We were overwhelmed by the beauty of the island when we arrived. Its not far to walk to the chalets. As an honest reviewer I can say that the place isn't 5 star but has all the basic amenities that's needed. The room we had was above the restaurant and the view was amazing. If people are drinking into the wee hours and are noisy you can easily hear them, bit it didn't affect us. The rooms were clean and most importantly has Aircon and fan and fridge. The shower has plenty of hot water. We had all three meals included which were mostly Asian and were all very delicious. The lady who runs the place is extremely friendly, speaks 3xcellent English and no request was ever too much. We will definitely visit again and my only wish is for them to have more variety of alcoholic drinks, especially cocktails. Thank you for a wonderful stay.…
We book Cozy Chalet from a travel agent, with an all-inclusive package of 3D2N, including meals and trips to nearby snorkelling areas and reefs. It came to about RM450 per person, which is quite a good deal as we went there during a public holiday. Please bear in mind that New Cocohut is no longer operating here, only Cozy Chalet (they are closed due to the MCO period in Malaysia). Pros: The location here is perfect, as it is near to the Marine Park. Head up further and there are walkways from the Marine Park to other beaches like Teluk Keke. The rooms are newly renovated, clean, and the air-cond is a blessing (weather can be very hot even when it's cloudy). The service is very attentive and friendly. I left my cap during the snorkelling trip and the front desk helped me to get it back! Fruit juices here are cheaper than the rest of the other resorts, quite good too. Cons: The beach in front of Cozy Chalet has no beach chairs, and I found out they were stowed away up on a hill. I have no idea why, but it will be better if they can find a way to get them down and place them on the beach for visitors. Food is very filling, but the taste can be better (hiring a better cook will definitely do it). When we were here, the wifi was down (mobile connection is bad at the island, so even if you have data it won't work), so we had to go over to the nearby Tunabay restaurant, order drinks and use the wifi. Also, the place isn't disabled-friendly as you'll have to climb stairs to reach your chalet (the chalets are built on a hill). If you're looking for a budget place to stay on Perhentian Besar with your family and near to other beaches here, this is it. Do ask for a chalet or room that faces the sea, it will make your experience much more enjoyable.…
the room was dirty, they did not tidy up our room in the morning, the first night the shower was cold.. the staff is kind but the resort definely needs a restyling. we stayed there 2 nights, it was enough!
Upon arrival we expressed our worries with the room which was far from the standard shown in the pictures on the booking page that we used. The staff showed us a few other rooms - but all in same condition. We payed approx 1750 RM for 4 nights, which is quite pricey. Therefore we expected a room that was at least maintained. However there were drill-holes in the walls, water damage, partly broken stuff (water tap) and very bad cleaning. We expressed our disappointment and the staff said that the booking web page was trying to promote the place. Therefore we contacted the booking page to get either a discount or another accomodation (since it was not living up to the pictures or the price). They could however inform us, that it is always the accomodations who provide information and pictures. We told the whole story and sent pictures to the booking web page. They contacted the accomodations main office in Kuala Besut. They agreed to a 50% refund so that we could move to another accomodation for the last two nights. The manager on the island either acted like or did not understand English very well which made the process very troublesome. He was in general rude and did not want to help. We moved to the other accomodation and had to come back for the refund. I insisted on a receipt with a signature that we would get the 50% refund. They however denied to give that. It took about half an hour of discussion and waiting to get that..... Very bad service from the manager. We were first informed that we would get the refund in cash but later it was changed since they "did not have cash". They later informed us that we would get the refund trough the Booking page. The booking page however told us that it of course was the accomodation who had to do the refund since they received the money (which makes sense). The accomodation kept denying that. The booking page took further action and called the main office again to ask what was happening since they already agreed to a 50% refund (last two nights). According to the booking page the main office just hung up on them. It all ended up with the booking page refunding us and who knows if they got their money back from cocohut? It is definitely possible to stay in the huts. It is just not as nice as the promoted pictures at all - and quite dirty and overpriced. Don't expect good service from the manager (the rest of the staff was however friendly). Boring breakfast.…
Room is ok. The walkway from the beach to the hotel is dark at nights, no streetlamps. The path is under maintenance as there is an ongoing construction at the resort. Girls are not advisable to walk alone during the day as you need to pass by the construction with lots of the male construction workers around. During my check in, the staff didn't inform that we have breakfasts provided. we only knew during checkout by one helpful staff.
We had a small lunch there, the price is ok not so expensive, the food is just normal, and my burger a little bit too small. It's also a place you can get a decent WiFi. Event from the beach next to restaurant it's working.
The good: Reception staff are helpful & authentic, and the (dark, but AC equipped) rooms are perfectly adequate for a small family. And it’s pretty affordable. Not so good: the food is awful; v sloppy and about as poor as we experienced anywhere in the Perhentians. Further, the restaurant staff are slow and disinterested, so do not expect anything other that bad customer service. The beach area is nice enough, but take beach shoes as there is a lot of sharp coral both on the beach and in the water. Snorkelling is difficult as there isn’t sufficient water depth clearance above the corals. If you choose to stay here, I recommend that you dine up the beach at the Tuna Bay resort, and that you consider taking water taxis for day trips away from this ‘resort’. On balance we would not return to the New Coconut resort.…
When we found something wrong and want to check with the receptionist to raise up our concern, she was showing her impatient face and providing us a terrible service. Hope the resort owner will look into it.
We only stayed for one night in the Cozy Chalet’s and that was one night too many. The Chalets are anything but cozy, they are grim, everything brown, dirty smelly bathroom, shower looked dangerous, mouldy fridge, duvets with no cover or sheet on them so just horrid. Breakfast was very limited and very poor, everything had run out and the limited offerings weren’t replaced. The beach is nothing special at all with about three foot of sharp broken coral at the waters edge.
We were supposed to stay at this hotel but were transferred to its sister hotel (Cocohut Long Beach) on the island opposite - Perhentian Kecil. The Cocohut on Perhentian Kecil might be ok for a couple of nights for backpackers but it is nothing like the hotel on Perhentian Besar. First, no one picked us up from the jetty so we had to find the hotel ourselves. We walked along the beach for about 400 metres and then had to walk up a further 250 metres from the beach along a rubbish-strewn path. The dining area for breakfast, lunch etc., is bare - it looks half-finished - and the breakfast buffet is minimal - some white bread with jam, some limited fruit options, tepid coffee, etc. The rooms themselves are large and ok. However, the bathrooms were infested with ants. I suppose that it is not easy to keep them 100% clean on an island like this but we did not have similar problems in other hotels on the islands. The staff at the reception were kind enough. I feel sorry for them having to work in this environment. It is only because of them that I don't give one star to the Cocohut on Perhentian Kecil. On the other hand, the staff for the breakfast buffet don't seem to know what to do. So, don't confuse the new cocohut on Perhentian Besar with its sister hotel with a very similar name on Perhentian Kecil. We thought they were the same. But there is a big difference. Insist on staying at the new cocohut on Perhentian Besar.…
