Ive been backpacking asia for 5 months, staying in a myriad of hostels and hotels, and this is the first hotel ive actually checked out of within an hour of being there. The room was filthy, peeling wallpaper and the actual stench of urine in the room, and i dont mean the chinese plumbing, it smelled like someone actually soiled...

If you like being woken by Chinese tourists yelling "fuwuyuan" at full volume at 11pm, or listening to their late night chatting in corridors, or prostitutes dialing your phone every half hour until 1 am, or the manager ignoring you like a haughty school mistress when you stand in front of the counter for five minutes, this is the hotel...

The hotel is right in the center of town and the price seems reasonable, but those are the only positives. There are just way to many chinese tour groups here and they all seem to come home totally drunk at three in the morning and keep shouting at eachother for hours in the hallways. Also, when we arrived at the...

Mogao hotel had the best deal on elong, when I was checking hotels in Dunhuang. The hotel is located centrally on Mingshan Lu. Mingshan Lu is a good place to stay at in Dunhuang. Just 3 km down are the Mingsha Shan sand dunes. Nearby are Charlie Johng's cafe and John's information cafe. It's also near the night market, the...

a short walk to the buses that go to the mogao grottoes and crescent lake, as well as a short walk the night market. exceptional service from the staff (but I do speak Chinese). hailed cab for us, arranged car hire, etc. rooms smell a bit funny and there's no wet./ dry separation, but you get what you pay for.

Neat rooms, clean bathrooms, adequate showers. Bad smell due to smokers! Staff helpful but very little English. Well placed for tourists, near to buses, markets and restaurants. Use local buses rather than overpriced 'tour' buses to get to caves and sand dunes. Go to posh Silk Road Hotel and have drink on the terrace to watch sunset with fabulous views...

I was surprised at how big the rooms are, it was more like a suite with a couch and coffee table and nice furniture. It seems that only one girl speaks english and I think she may also be the manager, but all the staff were very helpful and friendly. The only downfall was the bed, the most hardest bed...

I visited during low season, which means the hotel prices were very competitive and hotel guests get a lot of attention. The staff were nice enough to get taxis for me, negotiate the price of the trip first, and then have me get on the taxi. The staff also advised on timing to leave for the train, etc. The only...

I arrived in Dunhuang early July 2011 with a Chinese friend to visit the Dunhuang Desert etc.It was a welcome relief to find such excellent accommodation in Dunhuang. The room was a little small but very clean and beautiful. The air conditioning was great as the weather was hot.The price at about 160 yuan per night from memory was great value...

We stayed at the Mogao for 2 nights while on holiday. We booked over the internet - that all worked out fine. It is a typical Chinese style business hotel with not much character. The location is great, right on Mingshan Street, just minutes walking from night markets, shops, travellers cafes, bike rentals, etc. Although it is on a main...
