We had a great stay at Flying Donkey, the staff are amazing particularly Paul who helped us to plan the rest of our Ecuador trip for which we will be forever grateful to him! The rooms and clean and comfortable, the bathrooms are clean with piping hot showers and the hostel itself is quiet and tranquil. Superb location as well,... More

We spent 3 nights at the Flying Donkey Hostal and it was very good. It's only a few blocks from the market and a similar distance to the main square. There are several restaurants within a few blocks as well and a minimart a block away. The room was clean and the shower had hot water. We had a twin... More

The flying donkey is a clean, centrally located hostal with extremely helpful and welcoming staff! The private rooms come with shampoo/body wash and a towel. It also had a great view of the busy Otavalo streets. I highly recommend The Flying Donkey!

We stayed here for four days. While it is not a luxury hotel the hostel is clean, comfortable, and cheap. Very nice couple run the hostel and even their very young son is very friendly. Funky and fun wall hanging everywhere. Includes a kitchen where you can cook your own food. We came back from the market early when they... More

I was at FD for four nights and I feel very welcomed. Paul is a great host and had lots of information about Otavalo and arounds. Great kitchen with free fruit and coffee in the morning is always a plus. All facilities and rooms are super clean. If we can we will come back to stay at FD.

A spacious and clean hostel with a great central location close to shops, and market. The bus terminal is a 15 minute walk away. The kitchen facilities are good. The staff are very helpful and advise on all the local attractions. The wifi is not reliable and occasionally experiences outages. I do not think this hostel offers good value for... More

We stayed here three nights. Staff are helpful though sometimes absent from reception. The kitchen is very well equipped with a powerful gas hob. The room was clean and comfortable. Quiet too considering it looked over the street. Atmosphere was a little lacking in the hostel but most likely just because it was quite quiet. The roof terrace is great... More

Positive points: The rooms were spotless; the beds were very comfortable; it was quiet; the hostel provided soap, shampoo and towels; the kitchen was big; the view from the terrace was great; the owner was very friendly and informative. Negative points: none that spring to mind. All in all an excellent place.

Some of the less than positive comments on the FD are regarding the noise. Yep, Av Calderon is quite noisy. The FD has done their best to mitigate this by installing attractive wood shutters to block out the light and noise (i.e. Rm 12). However, it is an impossibly noisy street. The good news is that the noise dies down... More
