We wanted to stay outside of the city, remote and far from the noise from carneval, but by day we got into the city and had a blast. They organized us a private transportation that brought us wherever we wanted to go, and the driver Jose who joined us for 4 days knew where to

As with others, they just emailed out of the blue to cancel the reservation due to "natural disaster"... Funny how no other hotel in Rio seems to be suffering from a natural disaster. They're just using that phrase to avoid any compensation. Shocking service from Marriott group.

Dear Expedition566962, We would like to apologize but we really suffered with this natural disaster. It was beyond our forces to move on at that time. We understand your frustration. The entire city went from a crisis to attention stage. We had severe damage in the hotel from a landslide in the hotel’s road that caused death of people. This happened In the night of February 06th. This natural disaster I mentioned resulted in flooding and landslides that severely impacted our hotel and isolated the entire community of the hotel. It was considered one of the heaviest rains in decades and killed 6 people, including 2 passengers in one of the buses that were impacted with the landslides very close to our hotel, for this reason the main avenue or main road was closed for almost 12 days. Fortunately the rest of the hotels along the beach were not impacted like ours. So, we are trying to move on with the recovering of damages caused by the storm. We ran out of energy for two days and the instability remained for a few more. Since we have managed to reestablish our system, we have begun to communicate with our guests. Trying to reallocate them as best as possible, as the hotel is closed right now. I remain at your disposal for any clarifications you may have about what has occurred. My best regards, Yara Suzart yara.suzart@marriott.com Guest Relations

Check in was prompt. Room was clean and had the A/C already set. Bathroom was spotless. This particular room had no plugs for US style electronics cords so ask for an adaptor or bring one of your own. Taking an Uber to the downtown are town was very, very inexpensive. Less

They just had some flooding a couple of weeks ago and the pool area was a huge mess. You might want to check with the hotel to see if it's all cleaned up. Uber to Copacabana and Impanema is very inexpensive. The immediate area around the hotel has nothing to offer really..

I few years ago there were a lot of people selling tickets outside the sambadromo when I went there. For a very cheap price. But off course that is no guarantee. It all depends which day you wanna go. Friday and saturday are usually easier to get tickets. Sunday is the biggest parade with the most famous samba schools.

Is there any nightly entertainment at the hotel?
We did not see any nightly entertainment, but we went out. I have heard that there is entertainment at the pool, but I am not sure if it is there every night. Your best bet is going to be to check with the concierge before booking.

The breakfast was included for us because we stayed on the Club Level upper floors and paid for the upgrade. They have two wonderful buffet style restaurants with cook to order omelets and eggs. One is on the ground floor and the other on the top floor. What a view from there. They also include and evening reception of snack foods and drinks nightly. The Club Level rooms, breakfast, and reception are worth the extra $20.00 U.S. nightly.
