Everything here ticked all our criteria for a perfect stay. Its located on the edge of ABC village, there are a handful of good, cheap local restaurants nearby(we especially liked AF restaurant). We snorkeled, went diving(go to blue heaven dive centre) went on jungle treks and chilled on the beach right next to Bamboo Hill.
We stayed in room 4, which was priced very reasonably, its up a few steps but nothing too strenuous. Very comfortable beds, 2 pillows(not something you always get in Malaysia!), a ceiling fan and a cool sea breeze is all you need. The rooms are kept really clean, there is the bonus of a fridge, a balcony overlooking the bay and a hammock to have a well deserved nap after a long day of diving/trekking!.
Bamboo hill is extremely eco-friendly, absoloutely no plastic, they provide re usable water bottles that you can fill at reception. WIFI is surprisingly good here if you needed your social media fix!
Lastly but by no means least, the owner Sue is one of the most friendly, helpful people we've ever met! Nothing was too much trouble, we were given fins for snorkelling, beach mats, all the tea & coffee you could drink, they have bikes which we used a lot, a laundry service, Sue rang a cafe on the other side of the island to check they were open for us.
Special mention also to Waari who was there to greet us and was equally as friendly and helpful. The small team at Bamboo really do care about the guests, the environment and their island. Im not normally one for long reviews full of such praise but Bamboo Hill really does deserve it. We're already trying to work out when we can return!

If you think about tropical island, palm fringed beach, grey rocks, jungle clad hills arising from the sea, friendly locals. And then a chalet on the beach steps from the warm sea, rich in corals and fish. You can just relax on the terrace, enjoy the view, watch the southern cross emerging at night, fall asleep by the sounds of the waves and jungle...
The location both at large scale (lush tropical island) and small scale (the chalet overlooking the beach and hills) exceeded our expectations. Chalet was spacious and clean, no AC and no need for it. We appreciated the kitchenette, perfect for breakfast, and of course the reusable water bottles refillable at the reception, and the shopping bags. Also the bikes available at the reception were very handy. Do not have high expectations about food at the ABC.

After visiting 5 Malaysian islands this summer and staying in 6 different places, this was by far our favourite stay!

We had such an incredible stay and felt so welcome and at ease with Sue and Waari. The room was clean and comfortable with beautiful views of the beach and huge doors that opened at the side of the room next the jungle and at the front to the ocean. Everything was wooden and painted pale blue just like a beach chalet should be. Sue was chatty and friendly to us every day and it was interesting hearing about her life. Waari was so relaxed and kind; he helped us carry our luggage to and from the boat and adjust the bike seats. Nothing was ever too much trouble or an inconvenience.

This is the perfect place to stay to fit in some jungle walks, dives and snorkels or equally to just do absolutely nothing but lie on the beach all day.

Thank you for giving us such a memorable trip. We want to return at the end of October!

We spent 4 weeks on Tioman island and our last 2 weeks spent at Bamboo Hill was definitely the highlight for us.

Sue and her team, Juliana and Warri are all friendly, warm & welcoming - making our stay extremely comfortable and relaxing.

The chalets are set into the hillside and they are impeccably clean - the attention to detail is faultless. We spent endless time watching the sea from the hammock on our balcony. Bamboo Hill also operates eco consciously, providing purified spring water refills to guests.

Snorkelling masks, beach mats and bicycles are available for guests to use. The bay has a small beach (depending on the tide)

Local restaurants are within a short walking distance.

Perfect end to our stay on Tioman and highly recommend staying here!

This was an excellent holiday, firstly because Pulau Tioman is extremely beautiful and restful, and secondly, because Bamboo Hill Chalets is quite possibly the very best place to stay on the island, it certainly seemed so to us, set on the hillside amidst tropical plants with incredible views of the sea and surrounding hills. We were a family group of 7 with ages being 2, 5, 20s, 30s and 60s. The children and their parents stayed in Chalet 1 and the uncle and grandparents of the family in 4 and 5. The views from each chalet, especially the higher ones, are incredible, with the bed positioned for a stunning wake up reminder of where you are. The chalets are impeccably clean and charming with their lovely decor and polished wooden floors, and have everything you need - strong wifi (my husband had to be in daily contact with New Zealand, and this was no trouble), USB ports directly into the wall to charge your phone, filtered water as much as you wanted, hot showers, tea, coffee. Even coming from a NZ winter, we didn’t need air con, and you wouldn’t really want it, as the breeze and fans were good and you really wouldn’t want to shut yourself inside anyway. The family management team at Bamboo Hill is the “icing on the cake”. Sue, Ben, Juliana, Warri, thank you for the advice you gave, for organising trips, for phoning ahead for us and finding out things, for the “Happy Birthday” welcome to the 5-year-old when we arrived on his special day, for organising the Malaysian breakfasts, and for the bikes at our disposal, including child seats (and we loved biking around the island where we could).
Your little corner of our world now holds a very special place in our hearts,

