My girlfriend and I stayed 3 nights in the homestay in May. It's about 12 km from the park but this is not a problem at all as they will collect you from the bus station for free (we got the bus from Chengdu - 10 hours) or from the airport (for a fee). Beware that if you arrive at...

Stayed at Zhuo Ma's for 2 days. Her family are super friendly and very helpful. I had a few problems though as this place is not easy to get to from the airport since taxi drivers don't know how to get there, and I was told to call Zhuo ma to give directions to the place to the taxi driver....

Hello fellow TA users, I've logged on to review Zhuo Ma's after a wonderful stay in May 2011 & am horrified by the poor reviews! My husband and I spent 5 months travelling Asia and Europe earlier this year, and Zhuo Ma's was the first place I thought of to review because we had such an awesome experience. Firstly, if...

If you are looking for an authentic Tibetan homestay, you are in luck. If you are looking for a plush hotel? Try something else. The house is amazing and the views are fantastic. I had a much different experience from some of the other reviews here. The family was very friendly and treated us very well, they really added to...

I was there during the busiest time of the year. The previous posts pretty much sums up my experience. I will give some brief descriptions of my time there. 1. There were over 20 guests to share 1 bathroom. I had to get up super early to make sure I even got a shower. I showered at night once and...

A real mixed bag here. The CURRENT experience at Zhou Ma's is NOT (I assume) what it once was, based on prior reviews. My impression is that Zhou Ma feels she has "made it", given her good reviews in, e.g., the Lonely Planet, and is now coasting on that reputation. Still, some very good things, but also some very bad....

The home stay came highly recommended, so during a trip to Jiuzhaigou during National Holiday, we decided to give Zhuo Ma's a shot. We have lived in China for two years and traveled extensively around Asia and Europe, so we have a broad and open minded idea of what acceptable lodgings can be. I cannot recommend this place, but I...

Not the best value for money, as quite overpriced. Rooms are beautiful, but very cold, literally freezing, you can't really be in the room unless you are in bed under all the covered. The communal area heated with a big stove, but at the time of my stay stove seemed to be brocken and the whole house filled up with...

Competition for use of the inadequate and not very clean bathroom/loo. Flies sitting on the bread. Friendly enough grandmother who cooked good food. But over priced place for what it is. Did not help that we were put, without warning, in a distant house at night. With only a hole in the ground for a lavatory. Was a relief to...

I recently stayed at Zhuo Ma's homestay with my partner during a short trip to China. We decided to stay at the Homestay having read some of the excellent TA reviews, and were very much looking forward to a genuine Tibetan homestay experience. Overall, we enjoyed our stay, and we were glad that we picked this place (although would not...

Official Description (provided by the hotel)
Zhuo Ma's Jiuzhaigou Home Stay is the Lonely Planet and Rough Guide top choices for Jiuzhaigou accommodation. It is located in the beautiful Shang Si Zhai Valley which is 15km from the park entrance (free transfers provided) where you will see local Tibetans go about their daily life, herding yak and goats as well as going on pilgrimages around our sacred mountains. Zhuo Ma runs the home stay with her mother (Ama) and brothers. They share their time between the home stay and their A Bu Lu Zi Tibetan Restaurant and between them will make sure you have a great stay! There is 24hrs hot water and a western toilet in the home stay. It is a traditional Tibetan home so there are no en-suite bathrooms. There is one bathroom on the ground floor of the home as well as two outhouse toilets, one with a solar heated hot shower. They do everything they can to make your stay comfortable but please note that this is a home stay in a beautiful, traditional Tibetan valley, not a hotel. ... more   less
