Perhentian Island Resort is an ideal beach resort for a leisurely family vacation in Malaysia. Surrounded by lush greenery, facing white sandy beaches and a warm blue sea, Perhentian Island is a holiday paradise not to be missed. Perhentian Island, or Pulau Perhentian as the locals call it, is well known as a marine paradise and forms a parts of the National Marine Park of Malaysia. In the surrounding areas of Perhentian Island Resort, you will find many things to see and do. Take a jungle trek up the hills under a canopy of large trees, and you might see wild magpies, giant fruit bats or the Nicobar pigeon. Perhentian Island lies along the flight path of this migratory bird. You might also see the harmless monitor lizard or even the unique lutong monkey species. The nearest jungle trail is less than 100 metres away from our resort. Or gather your family and head to the inviting sea for a swim. For those who enjoy snorkelling or scuba diving, the Resort is strategically located, fronting a coral-rich bay. The marine ecosystem of this area is well documented and held in high regards by snorkellers and scuba divers. If you come between June and September, you might get lucky and see giant green turtles laying eggs along the beach. Enjoy your next family holiday at this paradise beach resort, where reality is like a dream.
We got the Hotel booked by an agency as part of a round-trip for a one week beach stay. The beach is magnificent. Nice spot for snorkeling. But the Hotel is badly maintained. I would not stay longer than 2 nights. Service is special and not matching our experiences during the round-trip. Max to be rated with 2 stars. The Pool was not usable. The food was far away from our experiences during the round-trip. The pictures to be found on the Web are from past better times. We only stayed as there is a walking path to other restaurants nearby.

Like a farytale beach. It's pure magic to be there. With clear water so you can see both small sharks, stingrays, turtles and more. 10 stars for the beach and the surondings. All staff are very freindly but the cleaning of the room is poor during our stay and the food was no more then a 3 out of 5.

Mixed feeling : - Fabulous : location, by far the most beautiful location, great long beach, providing diving and snorkeling, beautiful resort, big, enough space versus other resort, tennis and badminton course, buffet and a la carte choices, great snack restaurant on the sea side, try the fabulous Steam boat, they have a fantastic spa, you should absolutely go, everything for a very affordable price. - Less good : no wifi, even if they say they have, sometimes good to be de-connected but at least you should know - Unacceptable : When you spent such high price (very expensive) to go in this resort, you should expect something in accordance and this is not at all in relation with the high price, my best guess is impacted by Covid time as some cottages need to be fully refreshed. Service was not neither as expected. We have booked through the resort travel agency 9 months in advance and specially asked that our two cottages (kids and us) were close together. They have such cottages very convenient. When we arrive, we didn't get the deluxe cottages that we have requested, and our kids were not close by. When entering in the room, there was a drug smell like hell. I have nothing against it in general but it was obviously to much here. The water in the shower were stocked, so all bathroom was flooded !! I have contacted the agency which is located in Jetty where you pick the boat and they didn't want to do anything, claiming that I should discuss to the reception !! They are very proactive to ask you all the money but when paid, then no support at all, just unacceptable. The manager was very friendly and find a partial solution for the next day, we had the room we had booked, but still far from our children, as they are teenagers, it was ok. Then we left and we had booked the transfer from and back to Terrenganu. The driver from Jetty had my name, good organisation apparently, he picked us, as well as with 2 italians, 1h30 minutes drive. What was the surprise that when we arrive, it was... the wrong city, just in the opposite way !!! It was 6:30pm and we had to do now 3 hours to the city but taxi driver didn't want to go !!! We call the agency, who find a driver to one place and then another driver finally back to where they pick us on the way in and we arrive at 11pm, fortunately we call the hotel to advise them, no more restaurant so no dinner for us and children and the agency dare to claim that we should have told the driver !! The driver had our name, reservation was clearly mentioning a return location where we were pick on the way in, just logical, and agency didn't want to recognise their error and just claim that we finally get to destination !!! No compensation at all for this big inconvenience !!! So for future travellers, be careful with this agency, worst I ever seen, not friendly at all or supporting at all, no customer services except when they send message to pay !!! Just unacceptable once again in regards to very expensive price of this resort versus the other resorts. To take into consideration when you book, the resort just close to it, Coral View seems much more professional and very nice experience from people who went there. Food for thoughts. …

