We just came back from an amazing stay at Sombra e Agua Fresca. This hotel is easily the best one in Pipa. Their service is impeccable, all the employees are super friendly. We stayed in the Suite 00, their best room. This room is amazing, spacious, the bed is comfy, bathroom with sauna, a pool and jacuzzi with great views (see the photos). The food is also superb. The breakfast is one of the best we ever had, and their lunch and dinner dishes are also top level, matching or better than the other restaurants in the city. Also the spa offers good massages and other therapies. We enjoyed our stay since the first minute there.

This is a very pleasant, exclusive and expensive hotel. The staff kindness is great and confort and architecture are mesmerizing .The gardening, the swimming pools. Breakfast buffet goes from non gluten to all you can eat. The restaurant is also good, but prices are higher than in similar ones, I did not like only the musical selection of the happy hour by the pool: sinthetic electronic music. breaking the Bali and tropical quietness,

It is a really great hotel with a stunning view and a amazing pool area. I stood at room with a jacuzzi and I really recommend it for couples. The beach called praia do amor is very close to the hotel and its not crowd. The staff is very very friendly. A curiosity: Gisele Bundchen and Leonardo DiCaprio stood at this hotel.

We have booked this place for 6 nights, at 400 EUR per night for the room of the 2nd highest level. On arrival we got upgraded to the highest level room as the rest of the rooms was full. First impression: amazing. Beautiful views from the deck in front of the room, small private pool, spacious, jacuzzi, sauna... And then you start looking better, and you see the place is falling apart: pool tiles missing, inside of the closet falling apart to the extent that it's windy, the wind coming from the outside and making noise the whole night (which also means that animals of all sorts can come in without a problem). You can see an autograph of Gisele Bunchen in the room, she was apparently there with Leo di Caprio in the early years of the hotel. I can imagine they liked it back then, but they'd run screaming if they saw it now. Do something about the maintenance, guys! Really! We ate our first dinner at the restaurant at the pool, and it was one of our most mediocre meals in Brazil. So we were forced to eat out the rest of the days. Luckily, there are plenty good options in Pipa. For the rest, the communal areas are pretty, the maintenance is also there behind but a bit less than in the room. The lounge above the restaurant is beautiful. The cocktails are also lovely. The staff is super friendly. They came to remove the cockroaches from our room every time we called (3 times). And yes, we were happy to have our own mosquito net as we would have not slept a minute there otherwise considering we're both scared of roaches. Out of 6 days we were there, the internet didn't work 5 days. We complained, and got a voucher for a free dinner at their restaurant. Considering the experience from the first night, we asked if possible to wave the bill of the first evening. They would have talked to the owner, and in the end this was not possible. So we got no compensation for no internet, while this was a BIG problem for us, both not being able to work. They said our compensation was an extra hour (yes, a full hour) that we could stay longer in our room on our day of check-out. Terrible. Don;t get me wrong, the staff was for the rest really amazing. Very helpful. My man got bitten by a monkey, and they did all in their power to arrange a ride, direct us where to go get the shots, etc. Also they arranged us a great day tour, and always picked up the phone with a smile. They also arranged soy mil for us at breakfast as we're both lactose intolerant. So it's not all that dark, but I would really not recommend this place to anyone as it's seriously overpriced for what it is. We also had a look at the Resort part, and we were VERY glad we didn't stay there. It's an overpriced Dysneyland-looking place where you have no privacy, all the houses are stuffed together. Glad we didn't book that one! In that sense we at least made the right choice to book our room at the hotel part. We had privacy at least, which is the least once expects for that sort of money. The room was pretty for the rest, spacious, the bed was huge and good. The bathroom simplicity doesn't match the level this place is supposed to be. All in all, some maintenance is really overdue.

This place looks so much better on the pictures than how it really is...we were a bit disappointed when we arrived at the hotel. Below are my impressions:

(a) location: great location. Probably the best thing about this place, as it is just above the Praia do Amor and within walking distance from downtown Pipa (close enough to walk there, but far enough to avoid the noise from the parties going on at night);

(b) layout of the hotel: the hotel is divided in two areas: the hotel, which is on one side of the road going to the Praia do Amor, and the resort, which is on the other side of the road. The resort is formed by small villas and bungalows, whilst the "hotel" is formed by small cottages in which two or three rooms are (these rooms are set on a really steep hill, so get prepared to do a lot of exercise!);

(c) rooms: we stayted at the "hotel". Here the rooms are dated, and need urgent refurbishment. I had not seen an "old fashioned" TV (no LCD) since many, many years!! It was sort of a "vintage" kind of room (as we had stepped back in time!). The bathroom felt also very old, and not up to the standards of this sort of hotel. In addition, a big problem we had was that the guests of the two neighbouring rooms had to cross our terrace to get into their rooms...zero privacy!!!! We had to have the curtains shut all the time! So...although the rooms have nice views, we could not enjoy them!;

(d) staff: some of the front desk staff were friendly...some others were not. The staff at the restaurant and pool areas was just ok;

(e) pool and common areas: the water at the pools was very cloudy all the time we were there (please...do some more cleaning!!!)...so it was not very inviting! The terraces around the pools also need urgent refurbishment...the paint was peeling off in many places, and, again, it felt as if no one had done any repair works in years! A nice area, however, is at the second floor of the restaurant, where there is a lounge area with books, high ceilings, a big TV (an LCD one) and great views on the ocean;

(f) breakfast: was plentiful and with a big variety. A positive surprise, taking into account the facilities at the hotel; and

(g) spa: at the time we were there, the spa was still under construction.

