicious caipirinhas, fabulous jacuzzi and pool, lovely amenities. But I've not found much mention of the building itself. It calls itself a guest house but has the romantic grandeur and design of a colonial mansion. This imaginative... More

The view is great. The spot is nice. The building is kind of old. But not a charming old, it is old needing some recovery. But if you get a discount and you are with a car (rented, yours or borrowed) it's a place to consider. The breakfast was nothing but regular.

We stayed here for the 3 first nights of our trip. Antonella and Paulo are really welcoming people. The rooms are comfortable and clean. All the people working here are nice even if they don't speak English except Antonella (English) and Paulo (French and English). They will solution all your turistics issues and give you some tips about what to... More

The good.- The view is great and there is plenty of peace and quiet. This place is a mile or two out of the (charming) neighborhood known as Santos Teresa. The bad. - It is isolated. Do not think you can stroll off for a bite to eat, or that a taxi will come out and find you. The ugly.-... More

Note that most of the great reviews for this place are from 2013 or prior. Maybe the place was different back then. So, I waited a good 9 months before posting this review, to see if I would feel less strongly about our horrible stay at this establishment. I do not. I have only ONE good thing to say about... This hotel is very well run and in a beautiful neighborhood of Rio. Some cab drivers were reluctant to drop us off so bring a map and the address. Antonella is very welcoming. The rooms could use a new coat of paint but overall it's a great spot.

We spent three nights here and had the place more or less to ourselves. Clean room, good and quiet air conditioning and cozy atmosphere. Antonella was very nice and helpful, speaks good english and makes a mean caipirinha. The place is a bit out of the way but if you want to escape the hustle and noise of the inner... More

A beautiful B&B which I would name one of the city's best viewpoints. The Sugar Loaf to your left, Corcovado to your right – isn't it the best way to start your Rio adventures?! The hotel itself is very pleasant – quite and homy atmosphere, cosy shared area and simple clean rooms. Breakfast was also quite good, freshly pressed juice... More

Staying in Santa Teresa

Neighbourhood Profile
Santa Teresa
Santa Teresa is a bohemian enclave hosting many local artists’ studios. The narrow, winding streets of this neighbourhood were revitalised years ago, and visitors can now stroll through this area to view magnificent mansions dating back to the late 19th and early 20th century. A highlight not miss: Museu Chacará do Céu, a former mansion turned museum which houses works by prominent Brazilian modern artists.