Outdated, dirty and poorly managed and maintained. The service is not attentive to details such to check for enough toilet paper or soap to wash (so expect to go ask for these daily). Food is terrible to say the least and the pool is unusable (the water was yellowish and clearly stale!) Hygiene standards are very low, even during the morning buffet you can enjoy seeing staff cleaning their nose with hands just before handling your food … It seemed they are doing a major renovation work on the resort … so before going make sure to get a renovated room if you dare :) The beach is however just perfect for families with small kids. Shallow water, plenty of marine life and loads of sand to play safely!

Beware of this resort. Do not stay here. Terrible terrible terrible. Yes, the beach is incredible but you can use the beach if you stay at other hotels like many others do. This place is a stain on the perhenthian Islands. The web site of this hotel is a phantasy. The place looks nothing like this and the staff are terrible. I stayed on the perhenthian previously at mimpi and it was incredible. I decided to return and stay at this hostel mainly because it is on the beach where turtles can be spotted. What a mistake. The cons seriously outweigh the pros. Forget the fact the accommodation is in a state. The way the hotel treats its guests on transfer and arrival is just beyond belief. Firstly I booked a transfer by land and sea with the resort. I had done this as it is meant to be easier. On arrival no driver. I had to wait in the airport for 20 minutes then a further 30 outside in the boiling heat, Terrible. The resort actually thought this is ok to just wait and the reason was they wanted to wait for another plane and other guests so they could load them into a broken old van. If you are silly enough to stay here do not use their transfer service. You will be disappointed. The hotels excuse was it’s a shared transfer. So beware. If you arrive early you will wait at the airport until the van is full. That could be 5 hours. I should have just taken a taxi. The hotel is just incapable of organising anything and will scrimp and save everywhere. I guess this also explains the state of the hotel and the poor hygiene. On arrival at the port is the next fun to be experienced. They have an old shack that is dirty where you wait (again) for your boat. Dirty and hygiene problems. Flies everywhere. (See the picture) . The boat was the next saga. A total disaster and it took me over 5 hours to get to the resort from the airport. Mimpi done it in 2. This resort has no concept of looking after its guests. Zero. On top of this the staff are rude and unhelpful. When I visited mimpi it was so good. Seamless transfer and an actual focus on the guests. I am a solo traveler. This experience with kids would be appalling. On check in I was clearly confronted with the poor state of the resort. Not just the room but hygiene also. food poisoning is an issue here. Most guests go and eat in other hotels. The rooms are also poor. In fairness the shower worked but it’s in a cubicle with the toilet terrible. 1 star hotel basically. This resort gets a load of bad reviews and some good ones mainly based on the beach. The beach is a 7 min trip from long beach so just stay there and prevent any of the disappointment you will experience. Having visited the PI twice this was the end to my vacation as I found the place magical. What a mistake in picking this resort. It’s not fit to be named as such and is not even on par with a 2 star hotel. The pictures attached show the truth so look at them and take my advice avoid Perhenthian island Hostel, I mean resort.…

