Pro: Nice room & bathroom size with seating toilet.
Location of the standard family room is a very near the beach. It's 1 mins walk to the beach.
Nice shaded area with beach chairs and alfresco dining.
Daily housekeeping with mineral water.
Room comes with a kettle, cups, glasses, mini fridge but no coffee or tea.
Bathroom is supplied with towels (thin ones but clean), body soap, shampoo, hot water heater, bidet & toilet paper.
Water tap outside the room to wash off the sand.
24hr Electricity with 3 changes of generator so, you'll need to restart the ac once the next generator is switched on. Takes less than a minute for the switch.
Cons : Floating jetty is unstable. Not an issue for us but could be for many others.
Upon arrival at the jetty, no one helped with our bags and the jetty is around 100m long especially when we have 6 dive bags to carry.
Food is very expensive compared with other restaurants there. Nasi Goreng is around RM30.
One side of the beach has erosion so, they put up a seawall.
We can hear ppl talking and music from the restaurant past 10pm. Group events (with a small loudspeaker, I think) also ran up to around 10-ish.
Staff aren't the friendliest but not the rudest. The housekeeping girls were nicer.
KL office does not communicate with resort office. I put in my request more than a month before arrival and the resort staff were a little perplexed but the Reception Girl managed to changed the location of rooms for us.
Tip: For food, it might be worth your while to eat at Coral View Island Resort. The local dishes are tasty, good portioning and reasonably priced. The Fried Fish with Herbs, Steamed Seabass with Lemon are really good. We had the clear soup and tomyam, those were good too.
For snorkeling, walk to Coral View Island Resort and go through to the other bay. We snorkeled towards the left from then beach. We spotted plenty blue spotted sting rays, pufferfish, giant clams & parrot fish. We even spotted a black tip shark, a turtle and a small bumphead parrot fish.

You arrive at the very long jetty of the accommodation, it can swing a little when you walk over it, but is well doable. Directly on the Barat the beach is not really good, here are many stones in the sea. But just a 10-minute walk north is the fantastic bay of the Perhentian Islands Resort - it's beautiful there! The check-in was quick and the staff was very friendly. The family room overlooking the sea was spacious, bathroom and toilet separate and there was a balcony with two chairs. The cleanliness was fine, but the large windows of the sliding doors could do with cleaning. Overall, the decor is okay, though not the latest. Air conditioning was good, bottled water was provided once a day for free. Once the sink was blocked, this was quickly fixed by the technician. If you want to shower warm, you have to turn on the switch of the water heater (before the bath) otherwise there is no hot water. Not bad, but remarkable: the large mural above the bed is interestingly attached - with nails from the front through the canvas... All in all okay if you don't want to have beach right on your doorstep. If you want to watch the sun set in the sea at sunset, you can take a water taxi to the other island (in 2024 15 ringite each way, twice as expensive after 7pm).

I definitely recommend the restaurant. The menu is quite varied, from breakfast to dinner, the quality is good and in the evening there is the possibility of eating good quality grilled fish. So much so that we continued to go there even when we moved to another facility to sleep (unfortunately there was no room for all the days we wanted to stay in Besar). The rooms are spartan but clean and decent. Beyond the term resort you must bear in mind that these are bungalows between the beach and the forest, it would also be absurd to expect a resort level as it is usually understood in Europe. And it is also right that the structures are small in order to minimize the impact environmental. The staff is very kind. Furthermore, near the structure there is a kiosk where you can book all the boat excursions you want.

I had an amazing stay at the Barat Perhentian Resort! The resort offers stunning views of the ocean, and the food is really delicious, with plenty of options to choose from. I went diving during my stay, and the ocean was so clean—I saw a variety of sea animals, which made the experience even more memorable.
The room was comfortable, with super cold air conditioning and a fan to keep the space extra cool. I also appreciated the separate toilet and shower, which made things more convenient. The only minor downside is that the sand isn't as white as I expected, but it's a small thing compared to everything else this beautiful resort has to offer. Highly recommend for a relaxing and fun getaway!

My wife and I stayed here for 3 nights and thoroughly enjoyed our stay. The staff were great and gave us an upgrade to an ocean view family room, very comy beds, great air conditioning, free bottled water every day. I realxing 5 minutes walk takes you to an absolutely stunning beach, perfect for swimming and snorkelling... At the hotel the food was excellent and very reasonable priced, we loved every meal! There is an onsite water taxi service that will take you to any of the many beaches on both islands for a small fee... perfect for exploring. FYI for westeners that enjoy a drink with meals etc. The Barat sells beers, Tiger Carlsberg etc. none of the surrounding hotels did... they were strictly soft drinks only. For a reasonably priced hotel I would certainly recommend The Barat.

Barat is a completely classic bathing holiday hotel, where the restaurant serves dishes from all over the world, in reasonable quality and at high prices. We had a standard family room and it worked fine. Perhentian islands are ⁇ not the Robinson Crusoe experience as it probably was 20 years ago - you can walk from hotel to hotel along the coast, and when you go on snorkeling trips you do it in a flotilla of 10-20 boats, so the experience is shared with many others. However, that does not change the fact that the Perhentian islands are an excellent place to snorkel.
Please note that there are no corals on the beach to Barat - here you either have to walk five minutes north or take the slightly challenging path to Tuna Bay where from there are also corals on the beach.
When we were there, the restaurant was extremely challenged in their logistics - we repeatedly experienced waiting for over an hour to get the food, and that we received the food at such large intervals that we actually did not eat together.
The Internet is really bad, which however seems to be general for the whole island.

We are currently staying at this Resort which is comparable to a campsite. The staff is nice but the service is poor, today at lunch there will have been about thirty guests, my boyfriend and I ordered lunch and the dish was brought only to me, he waited an hour (for real) and in the end because he was nervous decided to have it deleted from the bill and we left. We were not apologized for or given a possible discount. I specify for fairness that the food is good but the customer focus is totally missing until you are asked to pay. We tried several restaurants on the island but the barat together with the coral are the ones that offer good quality (considering the low level of food quality and hygiene on the island) at a fair price. Sea view restaurant, quick service. Evening BBQ where you have the opportunity to choose the catch of the day which will be grilled and served with rice. Average price 10-15 euros per person
