Amazing location and views. Big clean room with aircon and very comfy bed. Great rooftop terrace. Friendly staff. Breakfast is limited toast and coffee but still good enough to start your off and plenty of cafes nearby. Don't hesitate just book, you won't regret it.

The staff was welcoming and friendly, and very helpful! It was clean, with free breakfast coffee/tea. The chill out area on the roof was nice. One of my favourite hostels I stayed in 100% recommend this hostel.

Absolutely loved this hostel. Rooms and bathrooms were always clean and the breakfast was good. This was made even better by John and Audrey who always remember your name and are always happy to help with anything! We will definitely go back if we return to sandakan.

The staff/owners are super friendly! Great place to meet other backpackers. Breakfast was included (coffee, tea, fruit, toast). Dorm rooms available. Clean showers/bathrooms. Staff helped organize trips, taxis and were cool about letting you use the computer to book flights, etc. Great chill out area to watch movies or lounge on the top floor to watch sunset. Recommend trying out the fresh sea food market, but all the local area restaurants are great!

Stayed here for 1 night because people I met told me to go here for the tours they offer. And people are right, the tours to Kinabatang river they offer are amazing and they are very helpful in arranging the tour perfectly to your preference. The staff of the hostel is very nice and as said, very helpful!! I liked the fact that the remembered my name. After the tour I stayed there again and when I came up to the reception they greeted me by name and gave me the same room/bed as before and made my stay even better! Can't say it enough... book there tour to Kinabatang river!

I am only sign up to this page to write this review: When backpacking for some time, after you have seen a lot and been to many different places, there is this sudden urge to stay somewhere relaxed that does not give you more impressions but rather some quiet moments to process. For me, Sandakan was exactly that. I was traveling with a friend, that was going to many adventures in the area like Kinabatangan and so forth, so there definitely is also there are also many things to discover if you feel like that. I just enjoyed staying in Sandakan and have a nice time with Za and Zu, that are probably the coolest and nicest people I have met on my entire trip. They do not only care amazingly for their guests, they also have an amazing approach towards the environment and have dreams

Zu and Za (the Hosts) were so amazing and welcoming! The place felt very clean and well maintained. It has a relaxed and comfortable vibe which makes it feel very homely. The free breakfast included an array of Zu's favourite fruits along with coffee, tea and toast with all the jams you can imagine! The backpackers is right in the heart of town so getting around is easy. Zu also recommended some much cheaper options for wildlife tours which are run by the locals which we ended up doing! Cant go wrong with Hospitality, location, price and amenities! Will hopefully be back soon!

Za and Zu are two great people and good hosts! They run a very clean, cosy and relaxed kind of backpackers hostel. Movie nights whenever you want, tons of fresh fruit included for the breakfast and a environmental friendly approach make this hostel a great stay in Sandakan. You can also book wildlife trips in the Kinabatangan area with the hosts, which makes it really easy and comfortable.

The owners are really friendly and helpful. The rooms are clean and comfortable. It is close to the shopping malls and right on the seaside. The views are great and there is a roof top terrace to spend some time on. The only problem , more of an issue with the nature of the city of sandakan is that parking is impossible to find so if you have a car you have to park in the nearby mall at a cost of RM 10 per day which isn't so bad but seems abit strange !

I really enjoyed staying at Sandakan Backpackers Hostel, the owner and his wife were very kind and friendly, the accom was simple but very comfortable, the showers were good. there were hammocks on the rooftop which is always a bonus. breakfast was generous with some super fruits on offer. thanks for the snake fruit which i have never tried before! it is in a great location and has a fine view of the harbour. you can't go wrong here - definitely give it a dart!
