Sipadan Water Village is a resort built entirely over the water on stilts. In its design, Sipadan Water Village has achieved near utopia in its layout, splendid water cottage accommodations with flowered sidewalks, wonderfully prepared Asian and Continental cuisine, and impeccable and personable service! The dive program is comparable to none as everyone at Sipadan Water Village has an attitude and passion for what the sea has to offer.

We felt very good for a week of diving into n a group of 6 friends.
We liked the food and the friendly atmosphere.
Rooms are generally well maintained even if the whole resort show sign of the time and would need some renovations.
The diving center has a god with good guides, thanks Mar, but could be improved as well with minor attentions and good maintenance.

The only thing that kind of ruined the whole experience is the outrageous currency change rate applied at the reception, better change money before arriving

The resort is getting very tired. The location is beautiful but the entire facility need some investment. This also applies to the dive centre. The rental equipment needs to be updated. Saying that the staff are great and trying their hardest. Sadly the little island of Mabul is a mess. There doesn't seem to be any garbage program so the beaches and water has lots of plastic floating. The government and resorts should hire the locals to clean up the beaches before it is too late.

It was a moderate experience with food and accommodation. The dive sites here were nice with loads of fish and sea creatures. Pricewise, it was not too expensive to stay here comparing to other dive resort. They have been doing well to preseve the sea and animals here.

We recently visited this "resort" with a group of friends (8 of us in total). We were very excited ot visit this place from the photos we had seen on the official website. However upon arrival our excitement quickly dissapeared and we slowly reaslised that what we had seen online was not a true reflection of what we were seeing in person.
The resort was completely run down with many of the burrees delapitated and empty as they were in such poor condition that they were falling apart. It is in urgent need of repair before someone gets hurt.
Rooms were clean however the bathrooms had water leaking from the bottom of the toilets and showers temperature was unable to be controlled easily.
The rooms were not secure and some rooms had no lock on the shutters for security.
Upon arrival we found multiple large sea snakes around hiding in air conditioning systems and very close to the reception area. These snakes are highly venomous and should not be able to be in such close proximity to guests.
One of our friends had an incident where she lent on one of the balconies and a piece of wood from the balcony fell off.
There was no private beach access where we could swim and we were not even able to swim off our burrees into the water. There was basically next to nothing to do except do a 4 hour (half day) trip to Mabul island.
It was also very confronting to see the local people lviing diectly behind the resort, who would come on their boats around our rooms and ask for food or try to sell us things.
We spent alot of money to stay here and in my opinion it was not worth it at all. $600 AUD a night is too much and i would urge anyone who is wanting to visit here to reconsider.
In saying this the staff at the resort were very friendly and kind and the food was not bad.
The management team who are not located onsite are however out fo tune with thier clients and the needs of the resort and should consider a further review of the proerty and make commitments to restoring and updating it.

I wished I had read August review (Natalia T’s review is exactly it) but I am here now. I m very sad I came all the way to see the resort like this, I waited for months to be here to spend time with my husband but… resort is celebrating 30th this year and looks like they didn change/ update anything including their towels since 1994. 😭
Dive centre and equipment seems to be the only good place and I was given fairly new BCD.

The staff are doing their best but the resort desperately needs some investment and proper management. Lots of the wooden bungalows are completely derelict. The dive centre is in a terrible state of repair - a health and safety hazard due to broken and missing parts of the boardwalk, the divers jetty closed due to bad repair and a snakes nest on the other jetty. The village is immediately next to the resort and is a bit of a noisy eye-sore with loud fishermen boats passing by. The rooms are large and clean but very basic. Dive equipment to hire was old and poorly looked after with leaks and rust. There are no dive watches to hire. The food however is excellent and all of the staff trying their best to provide a good service.

The staffs are sincere, helpful and charming. Their warm hospitality makes our stay pleasure and relaxed. The resort is less crowded, and less luxury compared to other nearby resorts, but the room is clean & nice view, and the best is the friendly staffs that always go beyond your needs.
We are being welcome and farewell with warm hospitality by all their staffs.
Divers are patient and good photographer.
It is suitable for friends & couple or family without young children.

Sipadan Water village refuse to acknowledge an extraordinary terrorism situation with the attack on Mabul island last week.

Both Malaysian and international governments have issued travel advisorys to this island and the East coast of Sabah as a whole forcing fully paid up guests to have no choice but to cancel already paid for reservations.

Neither Suri or the manager Amy would acknowledge the extraordinary and very sad and dangerous situation facing tourists to their resort where they acknowledge they are unable to garantee the safety of their guests.

Nowhere in their "cancellation" policy is any mention made of terrorist events and they insist on charging 23% 'admin' fee on the cancellation of our booking (usd 4000 worth of accommodation).

We feel that at most a 5% admin fee is warranted however in these terrible circumstances anything more cannot be justified as many of the charges are for the use of transport and diving equipment, none of which we would have used.

Be aware of this resort and their complete lack of pragmatism with respect to cancelations during an extremely unsafe time for people visiting the island.

Malaysia is suffering from a terrible Image internationally, these types of experiences do little to help.

Hi Feral, there is no air cond for all the rooms, only ceiling fan. The air cond room is only available in bungalow resort, next to SWR, which the cost is very much higher. As for non divers, they can go for snorkelling, sunbath or short walk around the SWR.
