Hımmm.. I rated it as "average" because it is very difficult to review this place because it depends on the person if it is wonderful or terrible:)

Wonderful because: The island itself is a paradise on earth and the beach where Fauna Beach Chalet is, is one of the best beaches of the island. Not great for swimming, because only morning time the sea is high but afternoon impossible to swim as the sea is very low, but the view and the athmosphere is the best on the island. Because there is only 3 other resorts on this beach: Flora which is just next door, Arwana at the one end of the beach, and Everfresh I guess is on the other end. So great privacy, and very calm and quiet, a real island athmosphere. But if you want to party, you want night life, or any kind of attraction, it is absolutely wrong place for you. You should be on the Long Beach. BUt again you can go to any other beach with water taxi whenever you want.

WE especially wanted a place really primitif and really basic, just in the heart of the nature. We asked for a place without swimming pool, without bar etc, because we really wanted to feel that we are really in a tropical island. If you think like us, this is the perfect place for you. So for me, it was the best days of my life and wanted to stay there forever.

I should tell that I am normally a very difficult person who wants everything to be perfectly clean, a little bit crazy about hygiene etc but there I forgot everything and became happy with what I have on the hand! The island made a magical touch to me:) Everything that would drive me crazy in normal life, made me feel in nature there and made me happy, and I said: "hımm, this is the island life:)" This is important, because you should ask yourself if you can change like that or no.

If no, ithis place is terrible for you because: The bungalows are really really very primitif, very basic, some of them don't even have hot water and aircondition, some of them have not even electric plug sockets to charge your batteries etc. The bathroom is terrible, no shower cabin, not even a curtain, so everytime you take a shower, everywhere is wet, etc... Not very clean (because you are literlly on the beach!), not hygenic etc... If you want any kind of luxury, you should directly run away from here! YOu can hate every minute you will pass there! There are much more civilised and luxury places on this island on the other beaches.

But for me, I would prefer to stay there again, after seeing all the other beaches and resorts on the island because of its location and its feeling of primitif, tropical island. So its really up to you to decide is it a paradise or a nightmare for you. I added lots of photo also to help you to decide.

If you decide to stay there, you should absolutely ask for a room in the first row which is directly facing the sea, then it woths to everything. (You can see on my photos.) And try to ask for a room with aircondition: Aircondition is not important to me but these rooms are a little bit higher in standarts: they have hot water, a small fridge and plugs:)

And before finishing I should tell that the Restaurant of Fauna is the best on the beach, everybody from other hotels are coming there, because whatever they make, they make it very tasty and yummy:) But again primitif tables, primitif chairs etc. (see pictures) and a terrible service: you should wait for at least 1 hour when you order a meal but again smile: this is the island life:)

I hope all these info will be helpfull, because before going there I searched desperately any review about this place. And now after coming back, I am happy even while looking to photos and already started to dream about going there again:)

1. Basic fan room with attached bathroom cost me RM60/night
2. Located on the quieter side of the island(Pulau Perhentian Besar)
3. Very relaxing stay. Not a tourist trap like Perhentian Kecil.
4. Restaurants are available along the beach. Be informed it is quite pricey. And, no beer.
5. Beach overall are well maintained by the staff.
6. There is a hammock where you can watch the sunrise.
7. Bathroom are clean but there is old moldy tiles.
8. Ants, but not a deal breaker. Duhh...would you allow ants to ruin your vacation? Come on....
9. Equipment rentals, snorkerling trips operators and diving operators can be found along the beach...

Stayed here in May 2011, perfect beach, soft sand and blueish water infront our door. We pick fan room because it is the cheapest available... the room is very basic, double bed, cupboard to store your bags, dressing table and 2 chairs outside our room to enjoy the wind and view at anytime.

The room is clean, but as a normal front beach chalet, you cannot help the sand coming in to your room. they do provide broom to wide those sands. The also a tap in front each room to clean your feet before entering room.

they have restaurant, quite good. like their fried rice and barbecue (fresh seafood). they also have wide range of food serve for ala carte menu... the foods also nicely priced, very reasonable.

BUT, if I coming back here I definitely take the aircond room.

I went there with a package of 3D2N snorkeling rip. quite disappointed when I stayed there. Firstly, the room is terrible. The floor have ants and the water in the toilet is not clean. I have to bath with those coloured water and the worms.. Sometimes, there will have water shortage too. Besides, the food there is not good. The worst part is when I went to marine park, there are only 2 choices of food which are rice and curry without drinks provided. Izit called buffet? no drinks! But the staff service is okay. There is no second time for me to come here again !

