My girlfriend Carla and me stayed two nights in Bayu Dive Lodge and really liked and enjoyed the peaceful and relaxed atmosphere. The employees are very friendly and helpful no matter what question or problem comes up. If you are searching for a place to disconnect and enjoy the beach/nature, then you are definitely on the right address. PS: During our stay, Bayu Dive Lodge did not offer diving due to the just recently eased covid restrictions. Therefore, I can not say something about this topic :)

This was my 2nd trip to Perhentians and the 2nd time I chose to stay at Bayu Dive Lodge. This was mainly because the location is quite peaceful and the prices are reasonable, and this outweighs the fairly basic nature of the facilities. During my stay there were issues with the generator, so aircon was only available for limited hours. This didn't really affect me though as I was out diving for most of the day. The dive outfit located at the lodge is excellent and that is another compelling reason to stay here. Wifi is really bad here so it's worth considering a strategy to deal with that. Breakfast is basic and restaurant food is average. Location is at the beach front.

I stayed 4 days in Bayu. It has a great location just next to the beach. The food was Ok, but you can easily get more choices from other places next to Bayu. The best thing in Bayu is Diving sessions with Maikel and Colinda. Very affordable prices with great service compared to the other centers. They are Dutch couple, so you won't face any language barrier, No problema¡ Maikel teached me how to dive, gave me good attention in 1 to 1 session and he made sure that I learn and enjoy every time. I really like them when they come from each dive and start to talk about the fish they saw and what they did, they get so excited about it like it is their first time. They love what they do. If you are new to diving, then I highly recommend Maikel and Colinda, because you need to dive with someone you trust and you feel comfortable with 😊 And if you are an expert, then you will get the best diving buddies in Perhentian Island 🏝️😉 It was a pleasant journey with both them. Thank you guys.

Stayed in the garden cottage style chalet with air con unit for 4 nights. Loved the location on the beach and loved staying in our little chalet. Definitely needed the air con as it got extremely hot. Great little terrace to sit on and while away time in the evening. Chalet in well maintained gardens and 30 seconds onto beach and reception area. Dining here also but we thought food was overpriced in relation to café next door where we ate most of the time. Breakfast was included in our package, basic with not a lot of choice but adequate during our stay. Very helpful and friendly staff especially Manii who gave us lots of advice during our stay as for best snorkelling, walks etc. We had to pay RM 100 upfront as a deposit for the air con remote control but got this back on the last day of our stay. The chalet was very clean and the bathroom was very clean and simple with a good little electric shower. Would definitely return. We also liked that side of the island - Fauna Bay, although sea was not as clear as in some places around the island, it's so easy to get anywhere either by walking the jungle trails and water taxis.

Upon arrival we received a welcome drink, we paid deposit and got this back later. The room was better than we expected, the room was clean and there was a broom that we could use ourselves if we needed to. There was wifi, it was a weak connection but it worked. The food at the restaurant was good, for the free breakfast we got a few items that we could choose from, I chose the chocolate waffles every day and my friend had the pancakes which was also very tasty. The staff was super nice and really went out of their way to try to help you. The staff helped us get a water taxi every time we wanted to see a different part of the island. They also helped us on the last day when we were already checked out. The company that we booked a jetty with to get to the island never showed up and the staff of the lodge kept calling the company to come pick us up, in the end they arranged for us to join another company's jetty and still get off the island. I would most definitely recommend booking here.

Booked the standard fan chalet room on agoda. Cheapest option at about 105 rinngat per night incl breakfast. Was pleased to find it exceeded our expectations. The room was really just a room, wouldnt really call it a chalet, coz that conjures up notions of a stand alone hut. But it was adequate. The fan was sufficuent to give a cool night sleep. Staff were polite. Breakfast was a few choices. Nothing fancy, but adequate. Overall a nice stay, but when comparing it to islands we have toured in thailand its not on the radar. But nice enough for a chilled out stay... Remember... No atm on islands... Bring cash......

The chalets are well situated in a very nice garden. The people there were very kind and helpful. However the confort is somehow rudementary. The hot water was not possible to regulate and the room is very hot (no isolation and made of "thin" wood) so that you have to run constantly the air cond if you want to have a fresh room which is not very ecological. All in all it was however a very good stay.

We booked a beach hut, first in the row, for 350RM per night. We knew it's gonna be basic and the first morning, when a mouse ran over my husband's foot at breakfast we didn't even blink. The room was basic, quite tired, but OK. Beakfast blunt at best. The sheet was so old and used that it actually felt hard. Without any comment they gave us new sheet when we asked for a new one, were really polite about it. So no hard feelings there.... On the 4th night my husband watched the footbal finals so I went to bed alone. In the bathroom there she was, the mother of all cockroaches. 4-5 cm. No biggie. The staff gave me moskito spray that did the job. I sprayed around, a few more droped dead from the craks. And I thought that'd be it. next nigt, I was asleep already as my husband jumped out of bed. In the middle of the bed, there it was, a huge cockroach that climbed on my husband's leg. We chased it around unsucssessfully. I hardly slept that night since we travel with a 5 yrs old son and I didn' want cockroaches all over him. So next morning I asked the staff to really spray and clean. In vain. (Luckily) our last night on the island, I want to brush my teeth and there it was. Another 4-5 cm huge cockrach. That night I lost it. I complained and wanted to talk to the manager. I heard 3 diffrent stories about cockraches from diffrent staff. But this time I was determined that I am not payting so much money to sleep with cockraches. Hardly got any sleep that night as well. next morning the manager changed the story, apologised and gave us soem discount. So all in all we left with OK feelings, but Perhentian islands were a nightmare for us. The place is totally overpriced, the beach on this part was often dirty (dark-green&brown smelly stain cming from Arwana resort, huge sewage pipe on the beach....). We were happy to leave and are not coming back, not to Bayu Dive Lodge, that's for sure....

Location was good, but on the beach, like everything else. Food was sub standard, so we only ate there a couple of times. Room was ok, but bathroom always smelt rather funny. Visibility whilst diving was poor but water was warm. Shallow quite far out so it take a while before you reach a depth where you can actually snorkel. like much ot SE Asia, Malaysia hasn't realised that if you look after the environment then you can make more tourist dollars, and it shows. Everything aimed at backpackers and hedonists, who invariably don't spend much money. Both diving instructors smoked...! Cost a bit more than expected and exchange rate on the island wasn't competitive.

We took the Garden view room with A/C and hot water shower for 3 nights. You get your little hut which was nice. Besides the simple breakfast, one lunch on the first day was enough for us. We are Asians and ordered mainly Asian dishes. Food was average and portions were disappointing to us. We had problems dealing with the receptionist throughout and he seems to be either oblivious or dumb to our questions. We had to clarify with him multiple times yet it is still wrong. We found dealing with the local staff much more easy! For same amount of money, go eat at the restaurant beside it. Just go where the crowd is! The food is great...we ended eating there all the time when in Besar. The beach is definitely better over at north side of Besar and at PIR which we spend most of our beach time.
