While the neighborhood might not be the best part of the hotel (not by a long shot), Cinelândia hotel itself is very good, with helpful, accommodating staff, clean dependencies and rooms, and a hearty, satisfying breakfast. Plus, being located only a couple blocks away from the Republica metro station, I think it's more than worth it.
This hotel is in a seedy part of the city but if you get a taxi directly there and walk inside there is no problem whatsoever. The hotel is a basic style hotel but the rooms are clean and the bed was comfortable. I recall that there was quite a bit of noise at night. Apparently there is a disco across the road. The breakfast was also quite good. If you don't mind staying downtown then it is a very acceptable choice. But you must try the acai milkshake from the juice bar next door. I was actually quite sick during my stay due to a bout of dehydration and after throwing up all day I was given an acai drink from next door. Within ten minutes I had completely recovered. I wish I'd had it at the beginning of the day instead of at the end!
Mr. MATHEO ,The Receptionist , English speaking gentleman very professional & a very good advisor . We stayed there 29 May to 31 May & then 5 June to 11 June. Our stay was excellent . Though Sao Paulo is not a tourist friendly city . Lot of tourist crime is there . One should be very care full in the streets & shoping areas.
I visited in June during the world cup. My taxi dropped us off at night, and the front of the hotel resembled Skid Row in Los Angeles. Once we got inside, everything was clean, and service was fine checking in.The elevator broke down a few times during our stay, which made being on the 7th floor lame. Street noise was loud during the day. Also, there was a disco across the street at our earshot that became very lively around midnight, bring your earplugs The door to the room didn't seem very secure. A quick kick could knock it down. Bathroom is adequate, as was breakfast. I would not recommend this hotel to any female traveling alone or anyone that worries about security.
I stayed in this hotel in July 2014 during World Cup Soccer. I liked the location of very much -- everything is within walking distance. The bus stands and train stations are very close. Also it is very close to the popular market place on De Marco Avenue. It provides free wi-fi access which is very useful.
The hotel is in downtown Sao paulo, in a place where is not recommended to go out at night. Not a lot of places to eat around the hotel. The rooms are basic, clean rooms. The staff is kind but most of the staff dont speak english (we communicted with google translate).
Coming from Australia with no portugese skills, gritty downtown Sao Paulo is a little confronting. The staff at Cinelandia are very willing and helpful even with a language barrier. The hotel is basic but this is reflected in the price.
This hotel is basic, but clean and ok. The location is in a more gritty part of Sao Paulo very central for a lot of sights. Also very close to the very good Sao Paulo metro system. Taxis are always available across the road as well. We stayed over the weekend. Friday and Saturday were great - lots of people around and action packed city centre. Sunday was a different story once the sun went down. Everything was closed and shuttered and a large number of questionable characters lurking around - and right outside the hotel door.
My husband and I stayed with my sister for two nights. The rooms are very small, which doesn't bother us and if you prefer a larger room book a twin room. My sister had one of these and there is more room for luggage. I'm a light sleeper and did not have any trouble sleeping here. There was some street noise but nothing out of the ordinary in a big city. We slept with the air con on fan setting and that was sufficient during our visit only putting the actual air con on when we were getting ready to go out. Staff did not speak english however always did their best to help where they could. The location is the best part about this place and we never felt unsafe - obviously stick to main thoroughfares. I found there was a strong police presence most places we went in Sao Paulo and we walked to nearby restaurants at night without problem. There is also a great open air market a close walk by on Sunday's. We walked to most of the main tourist destinations as we prefer to see cities in this way however you can easily catch a cab if walking is not your thing. I would stay here again if we are lucky enough to get back to Sao Paulo.…
Great things about this hotel are the price and the location. I do not have anything bad to say about the hotel because you get what you pay for, and this is not a 5 star hotel. So in that sense I cannot say something bad when I did not pay a 5 start price. I got what I paid for. Breakfast is included. It is the normal cereal, bread, fruit, and cold mean breakfast. Scrambled eggs are served also. The Brazilians here (most of the guests were Brazilian) seemed happy with the breakfast. I normally like American breakfast choices are they were not available. If you are from an English speaking country, there is not always someone on duty that can speak English. In the evenings, there usually was an English speaking person on duty. On the bad side, the street noises can be quite loud. Also, the immediate area seems to be OK to walk around at night, but I would be careful not to venture too far from the hotel. About one block from the hotel is a Citibank, and a Banco Itau. My B of A ATM card would not work at Citibank, but it did work at Banco Itau. While it is not the normal policy of the hotel staff to provide currency exchange services, they did change $ 50 US for me once. I left some valuable items in my room several times, and they were always there when I went back to room. So in general, I would have to say that your personal belongings are probably safe in this hotel. The WiFi in the hotel works well. If fact is works much better than many place I have stayed previously. So if you want a reasonably priced hotel centrally located that is clean, good WiFI, and centrally located, I think this would be a good place for your to say. If I am back in Sao Paulo on another visit, there is a good chance that I would stay here again.…
