If you have watched the old Japanese drama ‘beach boy’ before, you would expect the alike environment and experiences ;). If you are looking for 5 stars facility + spa, this place is not for you. Nevertheless, if you are looking for someone who is passion (very) about family kind of homestay services and his professional skillset (snorkel/scuba), most important, if you are looking for sparkling clean, clean and clean place to stay (I believe 99% of the ppl are demanding this while travelling), also, if you are looking for a place which get rid of too commercialise and too crowded tourist spot, this is the place for you! No worry about the food, Liang always recommend some simple, nice or fresh food based on your preferences. He keeps some real fresh fishes caught by local fisherman, you then spend small ‘cooking fee’ by the local restaurant for your dinner. The fish was truly fresh (based on the texture and colour, sounds pro right ;)). Liang also personalised our scuba trip, he would bring you to his secret place, depends to your luck and level (he likes to use this phrase ;)), most of the time you get to see what you want to see and more. (Well, I was swimming with turtle side by side ;)) Apart from that, you may spend your entire day at the deck’s lazy chair, which is facing to the ocean, listen to the orchestration of the wave. It is windy, it is quiet, neighbourhood with kampung (little village) feel. We were visiting the island right on Muslim new year 1.May, ppl were greeting each other ‘Selamat Hari Raya’ (we also ;)) in the island. We even get invited by local for open house! Makcik next door is simply amazing, always ready some simple food for us, at one point we even stepped into her kitchen to prepare our own roti bakar (toasted bread) at morning not because she is not doing a good job, but we felt so close to each other and treated it like grandma’s kitchen 🤭. Can’t describe all here, it is truly an amazing experience, beyond my expectation, something which my family is looking for the vacation, enough of the too commercialise type of promotion. Check up the photos in social media, you won’t regret to visit (re visit) this little blue cottage. Thumbs up, Liang. Keep up the good work and passion, we shall see you again (I am very sure). Thanks for the penfolds by the way ;). Cheers

(This review is duplicated from my own Google Review) X Rector Minsu is the place to stay if you're spending time in the village of Genting. Mr. Liang is the most amazing host - in fact, 'host' does not even describe what he does. He's a host, tour guide, adventure buddy, and all around great company. He spends pretty much all the time with guests, ensuring that everyone has an amazing experience. There is a level of personal touch here that you won't get anywhere else. He's able to cater to everyone's needs, young and old, scared of water or advanced swimmers, and he will go out of his way to make sure everyone has a wonderful experience tailored to their needs. In addition to this, he provides amazing recommendations for food and things to do, and has a wealth of knowledge from his experience on the island. His girlfriend (and coworker) also spent plenty of time with us, and the two work together to make it a fantastic experience for all guests. The rooms at X Rector Minsu will house 4 guests, and there are a lot of nice touches to ensure everything is available. The Play Room is nice for activities, and the view from the shared balcony is just gorgeous.

Had a really comfortable & enjoyable 3D2N stay at X Rector Minsu! :D First of all, the cleanliness is tip-top. There's a free self-service washing machine & you can do your laundry at ease. Other special facilities are seaview deck, a lounge where you can buy some snacks & drinks & play games etc. Secondly the owner Mr Liang & his gf Wiwie were really hospitable & caring. They led us to scenic spots here at Kg. Genting. The snorkeling trip which was the highlight of this trip was really so fun! Overall a truly memorable trip. Would come back again in the future. :)

Hospitality: ⭐️⭐️⭐️⭐️⭐️ Room: ⭐️⭐️⭐️⭐️⭐️ Packages provided: ⭐️⭐️⭐️⭐️⭐️ Price: very affordable and definitely worth it! Ah Liang and his gf are so friendly and they also provided us with lots of common area to chill and relax eg. balcony to enjoy the sunset, entertainment room (with karaoke, snacks, refill mineral water, TV, massager etc.), vegetarian kitchen, wet area and more Also with high speed wifi and the room & toilet are exceptionally clean and comfortable to stay. Also, for non-muslim if you wish to drink a bit, feel free to bring along ur own fav, ah liang can formulate his personal fav for u hahhaha I’d definitely recommend family to bring your kids here for snorkeling trip, ah Liang is so patient and the way he trained us was very easy to understand and he brought us to lots of beautiful places to view the underwater world The snorkeling trip with ah Liang was definitely the best snorkel experience I’ve ever had compared to lots of diff packages provided by other resorts

Here is really clean and neat with the hospitality host, Liang 👍 You may chill and relax at the deck with sea view. Also, their snorkelling package is different with others. Liang will explain a lot of skills and make you explore the fun of underwater!! Definitely recommend 🙌🙌

Ah Liang and his GF - Wie Wi are wonderful guest, Made the entire trip unforgettable for us. 5 Start service, delivered cool & composed with a smile. Excellent with kids (as we introduced snorkelling to our 5 y/o and 8y/o). The training and snorkelling experience was out of this world. The facility was super clean and innovatively done -- water taps everywhere to wash the sand and rain shower to allow you to cool off. Entertainment room (TV, Karaoke, Darts, music, etc.) and common area to make your own bfast and drinks. Full set of snorkeling gear including powered goggles for those with glasses. Wonderful beach and very friendly local restaurants (Kak Noh & David's - Sun Beach Seafood Restaurant) nearby. Kg. Genting is an hidden gem in Tioman and a walk to nearby Love Cave (Gua Gelamin) is a must do. We walked on the beach and had lunch at Melina (excellent pasta) before walking back via the jungle trail. Ah Liang will help you get from the jetty to the hotel (800m away). There is a duty free shop at the Jetty that has booze and other food items (water, juice, chips, ice cream, etc.) so you can travel light. The host will also help to organize the Ferry trip from either Mersing or Tg. Gemok (where we boarded). 3 nights felt too short at this paradise. Overall will definitely recommend for family with young kids.

