If you want to deeply connect with the largest land mammal on the planet, this is the place. Be prepared to get dirty and feel deep joy. Elephant Stay is well run, the Thai food is delicious, and the accommodations are clean and simple.

How much free roaming time do the elephants have? How many hours a day are they chained? Unethical practices include riding with the chair, painting, playing games and music. As you know, elephants are abused to do those things. What kind of elephant enrichment program do you offer? How many days a week are the elephants left alone by tourists? Do you provide an on-site vet? Do your mahouts use bull hooks? Are they being educated about praise and reward methods rather than cruelty and punishment? Thank you - I like to make sure I'm supporting an animal ethical business.

I don't believe you can purchase an elephant or a baby from Elephantstay. They're family and they stay with family. But thank you for inquiring.

I had read a few reviews saying that the facility was messy and had old junk equipment and things just lying around and the elephants are chained and not free to roam and some don't get exercise. Out of the many reviews, most of which are great, those few made me wonder if this is something I would want to do. They were older reviews, so I thought I would ask to see if guest that had been recently had seen the same conditions?? Thank you, Heather-Sue
