I've never been in a position where I have to write a bad review but I feel it's important to let people who are thinking about staying in your place.
There are a number of things that made this a bad experience:
1. The photos of the property are not realistic.
2. The smell in our room was very bad outside and in the bathroom. We asked if it was possible to change the room and the owner said she would look, and then told us this was not possible even though we could see there were a lot of rooms available.
3. Whilst the rooms were the cheapest in the area, the restaurant and the activities such as snorkeling were very expensive and you can find better value at the other places.
4.We had a very difficult time booking our snorkeling trip. The cost of the snorkeling was 75rd ( you can do this for 50rd everywhere else). When we asked for the fins she said that they dont have to give us the fins because that is not included in the price( everywhere else it is) . When we complained about this because we where the only people without fins the wife of the owner became very angry with us, she started shouting at us in front of everyone and threw the fins at us . At this point because we felt uncomfortable we asked for a refund. She then became extremely angry and demanded we leave. So we packed everything to leave but when we asked for the refund she said no and threatened that she would call the police. We decided to wait because we had done nothing wrong. Finally we waited 2 hours and the police never apeared and we decided to leave without the money ( in total almost 400rd ) .
I've been traveling for one year and I 've had no dificulties with the hostels, hotels, guest houses and the people and families that run them, in fact totally the opposite.
This was a very horrible experience, and I urge people who are considering this hotel not to stay.

Eco marine. We booked 5 nights here and firstly, there is nothing on Expedia when you book saying there are no ATM’s or facilities to get money out on either of the islands. We were also told that their eftpos machine ‘wasn’t working’ so after a great deal of stress we had to arrange to swap euros at an average rate (but only enough for 430 ringgit). This place is badly managed, dirty, in need of some serious repairs and the exact opposite of well maintained. It is also almost the exact opposite of ‘eco’ with rubbish strewn all over the grounds, beach and in the water just in front of the ‘resort’. On our last day some locals and kids made a huge fire burning plastic and rubbish which filled the whole area with toxic stench. We also were not advised while booking or after booking that we would be coming in the off season which meant that the whole island was practically closed and the facilities were even more reduced than the standard. When we arrived, we were told there was other places to eat which was untrue because the only ways we could get food was at eco marine’s basic and disappointing little restaurant and from the shops on the smaller island we had to pay 50 ringgit to get to, despite the fact that all the other guests were going on the boat too. A lot of items on their menu were also unavailable leaving us to repeat eat the same dishes. The location is amazing and the people there (only 2 plus a grumpy cook) could barely speak English but tried very hard which made us feel very guilty about having any problems with the place at all because it’s obviously not their fault, they are only employed and paid poorly to almost single handedly manage our experience. Considering when we arrived we were the booked only guests, the room had mouse or rat poo in it, floors were filthy and there was even a fossilised dead frog behind the curtains. The day after we arrived we were told we could do a snorkeling tour and my partner asked if it was free or we had to pay. He was told it was free but later we had to pay 165 ringgit for it. We understand that it is hard to maintain a place on an island in the off season but we were given absolutely no warning that it would be completely different to how it was advertised, especially given the fact that Expedia showed the other resorts as ‘full’ not closed. The distance to the beach and the wildlife are really the best parts of staying here. I don’t recommend it to anyone that is looking for a fancier style resort because this place is a cheap, badly run, glorified crappy hostel which we couldn’t have anticipated from the price. We paid about $60 AUD a night to stay here and considering we were practically the only guests besides another couple that didn’t stay long and a French guy that also didn’t stay long, they could have done a LOT more to get the place into a reasonable condition for us. There is also nowhere to get alcohol on the off season whatsoever, so if you want drinks on the beach kind of holiday, beware. They also routinely switched off the generator for long periods of time without any notice. I think they were having problems with it, but on our second last day it was switched off without any warning at about 8.30am while we were still in bed meaning no fan, no wifi and no warm water to have a shower in. After a few hours of not seeing our ‘host’ I went and asked him what was the problem with the power. He said the generator had a ‘problem’ and wouldn’t be back on until the evening. He had nothing else to say or any apologies, told me he forgot to tell us even though we are the only guests here. On our last day we didn’t have power from 9-12 and from 2-6pm. We also spent more than the price of the room on eating there because it was the only place to get food, and we were caught with sneaky little mark ups like when they ran out of big bottles of water and proceeded to charge us more for 2 smaller bottles even though it was the only drinking water available. All in all, we made the most of our time here and kept an open mind and tried to be as flexible as possible despite the awful conditions because we had already paid in full and there wasn’t anywhere else to go except back to the mainland. I don’t recommend staying here to ANYONE. I recommend avoiding this place like the plague!

