If security is the main reason which stopped you from travelling to Mabul and experience diving with this awesome rig. Perhaps you can reconsider as every night they have at least 4 police (fully armed) to station on the rig. We have chosen to do...More

Spent 5 nights here diving Sipadan. What kind of stationary accommodation could have a more nautical theme that a converted oil rig? Bags of character and efficiently run, to boot. The rooms are (unsurprisingly), nothing special but are functional with cold ac and decent beds....More

OK. So this is a place for divers. Although a few non-scuba divers did come and stay, and seemed to be having a great time. It has always been a dream of mine to come and visit this rig and dive. It did not disappoint....More

Definitely staying. Made booking and everything. I was going to email this, but posting it here as others may be interested to see answer too. On our non dive day (24hrs before flight) I am really interested in learning some more about/seeing the Bajau Laut (Sea Gypsies). I know I can do this from Semporna by walking to their land-based homes, although it is frowned upon as they understandably do not like intrusion by tourists. In order to see the people who are still living at sea, I found little information online other than that I need a boat around Mabul. I guess my question is do we pass by their sea based living areas to and from dive sites and as we travel around the area for our dives, or is booking a special trip necessary, or even possible? If it is possible, do you know anywhere/can you arrange trips for guests who want to learn more about their unique culture and take some photographs?