If you are on a budget holiday, Fauna Chalet might suit you. However, please take note of the conditions:-

The rooms are pretty old with minimal maintenance. Expect ants and cockroaches in the room and/or bathroom. The bathroom had no ventilation and smells like sewage. The shower doesn’t work because the water pressure is too low, plus, saw mosquito larvae in water.

The beach is peaceful and quiet during the day and night, not much activities going at nighttime.

Other than that, the food at the restaurant is good and we were well-taken care during the snorkeling and island hopping trips; the crew put your safety first!

Where to start, when we booked fauna the reviews on trip advisor were good - all i can say is that it must have dramatically declined. the staff were rude, in reception and in the cafe (the tables were never cleared). The rooms were sub standard with driping air con and a 1950's feel. the bathroom (if you can call it that) was horrid. such a shame as with a little thought, and the prime positioning on the beach, it could be so much more.

On the plus side, the beach is amazing - the snorkiling is also very good (go with flora - the gear was much newer for the same price).

Good places to eat - b-first. lovely atmosphere and you can buy a beer without guilt! Beware the long waiting times for food though - Well worth it but make sure you're not starving when you turn up.

If i had my time again id shop around more - probably say with flora, but definetly not fauna - very disappointing.

Having stayed on 3 different resorts on Perhentian Besar I feel qualified to offer a pretty fair judgement of this one, which was definitely the least appealing. The beach on which it's situated is dirtier than the beaches over the other side of Besar and many of the resorts there are also strewn with litter. After 3 nights at Fauna, paying RM270 for an aircon room with rather weak aircon and putting up with rubbish and bins that were never emptied we were pleased to see the back of it. Staff didn't have much of a prescence. When I spoke to the other resorts they said that the dirty resorts tended to be the ones that weren't owner-managed. The actual grounds at Fauna be lovely - there are Frangipani trees and nice shrubbery - just need to clean the place up and offer some service. The room was fine but toilet smelt of sewage.

We loved staying here, at first we thought too basic but we stayed a week and had everything we needed. It's so hot a cold shower from a hose is all we needed, we don't like aircon so the fan was enough. It was home to us. Food wasn't good but at trip through the jungle was an adventure to have a good lunch. We did the dive course at Fauna which we highly recommend, fabulous people and great teaches. Very safe and local.....if you want posh this is not for you.

tho i gave this chalet an average rating, does not mean Fauna Beach Chalet (FBC) have nothing to offer.

The accommodation is very simple with attached bathroom and basic amenities. Well suits for our low budget accommodation. Why you need a decent room when you are about to fully occupy yourself in island?

well it is enough for me to have a place to sleep, shower and have clean place to rest. The room is clean, the bed sheet changed every occupancy, they have aircond room and fan room. Yours to choose

The owner here is a local guy with his family working for him and they are very helpful, be nice to them and you will be surprised how friendly they are.

The food here are good and cheap compare to other place such as Long beach, coral bay and others.

This place is good for family members and anyone who looking for quite and peaceful beach.

This is my 1st visit to an island for a snorkeling trip with husband.booked a package for 3D2N,full package with return boat transfer, 2bfast,2lunch,1dinner,1bbq for our last night at the chalet.the price is affordable and kinda reasonable.rm280 per person, since the room is without aircond.thats THE BIGGEST MISTAKES.let me share my experience, boat from kuala besut to our chalet takes about 30-45minutes.they drop us not at our chalet.they asked to walk,i thought just nearby.but then,we're sweating walking from arwana to fauna with all the stuff we need to carry out ourself.sigh.disappointed!the room is a super basic with queen size bed, closet, towel, fan.at noon, the room was so warm without aircond.better not stay in the room at noon.the water is smelly plus the toilet.the bedsheet need to change to a new one.got ants on the floor.theres a broom for you to swept the floor.on our last night, theres a cochroaches crawls up to my hubby body while we're sleeping!i was shouting like hell! gosh! they should improve better to repair all those wooden thingy.the staff was great!thanks to them to help me out bring my hubby late evening to the clinic.appreciate it.the environment was nice.they make us feel like families.its just the room need to upgrade a bit.the food is nice.
last but not least,on arrival they gave us life jacket but when return no life jacket and overloaded.kinda scary but we had fun though.