I stayed in this hotel for 2 nights in July and booked the room via booking.com. At check out, i paid my room fee by cash but somehow, they changed to my credit card in November. I called them and they said they would check. Then I’ve sent an email asking for the reason and expected for an apology but all the answers are “if you think the charge was double, you can ask the bank to void it. I can’t void it from my side”. What kind of hotel is that? It’s shouldn’t be called a hotel, resort or even hostel

I guess you've gotten back your money right? It is because you called the bank. If we are a financial institution which issued your credit card and we have the system to reverse the charge we surely have done it after we answered your phone call previously. If you dont think we should be called a hotel, resort or even hostel, let me ask you to book Hilton hotel, then you do the same thing and asked them to reverse charge...even we are a small resort, does not mean it gives you the right to look down on us...speak your words with profundity not with emotion

I knew this resort thru my relative. I didn’t read the review before and now I’m shocked when I read those review after my stayed. It was totally different from my own experience.

First of all, thank you of hosting me and my family (from KL) with 3D2N trip, we had two sea-view rooms accommodated for 3 adults and my 13 yo twins girl. Our package included two-ways boat transfer, snorkelling, 3D2N meals which included 1 BBQ buffet dinner.

When we arrived jetty, resort staff already waited there for us and assist us brought our belongings to the resort.

Our rooms are equipped with aircond and water heater. The down side here is the water pressure is too low. Other than that the rooms are clean and bed are comfortable, we had a very good nights there! Overall the accommodation was above expectations.

Staffs there are friendly and all the meals provided are special and delicious, especially curry chicken, fried egg (must try)…
The impeccable service and hospitality of the staff made our retreat most enjoyable. We were very impressed by their responsiveness.

We are lucky met owner during our stay. This couple are so lovely, friendly and kind. Most important both of them with no airs and graces.

Our family are very happy and enjoyed this trip and definitely we will intro this to our friends and family in KL.

Response from eco marine perhentian, Guest Services / Front Office at Empire Hotels & Resorts
Responded 14 Apr 2024
Dear Mr Alex, We are very happy to finally getting a real review about us from TripAdvisor. Yes, reviews here are being given by some irresponsible guests who did not get special treatment during their stay or they wanted to not pay tourism tax or such so they release their anger here so that we wont be rated high in the market of Perhentian However, thanks a lot to your honest revirw we are able to bounce back and there is a guest who is telling the truth about us. The time has come. We are sorry about the low water pressure and due to this feedback we are now in the process to do necessary action to overcome this problem. Looking forward for you next stay with us and especially after we have completed our new room soon. Thank you very much. Kind regards, Jane The Owner

This rathole cannot be called a resort. The rooms were dirty, it was expensive, nothing was included and the staff was unfriendly. We wanted to leave early and of course didn't get any money back but they didn't eben want to give us our deposit back which was 20 Euros without a key!!!!! The toilets were dirty I have never Seen toilets like that before and I'm not picky. I can only recommend to spend maybe one or two Euros more at another place because this "resort" should not be Supported!

This place is the worst place I've ever been to. If you think basic, think lower. It is dirty (rubbish all around the hut), unsafe (window cannot be locked, no door knob, electrical wires coming out of the wall in the wet area / shower... you might get electrocuted!). No towels provided. No blanket covers provided. No toilet paper provided. Filthy and unhygienic. No privacy (Curtains fully transparent). The place looked NOTHING like on the picture above. Receptionist and owner did not want to listen to our complaints, let alone giving a refund. Worst place ever. Don't go there!!!

We have arrived eco marines on 7 July 2017. Our group arrived was arrived early on 1500 on 7 July 2017. I was spoke with owner property that allowed first our group to enter the room, because I have other thing need to settle first. The owner agreed. Then when I'm arrived at eco marines at 16.00, our group still outside. The owner property, Pn Jannah said that they need to count all people who are stay and payment must be made. After payment was made and the people was counted, the room still not ready. Then we complaint why still cannot enter the room. The owner said the room still not ready and that time was already 1700. Because of misunderstanding, the owner not allowed us to enter the room and they cancelled our booking and asked us to find another stay.
Bad Service, Bad accommodation, poor facilities. Not recommended.
