This hotel has a great location. Only 2 short blocks to Ipanema beach, across the street from a grocery store, pretty close to decent restaurants. The entire hotel staff is super friendly and helpful. Special kudos to Antonio Pimentel at the front desk, spoke great English and answered my many first time tourist questions with patience. The price of the...

After reading a lot of positive reviews on TripAdvisor we booked Mar Ipanema Hotel. Check in was positive and they gave us a lock for the safe. Staff helped us with our suitcases. The room was small, clean, adequate, but tired. The beds were small and hard. The front desk had no recommendations for a good restaurant within walking distance....and...

My husband and I stayed at the Mar Ipanema Hotel for three nights during our visit to Rio. When we checked in, the front desk staff were polite but not extraordinarily friendly. As expected, the room was cozy, simple, and clean. Our room on the 4th floor looked out onto the corner of Rua Visconde de Piraja and Rua Anibal...

Front desk staff was exceptional. Extremely helpful; no hassles with booking. Was able to check in for five days at 10am; my departing flight was 6pm and they had a private car available ($30) and allowed me to stay in the room until I left. On busy shopping street so there are restaurants, bakery, etc. Was off to side on...

Visited Mar Ipanema the 2nd week of March for 4 nights. Stayed in a room 1 step above standard. The room looked like a college dorm room: decent size with not much character. Stayed on the 5th floor facing the back of the hotel with a not-so-great view of other buildings. The standard bed was queen size and had a...

Rooms are quite small and look used but the location was allright.Despite all this,Rio De Janeiro has not lost its reputation of theft within hotelrooms.Money was lost and to leave no traces the thief took only a part within a few days.BEWARE! A locker safe was not offered a time of check in and the management did not take the...

Great place to stay -- I definitely recommend it to anyone who is willing to have the best of times in Rio. I've stayed in a beachfront hotel once, and neither their service or their ammenities are nearly as good as the ones at Mar Ipanema. Their staff is extremely friendly and helpful... plus room service is very good, as...

I've just come back from my trip to Brazil, and stayed at the Mar Ipanema Hotel for 2 days. It is very well located, just two blocks away from the Ipanema beach, and the hotel even provides you with chairs and umbrellas (free of charge) to take to the beach. One of the things I liked the most about this...

We stayed here for the Carnival. Paid through our noses for it but every place in town hikes up their prices by up to 3 times at this time anyway. The best thing about the hotel was the location. Ideally situated for Ipenema beach and a decent walk away from Copacabana beach. The general area itself was also relatively safe...

I decided to stay here (instead of Arpoador Inn horrible service hotel...) because it was sold out, but this hotel was Amazing! It was important to me to choose a great hotel because I decided to celebrate New Year's Eve in Rio de Janeiro, The most wonderful experience in my life! The staff here are professional and absolutely wonderful. I...

Staying in Ipanema

Neighbourhood Profile
Ipanema is considered Rio's crown jewel. It offers the best view of the sunset from Arpoador and is inspiration for the legendary song, “The Girl from Ipanema.” Ipanema is an upscale area, home to many high-end restaurants and luxury shops, many of which can be found on the charming Garcia d'Ávila Avenue. The neighbourhood is very rich culturally, housing many art galleries that show contemporary art. There is also a great variety of nightlife in the neighbourhood, which buzzes with many options for every taste.
