stayed for 3 nights the room was fine considering the location, food and staff were great and the guides second to none. Well worth a visit the wildlife in the area is abundant, we salots of different species on the jungle walks day and night including on the Kinabatangan by boat fabulous place
The rooms are nice and clean. The staff was more than friendly. They just restarted after the covid period so some things were not available( wifi). The food was very good and more than plenty. Some things need to be updated, after covid, but nevertheless we had a wonderfull stay
I signed up 3D2N Kinabatangan River Safari with Nature Lodge, but made it so unique was that it was during Recovery Movement Control period in Malaysia due to Covid-19. Just imagine the entire lodge only had me as the only guest. Nonetheless, the team comprises of Marlan (the Resident Manager cum chef), Ramzan (the guide cum boatman), Salman (assistant) and Sapri (driver) provided beyond full service even-though just me alone to ensure I had the best experience from the tour. Indeed, I had - I was so lucky enough to witness the Big 3 live alongside Kinabatangan River and can only be found in Borneo ie. pigmy elephants, Orang utans & Proboscis Monkeys - big thank to Ramzan with his never giving up spirit to find the wildlife. Never forget to thank Marlan & Salman - ensure I had a pleasant stays, my itinerary, my delicious breakfast- lunch - dinner. Last but not least, thank to Sapri for his safe driving behavior. Good team with good experience - one of the best time I had during this difficult year 2020. …
We had an excellent stay at Nature Lodge Kinabatangan for 3N/4D. The price was very reasonable, the transportation is very well organized, the rooms were basic but good, the food was very nice, the staff was very friendly and helpful and most importantly - the wild life was amazing! We saw wild orangutan, lots of Proboscis monkeys, pig tail monkeys, long tail monkeys, red and silver leaf monkeys, amazing birds and the most bizarre insects.
There's many tour operators for the Kinabatangan River and many lodges to stay at. Ultimately we chose the Nature Lodge Kinabatangan and their 3D/2N tour because it was an ok mid range price, and also because it offered more cruises and walks than anyone else we found. We were really happy with our decision in the end. The tour started with pickup from our hostel in Sandakan and then off to the orangutan and sun bear rehabilitation centres in Sepilok. We were a bit disappointed with the orangutan centre as it's just like being in a zoo. The sun bear centre was a bit more interesting as we hadn't seen those animals before. Lunch followed at a nearby restaurant and then there was a two-hour minibus journey to the river and a short boat trip to the other side. The staff at the resort were fabulous. Really friendly and helpful. Our accommodation was so much more than what we expected. Nice chalets with comfortable beds. Plenty of space, a large bathroom with good water pressure and hot water. A bench to sit on outside. Tea and coffee in the room and even plugs with USB points to charge our devices! Our guide and boat captain for the river tours were fantastic. Pointing out so many animals and answering all of our questions. After two cruises we saw an elephant, probiscus and many other monkeys, crocodiles, a monitor lizard, birds and more. The only one we missed was a wild orangutan. Animal sightings aren't guaranteed of course. On our evening walk we saw multiple animals, much more than just spiders and insects and more than we expected. Sadly, our tour was cut short because of the coronavirus lockdown, so we couldn't do any more activities. But the staff were really accommodating. Allowing us to stay for the full length of time we had booked and kept serving meals. It was a shame, but we'd already seen lots of animals so were happy with that. Travelled in late March and the weather was really good.…
Highly recommend staying here, staff are friendly and helpful. The price is very reasonable for what is included. The guides are knowledgable... food is great!! Accomodation is nice and clean (basic but that adds to the charm) Highly recommend
We stayed here as part of the 3D/2N package with our family. We loved the river cruises and the jungle walks (both day and night). Our guide was really friendly and knowledgeable. The chalets were clean and practical. The food was good and the setting was beautiful. During our stay we saw orangutans, crocodiles, an elephant, lots of proboscis monkeys and macaques. A great experience. We loved our stay here and I would highly recommend the trip and resort.
We went in October and to be perfectly honest thought it could have been done in one day and night as it was repetitive. Sadly although a 'free transfer' was advertised, due to our flight being early it cost us £72 to get to the airport!
We spent a 3 days/2 nights stay at Nature Lodge and cane back pretty happy about it. If you’re looking for a real “jungle adventure” this won’t be it but it’s a pretty nice way to get closer to the wild but still being comfortable. Lodging is very nice in the little bungalows: super clean, AC and hot water in completely renovated en-suite bathroom. Food was served buffet-style and was tasty and plentiful. It’s not gastronomic food but it’s more than decent and the employees were nice and helpful. The reason to get here is of course to see the wild animals and we got our money’s worth on both the river cruises and night walks in the surroundings forest. Saw a few orang-outangs, some Proboscis monkeys, lots of macaques (these 2 last were even seen on the premises of the Lodge on 2 occasions), some cute and weird insects, frogs, birds like Hornbills, eagles, kingfishers, and small animals like lemurs . The night walks were very interesting to us and don’t be too afraid of leeches or mosquitoes unless it’s been really rainy. We didn’t have any issues with them. Most of what you’ll see will be from a distance so it’s worth bringing or renting binoculars on the spot and/or having a powerful zoom lens on your camera. The only viable pics you’ll get with an IPhone will be of macaques who tend to come closer to humans. Our guide, Mohammad, was keen at spotting everything in the forest as well as from the boat. He was also quite amusing, we loved this guy ! Don’t forget to tip the guides cause they will spend lots of time with you. If you want some feeling of the wildlife while still getting some comfort, this the perfect spot. It’s not a tourist trap but it is set up for tourists and the relatively high price was worth it for us. Note that you will be taken to the lodge by AC comfortable van, not by boat. The boat only leaves the Lodge 2 times a day for morning and end of day cruises on the Kinabatangan River (round trip upstream or downstream last about 90-120 minutes) Very happy we visited this place. Suitable for children and older people with mobility.…
My husband and I stayed at Nature Lodge (in a private chalet) for their 3D2N package. It was the perfect amount of time to explore the river, jungle (day and night) and relax in a quiet, picturesque, natural setting. The staff and guides were friendly, knowledgeable, and enthusiastic. There are a number of lodges along the river, and they may offer the same package, but we can vouch for Nature Lodge as a well-run, good value company. Go ahead and book here for a great stay!
