This summer I had the chance to travel through Central America for 5 weeks. One of my highlights has definitely been my stay at the Roatán Backpacker's with its open-armed welcome. This lovely little hostel is owned by that even more lovely Canadian woman and her two sons. I remember sitting with Mel next to the pool and talking about...

I stayed at the hostel for over a month as I am volunteering at the island. Everything was great. Mel is a great host, taking wonderful care of her guests. When up was raining she took my laundry in. The hostel is clean and well organized. It is very laid back and more quiet than a party hostel. You are...

I stayed only for 1 night to catch a flight to Belize. Mel the owner is incredibly sweet and welcoming. The hostel is clean, secure and has a nice little pool. They do not have a bar but a kitchen for the budget travelers. Very social place and it's like a little family.

Roatán Backpackers Hostel is a lush and lovely place to be on a budget. The amenities make it such an unbeatable value. My day: wake up to the ocean breezes; make tea in the communal kitchen; meditate and do yoga on the stone patio past the pool; make breakfast; walk one minute to the road, and rent a paddleboard from...

First off, I definitely reccomend this place. And since I agree with all the positive comments in the "Very Good" and "Excellent" categories as the place is everything you'd expect from a hostel (with a pool too), I'll eliminate redundancy and just add what I think would be the best info to help potential future guests. 1. Taxi Info: From...

We stayed here for a few nights the beginning of the trip. My bf had stayed here prior and absolutely loved it. Mel is so great. She is just so welcoming and nice. The hostel is kept in an all natural state. There are trees and plants all around. We stayed in the apt room which had a small kitchen...

There are several other options, from dorm beds to self contained units, there is a something to suit everybody. The hostel is a happy place where everyone gels and has a great time. Mel the owner is very warm and accommodating, very...

The Roatan backpacker's hostel is such a nice hostel. Mel is so friendly and helpfull in every way! It's a very good budget oppertunity with a good location, kitchen and swimmingpool. We stayed there for a week and enjoyed it very much! Each bed have their own fan in the dorm rooms, but unfortunately they aren't that strong, so it...

Thanks for the review, Laura. I'm so glad you guys had a good time. The dorm has an overhead oscillating fan as well as individual fans on each bunk, but I agree that during the hot periods, it can get warm, especially when the dorm is full. I'm planning on installing a 2 directional window fan as well, directly across...