This place to stay is THE BEST. The woman that runs the place, Sue, is heart warming as if you go out for the day, she is there welcoming you back. If you have any queries about Tioman Island or anything she is very knowledgeable and happy to help. The chalets are very clean and pretty 😍. Some of the rooms provide sofa beds for children or extra people as the room only has one permanent double bed. All of them are facing the beautiful sea and some of them have
steps down to the shore. On the balcony there are put up- able hammocks that you can lie in and watch the sunset or people playing on the beach. Sue, the owner, has a water filter for you to have clean, drinkable water. She doesn't believe in plastic bottles so she gives each person a clean, metal bottle to fill with water 💧. Sue also has two bikes to lend to get around the island.Overall, I would strongly recommend staying here at Bamboo Hill Chalets as it is a lovely place to stay.

Spent our third short vacation at Bamboo Hill. Considering we were the first guests for several months, Sue the proprietor has kept on top of the maintenance. The ocean front chalets are simple, well appointed, clean and comfortable. There is no air conditioning but you won’t need it even in the hottest months as the sea breezes are perfect.
There are several nearby restaurants to get breakfast, lunch and dinner but many are still closed due to the pandemic. Things will get busy quickly now that the interstate borders are open.
Behind the property is a fantastic jungle walk to a deserted beach. There is a good dive school 5 minutes walk away and Sue can arrange fishing trips with pickups from the beach. On our fishing trip we caught a bucket load of fish which was cleaned and barbecued by Sue’s family.
Sue is so well organised and nothing is too much trouble. She helps with organising everything you want to do.
Thanks for making our short break so enjoyable.

Where do I even start? Bamboo Hill Chalet is one of the best places to stay in Tioman. Located at the edge of ABC village, it is blessed with the most amazing location with stunning views of the ocean. Now, you do not come to Bamboo Hill to capture the best Instagram photo. If that is your intention, then please stay else where. Bamboo Hill is meant for those that needs an escape from reality and a recharge in life. The rooms are perfect; clean, simple, rustic and inviting. The cherry on top is lovely Sue, the manager. Sue has been nothing but amazing and please have a conversation with her! There’s something about this place that makes you wana stay, forever. I wish I could. I left feeling enlightened. Will be back. Z.

Thank you Zach for summing up what is at the heart of Bamboo Hill. I enjoyed your company and look forward hopefully to another visit and continuing our interesting conversations. Enlightenment is a greatly misunderstood word; it is not the exceptionally rare state most believe it to be. Rather, is the natural state of unbroken peace of mind and unconditional love that is the deepest truth for everyone without exception. The best metaphor is a grey sky with a tiny patch of blue and being ‘enlightened’ is to understand in direct experience that the open, infinite sky is not disturbed by the clouds! Sometimes life brings us to a place so we ‘taste’ peace, like a tiny patch of blue in all the grey of what is apparently real life. 🙏🏻 Sue

The staff at Bamboo Hill are absolutely phenomenal, but the room views are really the star here. Seconds away from the beach; you can see the entirety of the ABC bay and most of Tekek from each room, watch weather roll in/out while you relax in a hammock. Faster WiFi than you have at home.

Wow! This is a very special place on Tioman Island! This was one of our favorite accommodations (if not our favorite!) during our 5 weeks trip in Malaysia!
The chalets are super, super cute, all with balcony facing the sea; you can walk down from your chalet straight to the beach (or into the sea at high tide). The views from the balcony are amazing! The chalets are tucked away on the edge of the jungle but only a few minutes walk to cafe, restaurants, snorkeling/diving center; it gives a feeling of seclusion while being close to some amenities!
Sue, the owner, is a wonderful woman; very friendly and kind.
Fast and reliable wifi (we work online so this is very important to us). I loved the fact that free filter water was provided (no need to buy more plastic bottles!).
We only wish we stayed longer than 3 nights... This is one of few places we know we will go back to one day... Thank you Sue!!
