Being frequently in Rio and knowing most possible stays in that marvolous city I can only highly recommend Mama Ruisa. Located in beautiful Santa Teresa it offers a lot of charme, big rooms, swimming pool and an unbeatable service. If you have any queries, Jean Michel and his team are very willing to help you. Even the sofisticated price and...

After being on the road for over three months I decided to treat myself of some real luxury for the last three nights. I ended up staying in Mama Ruisa, and didm't want to leave. The pool, the room, the wonderful, wonderful staff, the a-ma-zing rooms, the breakfast on your private balcony with a beautiful view on the Sugerloaf mountain....

We are absolutely delighted we chose to stay here for 6 days in Rio. This small hotel is well appointed, very imaginatively furnished and decorated, with stunning views across the bay of Rio. In a interesting, picturesque and bohemian part of town, it is well served by local bars and restaurants and also well located for an easy taxi drive...

Mama Ruisa hits all the superlatives. The house is a beautiful historical mansion, former home of Rio's mayor, exquisitely restored and beautifully furnished with great taste. It is set in a beautiful garden with a pleasant swimming pool. We had the Pop room on the ground floor , opening directly onto the garden, albeit with a private veranda on which...

The hotel is very beautiful, the room was spacious and nicely furnished with a great view over Rio. The hotel has nice pool in a lovely garden. The breakfast was served for us at the beautiful terrace and was excellent (and much more than we could eat). We experienced a great attention from Jean Michel and the staff. We have...

We stayed here for 3 days and it was the perfect stay. Amazing views, perfect breakfast serve right at our terrace. The service was personalized and they always took care of us. The neighborhood was amazing and we felt it was safe. A bit tricky to drive up there, but again we were not doing the driving. The suite was...

The decor was beautiful. The room very stylish with all mod cons. Bed comfy. Great setting in centre of Santa teresa. The breakfast was really nice and had everything I would have expected. It was quiet and very upmarket. Only downside is the staff are not very engaging. Is it too much to smile and say hi MrXX we have...

We spent five nights here. We couldn't have asked more. The decoration of the rooms was original and charismatic, and the staff were very friendly and attentive. Jean-Michel is a fine and generous host, e.g. on our final day we were allowed to use a room for free to shower and change before our flight. An excellent hotel.

Staying in Santa Teresa

Neighbourhood Profile
Santa Teresa
Santa Teresa is a bohemian enclave hosting many local artists’ studios. The narrow, winding streets of this neighbourhood were revitalised years ago, and visitors can now stroll through this area to view magnificent mansions dating back to the late 19th and early 20th century. A highlight not miss: Museu Chacará do Céu, a former mansion turned museum which houses works by prominent Brazilian modern artists.
