What a great place to stay. Breakfasts are fantastic something different everyday along with toast, cereals etc. Coffee and tea available all day long. Rooms very clean and comfortable. Our hosts Stephen, his lovely wife Salmhia and the youngest son Daniel,Stephen is full of knowledge off the area and the wildlife. It’s just so nice to be in a B&B and treated like a part of their family, we had some fantastic chats with both of them. Went up to their new place for the first breakfast and had a tour, what a fantastic place to bring your family also a wonderful Sky room for a romantic treat for a coup,e with no children, this will be our next room to book for September, although we love staying at Stephen’s Place. Hopefully the next stay we will be able to sample the evening meals. Thanks again for a great stay.…
We went there after the lock down was over. We stayed in the new place. It is more like a B&B in UK. We had a great time and the four km walk outside the house is great. We are not actually looking for wildlife but still had a good time.
Stephen's Place is a home that Stephen, Salmiah and their boys choose to invite you to stay in. It has that homely feeling and Salmiah's food is amazing. We had a different breakfast each morning and they are really flexible about start times and evening meals are great value and superb. It is comfortable, not luxurious but that is not why you come and stay here. You come and stay here for the wildlife, for the Fraser's Hill experience. Located on the telecom loop you are an hour or so walk from "town" but in a birdy area. The garden is full of birds, squirrel and Tree shrews especially first thing when they, as well as we, inspect the moth trap haul. The birding up here is fantastic. It can be cold so be prepared for that but this the place to stay if you are interested in wildlife. Stephen and his guests are a wealth of knowledge and we really enjoyed our stay. We will definitely be back one day. …
A huge thank you to Stephen, Salmiah and their sons for a lovely stay. The entire family was gracious, welcoming and generous. I came there for moths, and despite arriving in the rainy season, the moths and other insects at the light were amazing. Abundant, beautiful and diverse! The gardens are a magnet for local birds and small mammals with exceptional photo opportunities. Stephen is a font of knowledge about all things natural and local. The setting is divine, quiet and the villa elegant. He maintains a comprehensive library including books on all aspects of the natural history to be found at Fraser's Hill. Do check out the book on the birds of Fraser's Hill written by his son. Our room was comfortable, spacious and immaculate. You would have to be nuts not to take advantage of the meals offered there by Salmiah and her helper. The food is tasty, satisfying and lovingly prepared. Dinner is three large courses, with delicious homemade desserts. We had one meal in town and were sorry we wasted the money. The food offered at Stephen's Place represents an exceptional value. We look forward to returning during the dry season for what we are sure will be another satisfying yet different experience. The Norwegians say, "tusen takk", a thousand thanks to all! Pam and Joe…
We stayed three nights at Stephen's Place and could have stayed longer. Located right on top of the hill at Girdle road where the Telecom loop is, it was quiet, calm and relaxing with just the sounds of nature. Stephen, Salmiah and their two boys are wonderful hosts, welcoming us to their beautiful home and serving delicious breakfasts and dinners. We are glad that we came off-season. Wildlife sightings especially birds were great, even right outside your doorstep in Stephen's garden. The moth trap and bright spotlight left switched on all night in the yard would attract a multitude of moths and other insects. In the early morning, it was amazing to observe the birds, squirrels and treeshrews so up close having a feeding fiesta. Pity the moths and cicadas though! Mealtimes were always filled with great conversations with other guests about interesting birds and creatures that each of us saw that day. After dinner, Stephen's library of nature-related books would be put to good use. It is fantastic that we could look up for references of what we spotted during the day. Stephen is ever helpful and would share local knowledge and tips with us. Our accommodation for the three nights was Sunbird room with bathroom ensuite - well appointed, clean and super comfy. Highly recommended!…