Simply awesome! I wished I had learned the basic techniques of snorkeling much earlier. But it’s never too late. We stayed 4D3N and took the snorkeling package. Definitely the best decision we had made. The half day training made our snorkel experience that much more enjoyable. And, we didn’t know Tioman underwater still had such vibrant corals and sea life! You must experience this to believe it. Mr Liang, our gracious host, trainer and guide made the stay memorable! The place is impeccably clean. No sand anywhere in the rooms or common shared areas. Come here and you’ll find out why. Food variety and quality is commendable for a small kampung on an island. Food stalls or gerai are just outside, a few steps away. The beach is right in front and faces the gorgeous sunset. Mr Liang also took us for a 4-hour hike up Batu Permata, a high look-out point about 3 km south of Kg Genting. On our last day, he brought us to Gua Kelamin with such picturesque views. Come here if you are looking for a quiet yet adventurous holiday to re-charge. You won’t regret it.

10/10 . I definitely recommend this place. I loved it and will come back again when possible. Here is my full experience of the hotel. Liang, is the owner there, he works with his girlfriend and Amir. They are all very nice people. Once you go there you'll notice that the place is very neat and beautifully designed. We'll talk about the room first. One room was enough for 4 people to stay comfortably. The bed was very comfortable. Everything is clean. There is also a place outside to look at the beach. There are comfortable seats and there even is a swing to play with. There is also this deck to sit at and let your legs hang out from. At night the waves come close to the deck but not close enough for you to be wet so its at the perfect distance. Also there are some dumbbells and a pullup bar if u want to get some exercise in, running on the beach is nice too as the sand is very soft. Next there is a common room where u can hangout at. Theres is a karaoke, darts, bingo, various puzzles, a ukulele and a guitar. This is also where u can buy some snacks like Maggie mee, prawn crackers, some nuts and more. The drinks are located in another room. There are various drinks like soft drinks, fruit drinks and beer. I spent 2 days there so I'll talk about what i did. On the first day i went jungle hiking. It was a long trip but it was definitely worth it. We reach this place called mother willow it was definitely a sight. Then we went to the "rockfall". It is a must visit. Liang is very familiar with the place and showed us many cool plants and rocks. The next day we went snorkeling. It was beautiful. Liang brought us to the best places. Before that he taught us many things about snorkeling to keep us safe, he is very responsible and professional. He brought us to a total of 3 places to snorkel and a beach called the white sand beach, another must go. We saw many beautiful corals. It was breath taking. Even better we saw a total of 3 turtles, 4 baby sharks, dont worry they wont bite they are even more afraid of us, they are a type of shark no more bigger than 2 feet. Of course there are other fishes but i forgot their names. The boat ride was also amazing seeing the sun set was very beautiful. The hotel has everything you need. The restaurants are close by. If you need any help Liang is there to help you.

During reservation, Mr. Wee (via WhatsApp) was accommodative to all my questions and helped us understand what to expect during our stay. Upon arrival, Mr.Liang & his supporting staff (Mr. Amirul) was the person who took care of our stay the whole time. Both of them also took care of our snorkeling training, jungle trekking (to the neighbouring village - Kampung Paya & the beautiful natural rockfalls), rental of snorkeling equipment, planning for each of our meals at local restaurants, local motorbike transport, snorkeling guide to beautiful island spots (to see turtles, stingrays, hundreds of beautiful fishes, corals, white sandy private beach etc.) and up until sending us up to the ferry on our last day! The snorkeling training was important for our kids and ourselves (who were not regular island travelers) to enjoy the snorkeling outing. I appreciated his emphasis on safety. We were at room 2 , which is a room with 2 queen size beds, a nice, clean & functional air-conditioned room for 2 adults & 2 kids (9yo & 5yo). The bedroom & attached bathroom was also clean. I liked the common lounge (which is an open deck with lounge chairs where you could access to the common refrigerator with beer, wines & soft drinks) and the playroom (which has a dry kitchen, TV , a dart board , board games and guitars)! Kids loved the playroom! Food wise, the local food around Kampung Genting was great for us. Kids & adults loved the Roti Canai from a local store for breakfast, and lunch was more of being practical as we also did cup noodles (since time for snorkeling was a priority) ;) and dinner was always good at the Chinese seafood restaurant. Tip: bring plenty of snacks for kids to quench their hunger after all the outdoor activity! The best part of the experience in this stay was the outdoor activities like jungle trekking & actual snorkeling (at a different island) & snorkeling training on a "natural shallow swimming pool" which was a 20 meter walking distance (from hotel) where the whole family trained on a crystal clear shallow water body and we could swim out to see many coral fishes, puffer fish etc. This is a quiet village too. Perfect for a family getaway.
