This place is a voyarists paradise; the views from the terraced breakfast area are breathtaking and cannot be conveyed merely by text. The staff and owners greeted us personally and introduced us to our room laiden with pretty effects that made the room feel very personal to us including a folder with a wealth of local and surrounding information to... Here are my thoughts about Casa 579. Location: The guesthouse is located in an area of Santa Teresa where there are few restaurants or bars in the immediate area. The one exception is an excellent and inexpensive cantina less than a block away. This means that a night out generally requires taking a cab, bus or combi. These come frequently,... More

I spent in Casa 579 four nights in November. That's for sure too short to enjoy this special place. I highly recommend it from many reasons. Firstly, the rooms are clean, cosy and really cute. Secondly, the delicious breakfast I miss a lot. Moreover, the girls from the reception are just fantastic. Maybe the location is not so good for... More

My stay at Casa 579, then end of Novemeber 2009, was beyond perfect and will remain fresh in my heart for a long time . From the beginning of my making arrangements from the states to during my 4 days of staying there, Teresa and her staff made my stay rich with memorable cultural experiences. My top priorities for lodging... More

We enjoyed our stay at Casa 579. The staff was extremely helpful in helping us get organized and arrange a city tour. They made many calls on our behalf and really went the extra mile to get us sorted out. They were very personable and answered our many, many questions about life in Rio. We were not disappointed. There were... More

Sorry Teresa, but you better upgrade/renovate your B&B. I got the best room of the house and it had NO warm water to bath my 02 year old!!! They let me use the other bathroom BUT the tub was sooo filthy that my wife had to wash the tub first. The windows does NOT shut close. There are no safe... More

We would like to respond to this review as it is by far the most disappointing review we have had here on Tripadvisor. In fact of the 28 reviews we have here, 23 rate us as very good or excellent of which we are very proud so it is very disappointing to receive reviews like these. We would like to... More

I cannot praise Casa 579 enough! Excellent B&B in Santa Teresa, Rio de Janeiro. I felt completely at home from the moment I walked in the door. Teresa and her staff operate a wonderful property. You cannot find a better value for your money . . . nice rooms with spectacular views, terrific breakfasts, friendly staff, and quaint location. Don't... More

I was only suppose to stay in Rio for a week, but I ended-up staying in Casa 579 for over a month. I traveled throughout Central and South America for over six months, and Casa 579 was def. my favorite spot to stay. If you want to see the "REAL" Rio then stay at Casa 579. I was volunteering at... For Brazilian standards, the place is quite pricey -- around $90. Not the most glamorous location in Rio, and the nearest commercial plaza is a good half-hour walk. We were unlucky that our suite did not have hot water running, but apparently that was an unfortunate coincidence. Breakfast was all right, but probably because we were spoiled by better quality... As always we thank our customers for their reviews, good or bad. However when the review comes in not as good as we hoped, we are of course disappointed and look to see where we went wrong and how we can fix it for the next time which I am proud to say we are good at as our many... More

Staying in Santa Teresa

Neighbourhood Profile
Santa Teresa
Santa Teresa is a bohemian enclave hosting many local artists’ studios. The narrow, winding streets of this neighbourhood were revitalised years ago, and visitors can now stroll through this area to view magnificent mansions dating back to the late 19th and early 20th century. A highlight not miss: Museu Chacará do Céu, a former mansion turned museum which houses works by prominent Brazilian modern artists.