The Perhentian Islands are not to skip on your Malaysian holiday. But where to stay, as there is so much choice in accommodations. We chose the Perhentian Island Resort and I will tell you why. But first. Arrival. Of course you know by now that this resort is on the big island, or “Besar” as it is called, which means “big”. You reach this resort by boat from Kuala Besut on the mainland. You disembark on the hotel jetty and it is some 200 meters walking distance to the reception. Check in was swift and we were assigned our room. We booked a beachfront superior room. If you stay here, absolutely choose this type as it is closest to the beach and you overlook the sea from your porch. The room was advertised with photos. And here is the problem. The rooms must have once looked like the photos on the website. But not anymore. It is all pretty worn down. The room has a decent double (or two single) bed. There is a small bench. The bathroom is basic. The water tap in the sink gave no more than a (barely useable) drizzle of water. The shower was warm enough. There is a rainshower that doesn’t work very well die to all the holes being clogged. The other showerhead works a bit better but the water pressure is low. The airconditioning works perfectly well. There is a small refrigerator that also works good. There is a water kettle and coffee/thee facilities. The room is sort of kept clean. Toiletpaper wasn’t re-stocked so we had to get some ourselves at reception. In total, everything has seen better days. You can tell by the paint, the rust, the hole(s) in the window stills, the worn down wooden floor etc. Is this hotel a bad choice then? If you judge it purely by the room, yes. But the main reason to choose this hotel is the location. And that is fantastic. It is at, what is called, “turtle beach”. You can swim right from the beach some 50 meters out and spot sea turtles. All you need is a snorkelset. Of course, all the snorkeltrip boat outfitters know this too and you will see some 10 to 15 boats with some 100 people in the water at the same time looking for a turtle. But there is a line in the water that boats may not cross so you’ll be oke swimming of the beach. We spotted turtles multiple times which was great. And also numerous fish in all colours that you would love to have in your fish tank. So. Mediocore room. Perfect beach, with palmtrees, soft sand, all the way into the water, so no water shoes are needed. The complex has a restaurant where breakfast is served. This is reasonable. The coffee is pretty bad but that goes for many hotels. We had lunch here too. This was not really great but saved us a walk to other restaurants. The place is pretty busy during daytime, but after 10 pm, you won’t see a soul. The staff will be busy watching tv. There is no animation. No bar. No alcohol obtainable. No nothing. The complex is quiet. That may be worth something too. You get to enjoy your porch if you didn’t forget your mosquito repellent. There are quite a lot of animals that can be spotted. We saw several monkeys, monitor lizards, and squirrels that eat peanuts out of your hand. There is a pool that we did not use and which didn’t look very appealing. It didn’t look too well maintained. The same goes for the gardens which could really do with some maintenance. Although there is no ATM on Perhentian, you can charge everything you consume in this hotel to your room, including excursions. But you will need cash also for other places. They can be reached by climbing several stairs to get around a sort of hill. You can go to Long beach on Kecil, the small island, by taxiboat for 15 myr per person. So, all in all, we had a really good stay, but that was mainly because of the beach. The staff is friendly and makes enough effort to make your stay good. If this review was helpfull to you, pleas give a “usefull vote” so I know I was of help to you. Enjoy your stay! -…

This hotel is on a very nice beach but that is a bit everything positive I can say about it! It may have been proper years ago but it's completely un-maintained and it's therefore not nice at all and very bad quality/price value.. Maybe a few rooms with view to the sea (the so called superior) are acceptable, but the overall impression on the resort is : bad, bad, bad..

Price and Value doesn't match at all. The location is beautiful but the maintenance of the resort is poor. Not at all what I call a 3 star rating. I would rate rather 1-2 Stars. For 2-3 nights perhaps OK for the Beach and snorkeling. But definitely not for more. Rooms in the first 2 rows looking better then the others more inner located. Service, ... ???? It could be such a nice 3 Star but looks no interest to go this step. During our round trip in Malaysia booked via Agency we saw much better value and quality.

Definitely not worth the price!! Worst resort I ever been in Perhentian Island!! Their housekeeping is dishonest! They stole my Nike sneaker fm my room. After I realise, I complain to the reception & they said they will check for me. And they return to me the next morning, and claimed that they found it at the porter place??!! Ridiculous!!!! I wear it all the way fm KL to my room, and change it to sandal before I go to the beach, and they claimed that they found it at the porter place?????!!! WTxxxx Do I need to keep my all my belongings n shoes in the safe next time? I dunno what else to say, as they all seems not well trained, keep pushing to others. And their restaurant cannot handle the customer load, not enough seat, no food refill, those who can’t get the seat will need to eat plain meal without dish!! Definitely not worth the price that I paid!! The resort nearby have better service n room.…