Conclusion: location is superb, but, for the rest, this place is not worth it the money they are asking for...therefore, if you find a really, really good deal, take it...otherwise, try to find some other place.

Hotel seems to be nice, but the spa stays 300 mts away, huge rooms without windows nor furniture, climb morro for breakfast in the hotel, dark and unclean street, far from the beach. Dont ever go to the Spa!

I've never written a review for anything in my life. Not a book. Not a movie. Not a hotel.

So, this is the first and for good reason. Sombra e Agua Fresca is the finest hotel in Pipa and likely one of the finest hotels in NE Brazil.

The hotel is located about an 8 to 10 minute walk off of the main drag in Pipa (not a bad thing during the weekend). There is a bit of a steep incline leading up to the hotel, and some of the walkways in the hotel grounds are steep. This shouldn't present a problem for anyone who is capable of walking up a flight of stairs, and it wasn't an inconvenience to us. After all, you don't get the best views in Pipa by walking DOWNhill.

Service, especially at the restaurant and bars, is fantastic. The food is good, although better can be had for similar prices at some of Pipa's restaurants. The drinks are great and shouldn't be missed (Passion Fruit-Lime-Pineapple-Kiwi Caipivodikas!). I didn't test anyone's English (we spoke only Portuguese).

The hotel grounds are spacious, beautiful and impeccably kept. The total capacity for the hotel is quite low, so there's no crowding even at peak times. The views from the restaurant and decks are panoramic, accommodating excellent views of both the sunrise and the sunset. All areas of the hotel are decorated with a number of pieces from SE Asia and Brazil. It's an unexpected hybrid, but it works wonderfully.

We opted for the second most inexpensive class of room and, although it was basic, it was extremely comfortable. At any rate, the hotel grounds are too beautiful to spend much time in the rooms.

I'm looking at bringing my family back next time, including my mother who uses a wheelchair. Despite the steep inclines, there are almost no stairs at the hotel which makes it quite accessible for people with disabilities.

Generally, I'm disappointed with accommodations in Brazil. You pay a lot and you get little in return. Maybe I'm just spoiled by 5-star hotels in Asia. At any rate, Sombra e Agua Fresca is a very bright spot in an otherwise dim market for upscale accommodations in NE Brazil. We'll be back.

I have traveled over 83 countries and spend 100+ nights per year on the road. I know hotels. Here's the rundown:

The good: INCREDIBLE grounds, fascinating variety of swimming pools, really great food, best EVER (no exaggeration!) breakfast spread (Grand Hyatt Singapore comes 2nd), good location. Staff (particularly the bar / restaurant staff) are sincere and truly nice folks who enjoy their jobs.

The not so good: Staff are lacking in training. At this price point (~US$400/night +), I would expect little things to be done right - 3 towels for three people (not two, or 1), minimal water to be left behind as 'courtesy', and maintenance of rooms to be up to scratch.

The bad: Some rooms are approaching 25+ years old since they were last updated. Gisele Bundchen slept on my bed in 2004!!! It's clear from my 10 days spent on the property(ies) that they place an incredible amount of attention on the beautifully manicured landscaping and well cared for pool (too much chlorine at times, by the way). However, little things such as reliable A/C, taps that don't fall off, doors that lock properly, and wardrobe inner walls that are actually attached are a must! The property's obvious focus on external groundskeeping over their rooms is a stark contrast. Lastly, the 'gym' at the Resort property is DISGUSTING and falling apart. Come on guys, either have a proper gym or get rid of it. The current gym is EMBARRASSING!!!

Would I come back again?

YES - Like the very fun / nice group of German / Dutch / Portuguese / Italian families that come back to this hotel year after year, despite the myriad 'small' issues that would drive anyone prone to 'first world problems' nuts, Pipa is an amazing and geographically / naturally blessed, the food is amazing (unless you're a vegan / vegetarian - then consider not coming at all!), and the hotel properties TRULY enable you to relax and 'disconnect' from the trials and tribulations of 'back home'. Furthermore, upon checking out, I approached the General Manager with some feedback in line with the above, and he mentioned that a 'containing full of goods from Bali' was en route to Pipa in order to update the last remaining 'old rooms' in the room. I look forward to re-visiting once the rooms have been finally updated (April 2020 estimate). However, I do hope Fernando, the GM can do a better job as it pertains to delivering true five star service / treatment at the price point being charged at this hotel. Lastly, it's unclear if they plan on adding additional 'family services' to draw more family with younger kids - a small kids play center / babysitting services would make a MASSIVE positive difference.

Spent a week at Sambra e Agua Fresca. Absolutely fabulous. Amazing setting with lush landscaped gardens around 2 beautiful pools and panoramic views of the ocean, the sunset, the city. Staff is helpful and friendly and speak Portuguese, English, Spanish and a few more. Great bonus to be able to use the Hotel, Spa and Resort facilities with just the wrist band so no need to carry cash. Five minutes to a the spectacular Praia do Amor and 5 minutes to the Main Street of Pipa for restaurants, music and shopping. We will return!

Pode sim mas eles cobram taxa de rolha para vinho e espumante que na última que estive lá era 50 reais. No caso de Gin não tenho certeza se é o mesmo valor mas liga para o hotel que informam.
