Mrs. Lee (the owner) is very helpful & informative : ))

Definitely one of the best guest house I've stayed.

I'm not sure how to review Dillenia without sounding like an advertisement. This is without a doubt my favorite guest house in all of Asia. Seriously, it really is! Mrs. Lee is one of the nicest people you will ever meet. She is genuine in her desire to assist each guest in whatever way possible to ensure a wonderful experience.

As a solo traveler, I found this place ideal for a couple of reasons. For one, there is a large public space with a small kitchen (free breakfast, fresh fruit, free drinking water, etc), reading area, and 2 computers that guests can use anytime. It's very easy to meet other solo travelers (quite a few of us there in March). More importantly, Mrs. Lee is always linking up individual guests and small groups to form bigger groups in order to split the cost of tours and transportation. That is a huge money saver, and something that quite honestly she doesn't have to do. The driver for most tours, Hong is very kind, honest, and knowledgeable. Transport is available to/from the airport, bus station, Brunei and more all at very good prices. Laundry service is also available.

As for the facilities, the rooms are spacious and very clean. Madam Yong and Cassey do a wonderful job of keeping the entire premises spotless. The aircon is strong and the beds are comfortable. The shared bathroom is good sized and well-maintained. Hot water shower is available. The location is convenient, just off the main strip in Miri and close to a very nice park.

Overall, this is the perfect place to relax before and after a trip to Mulu, Niah Caves, or the Highlands. It was a truly pleasant experience. In fact, Dillenia has inspired me to use my years of hotel experience to start a guest house once I return home. And did I mention that Mrs. Lee leaves a handwritten farewell letter on the door for each guest the night before their departure? Come on, where else have you encountered that? Not to mention, the price is right. You might be able to save a few ringgits elsewhere, but I doubt it'd be worth it. This place offers amazing value.

I look forward to the next time I'm in Malaysian Borneo. I will surely find a way to pass through Miri to visit the great people over at Dillenia Guest House.

First of all, the place is very clean.
Secondly, Mrs Lee is the epitome of an excellent host withe people skills and knowledge of what to do around the Miri area. She also takes time to learn guests' names and get to know them better. That is my idea of a perfect guesthouse :)
Only thing that can be improved is that there are only to plugs in a 6 bed dorm which can be quite tricky even if there are only three to a room.
Other than that, excellent stay and would never think of going anywhere else :)

Dillenia is a fake charater guest house. they cheat us on our price over the phone and also guide us on the wrong way track to restaurent and cheat us on a day trip with too high price.
is a shame that this lady are not as real as she said she is. me and two of my girlfriend went to malaysia for travel and visit few friends we met in Australia.

3 of us, one Aussie, other two asian. we found this place on lonely planet book and thought might be ok for us. we call up to make a reservation over night due to our last minute booking we make sure all our booking over the phone are clear and stated recordered as well. so unlucky we didnt record this Mrs Lee conversation over the phone with us of the price. when we arrived and check this place is so horible. we stay in so many guest house this is the worst ever in the world of all places we have been.

first she told us she never said the price she promise on the phone but we (3 of us) heard she said the cheaper price to us, secondly we arrive late with our bus and its pouring rain out there and we couldnt go anywhere els but has to stay in her over priced place. with also we try to make peace and forget out it and try and get out the next day somewhere els... she recomend we stay one more night to give us cheaper price on second. so we did and paid as well. and secodn day she book us in with a day trip do somewhere with PRIVATE CAR DRIVER TO TAKE US. but at the end we were stuck in a small car and SHARE WITH OTHERS!!! FOR 2HRS DRIVE TOTAL 4HRS BACK AND FORTH TRIP!!! OVER PAID AS WELL FOR PRIVATE SERVICE!!! when we check out she told us NEXT TIME MAKE SURE YOU RECORD ALL CONVERSATION OF ALL BOOKING, SO WHAT IF I LIE TO YOU ABOUT YOUR PRICE!! how dare this lady said this to us!! we couldnt belive this is such a bad place to stay in. people like this are not well deserve good things. Mrs Lee you really are RUDE AND BAD LADY. YOU WILL HAVE YOUR KARMA BACK.

We had a fantastic stay with Mrs. Lee. She is super nice ang gave us a lot of very usefull information about Borneo. I have had, thanks to her, the best guide in Mulu... Our room was clean and big and the shared bathroom is clean. The water is warm. Around the corner are very good places to eat.

My experience with Dillenia started on the wrong foot when the owner turned up about half an hour late to let me into the guest house. Thankfully, it was all uphill from there. I stayed both in a private single room and a twin room, both of which were pleasantly clean (clean enough to be comfortable barefooted) and basic. I also enjoyed the fact that those rooms both had windows, though the large glass panels did warm the room up a bit unless you turn the aircon up (greenhouse effect).

The common toilets were very clean (I was somewhat taken by their handsome floor tiles) and somehow kept dry almost every time I visited them.

Aside from that, it's also a plus that the wifi was pretty fast (and free) even from the rooms. The legendary Mrs. Lee written all over other reviews did not disappoint in the hospitality department either.

I'd definitely come back here again if I need a place in Miri.

I can only confirm everything that is written in the previous post.

This location is absolutely amazing! And Mrs. Lee is unbelievably helpfull in everything you ask her.

As we flew into Miri very late (around 2230), she organised a pick-up for us for RM 20.
The next day we intended to go to Lambir Hills National Park. However, as we were on thight schedule we didn't want to take the bus until we get there. Mrs. Lee again offered us a pick-up which also waited for us there and brought us back (RM 40/pax).

And finally, as we were heading towards Bandar Seri Begawan, we again ask here, how to get there best.

There are two options: Either take the public bus (around 0800) or hop on a private car that does somehow a postal service between Miri and BSB. We opted for the second, and we were within 3hrs in BSB (RM 60/pax - almost the same price, as if you take taxi to bus station and then the bus to BSB).

Thank you Mrs. Lee for your help!

Spotlessly clean rooms and bathroom. Mrs Lee is really pleasant and helpful. Free wifi and two internet computers. Soap, shampoo and hairdryer supplied. The usual tea, coffee, toast and fruit included. Lots of good restaurants in easy walking distance. Had a really relaxing stay.

My first time staying @ a guest house on a trip planned by my friend.
We booked a twin room with A/C. Bathroom was shared.
The place is excellent. Clean and cosy.
I felt like home at the instant.
Breakfast is provided, we have help ourselves to it (just like at home) :)
Mrs Lee is very approachable and helpful during our stay at Miri.
Lovely.

We stayed over Chinese New Year and although lots of the city was closed down, Ms. Lee was so helpful during our time here and making travel arrangements to Muru National Park and for our trip onward - all while balancing hosting her own holiday!

This is one of the cleanest guesthouses/hostels we've ever stayed at. Free breakfast (fruit, toast, etc.) every morning with free coffee.

So friendly and hospitable!
