My husband and I spent three nights here following a cruise. We found it a perfect base from which to see the major sights of the city. The subway station is a brief walk away, and buses and taxis are also readily available. The English-speaking staff could not have been friendlier or more helpful. Although the location is not one...

March 1-2, 2011 We wanted a Rio hotel close to shopping and restaurants, yet priced reasonably. This hotel satisfied all our requirements. It is conveniently located, well-run, clean, friendly, and has a very nice breakfast. We wanted to be near the Los Arcos and Santa Teresa areas which have excellent restaurants. We particularly enjoyed the rustic Nova Capela. Particularly noteworthy...

Nice hotel, well located (in the downtown area, close to the Metro) with friendly, efficient staff. This 3 star property offers great value for the cost conscious traveler. I have stayed at much more expensive hotels, but rarely one which made me feel quite so at home. I went for New Year's, and would happily return for Carnival or indeed...

Located in the dreary drab Cinelândia district far removed from the famed Copacabana, Ipanema, Barra da Tijuca districts, you're certainly not going to perched in some trendsetting sun drenched beach paradise. What you do get is a solid, business-like hotel that has all the amenities, service, and quality that you would come to expect from an above average business hotel...

I stayed at the Windsor Asturias for two nights and have nothing but good to say about the hotel except for the internet speed, which can only be described as glacial (far slower than dial-up). That issue was my main (and probably only) reason for rating it four stars instead of five. Incidentally, the hotel charges R$0.16/minute or R$25.00/ 24...

Wev have stayed there this carnaval (2010). It was unbelievable! What an experience! Great staff, perfect location (right next to party-place Lapa), great service, royal breakfast (although you had to wake up before 11 to eat), great room, amazin view on the rooftop and a goodworking airconditioning. I felt very safe at this hotel. There is always security (in the...

Staying in Centro

Neighbourhood Profile
Centro
Downtown Rio is the place where this city was born. With modern skyscrapers sharing space with historical buildings and landmarks, this neighbourhood is living proof that the old and the new can live together harmoniously. As you would expect, downtown is where all major companies house their offices. However, the region isn’t restricted to businesses. Gems such like the “Paço Imperial,” which is a cultural centre that used to serve as a residence for governors of Brazil, can be found here. Pedra do Sal, a Monday night street party, is also in this neighbourhood. This landmark is the birthplace of samba and is famous for its “roda de sambas” (“dance circles”). Stop in for one and get closer to discovering where Brazilian happiness comes from.

“Top floors should be less noisy (we stayed in the 20th floor), although the windows provide good insulation. Our room was very quiet. A couple of rooms in each floor are smaller than the others - room numbers ending 3 and 4, if I am not mistaken.”
