An eco-friendly lodge nestled along the riverbank of Kinabatangan river the longest and biggest river in Sabah. The Lower Kinabatangan is one of Sabah's most splendid natural treasures and the richest concentration of wildlife in South East Asia. The lodge has 12 rooms with an additional twin-sharing handicapped friendly room equipped with air-condition and attached bathroom. Appreciate the "Green" details practise by the lodge where at night all electrical items run on solar power.
Nice setting , friendly staff and adequate accommodation, the weather could not have been helped (we did half of our first river trip in torrential rain) we understand this. However when two parties of 4 guests sharing the same transport from the Lodge the next day , 1 British 1 Italian, request the same trip and are willing to pay the extra to have an early morning trip on the river to be told "No" was very disappointing. We are convinced that it would have been possible as other guests went, a little bit of flexibility with timings (we are only talking about 20 to 30 mins) would have made 8 guests a lot happier and saved the guide we had with us an awful amount of grief from our Italian co travellers.

Enjoyed many river cruises at different times- dawn, day, dusk. Enjoyed the experience and liked the use of solar. Concerned about the advertised lack of air con at night but this was not an issue. Quality of food was good although could have had more heat! We would return. Staff very welcoming. Don't expect internet.

Being tucked away so remotely, I was impressed with the Lodge. I'm not sure exactly how much we paid for it because it was part of a package through borneo nature trails. It was basic but nice. On a side note- I found our tour guide to be intolerable. He was annoying and sexist, and treated it like we were in boys scouts.

I have been fortunate to have stayed in many similar lodges in other countries (some in more remote locations) and this lodge falls near the bottom. A short boat ride brings guests to the lodge which consists of about 15 rooms well spaced in pairs around a central dining area. The area is in secondary forest with a number of lodges located discreetly nearby. The food was good. Organised boat trips take guests up and down the river to view the wildlife - which like any wildlife is unpredictable. We saw a good selection of primates and a few crocodiles. Don't expect to see elephants and other exotic wildlife - if you are lucky you may be surprised, but it's not going to happen everyday. The rooms have aircons which work until 10.30pm when the generator goes off. Solar power runs…

This was the second stop of our honeymoon trip to Malaysia and Indonesia, Even getting there was an adventure with the bus dropping us off at the pier and us clambering into a boat. "Keep your hands in boat, crocodile!" we were advised!! The lodge is rustic, but comfortable nonetheless. The food was really good and there was always a western dish as well as local. The staff were very friendly and helpful. If you're a net junkie, bring a data enabled phone as there is no wi-fi, but who want to read emails in the jungle! The boat trips can be hit and miss, but there are always monkeys, crocs, monitor lizards, hornbills and owls. Highlights though were the kingfishers which I had never seen in the wild before and the night cruise when Jakie, our guide, told the boatman to stop in…

I loved this place , had an amazing time , I decided to travel here by boat and not road as all you would see by road is the palm oil plantations. The views by boat were great got to see a an orangutan with baby before we got there . If you want to stop in one of the better lodges that I saw, a few people when passing dressed for dinner ( your in the rain forest for gods sake ) then go for it , I preferred the rustic nature lodge , wasn't to busy and had a boat with four of us to ourselves every trip . The boat guys are amazing and spot things that you don't see . We were lucky enough to see everything all the big 5 as they call them . Did the jungle and village walk , didn't like the jungle as 2 many creepy crawlers for my liking but glad I did it . People at the lodge…

The closeness to the Orangutan Reserve is the main attraction. We found the resort crowded and the staff overworked. The resort caters for both up market visitors and backpackers. Here lies the problem, pay top money for a chalet or share a dorm and you all end up in the same place at breakfast/lunch/dinner time. You can guess where the majority of people stay. Nothing against backpackers, I do it myself. However, the resort needs to factor this in for staffing and catering purposes. Breakfast supplies ran out very early.

This is a different world....but a good one...The area is peaceful, the water safari is amazing and the staff are accommodating and wonderful! The cooking is just like home - with a twist and the beverages are very affordable if you want wine with dinner. We simply loved our stay - and our boat driver - wonderful!!!!! And we saw elephants! What a paradise!

The staff at the Nature Lodge are friendly and welcoming. Providing good 'home' cooking and catering for the comfort of guests. But you don't stay here here for the accommodation it is the fantastic dawn, dusk and night river cruises where you get the chance to see many different monkey species (including proboscis monkeys) bird and reptile life and if you are lucky wild orang-utan, Slow Loris and pygmy elephants. How the guides can spot a tiny but exquisite kingfisher (only about 10cm),perched a metre above the water from one side of the river to the other in the dark is unbelievable but they do.
