We booked at Keranji Resort for 4 nights at 80 € a night (very expensive for a room like this) at the end of October 2023. In my vocabulary Resort is something completely different anyway this is a tree house accommodation which I already experimented in the past but was not called Resort . Air-conditioning was not provided in the description so we knew about it, but there were 2 fans from the II. World War period were did not even worked at our arrival . We were their last and only guests. We arrived at the resort and just from the sea it looked abbandobded. One person waited us and showed us our Hut 1 which supposed to be the most expensive and most pretty. Well honestly it was a tree house very old construction inside was easy furniting a double bed with a net and a small closet. As the jungle is all around the resort it should have a very good condition for the safety of the guests, instead the roof is full of holes so any bugs, dangerous jungle animals could visit you 😬😬. The bathroom is attached but only built with 2 m concrete from the pavement and opened all around so bigger animals could enter easily. Zero safety!! They built a net around the bed saying that it can protect us, it's not really comforting. We travel a lot and never book luxurious rooms or accomodations, and we don't pretend too much but this place offers you worst condition rooms then a backpacker accommodation and doest not guarantee your safety. The owner was not present because end of the season and at our disposal were 5 men as the staff for everything. We saw the kitchen also was totally opened so can imagine that all kind of bugs can access in it. We informed the owner about our worries and told her that all this can't be seen in the pictures of the website and of the pictures she sent me before booking. Certainly if I have seen an open roofed toilet and all of this wild conditions of the room (holes everywhere) we did not book it. I told her that we refuse to stay and decided to leave immediately, she tried to convince us that nothing can happen there is a net around the bed and so on but the room did not meet the requirements of cleaning either. She told us that can't refund at all which certainly was written in the policy but as we were it's last and only guests it would have been kind to refund at least the 50%, but for sure we don't need any compensation for sorry, but preferred our safety the most. She texted me that she had no time to arguing with me and blocked me at WhatsApp, it's completely rude and unprofessional. I absolutely don't reccomend this place AVOID KERANJI RESORT . We returned to TUNA BAY RESORT!

Fantastic place and lovely people! My wife and I, our adult children and their partners had a fantastic stay here for three nights in late August. The accommodation and facilities are simple. but that's exactly what we wanted after the hustle and bustle of Singapore and Johor Bahru. A small team of local guys runs this place, does all the housekeeping and prepares all the (delicious) food, and does it all in a super-relaxed, nothing's a problem, style. Seven of the nine of us are vegetarian, but that didn't faze them at all. There's no alcohol, but they didn't mind us drinking our own, and could not have been more helpful in organising trips and answering our questions. If you're looking for 5-star luxury, this may not be for you, but if you want something basic and authentic, then you'll love it as much as we did.

This place was truly a paradise. It was quiet with wonderful food. If you are looking to sit in a fancy bar overlooking the water, this is not the place. If you want seclusion, to play in crystal clear water, walk only steps to the beach and water, be near the jungle, and share the beach with only a few people (there was only one couple when we were here) then this is the place. I've been to a lot of beaches and this is the most amazing.

We had a very great time here. It‘s a simple and tidy place and the staff is super friendly. From looking at all the other establishments around I think it‘s the best place to stay if you‘d like to disconnect and relax a bit. Food was great as well!

We were looking forward to our stay in Keranji Resort but it didn’t turn out as we had expected. First, the positive: the resort has a wonderful location with its own private beach. Nevertheless, there is not much coral in the direct vicinity so snorkelling near the the resort is not that great. So what is amiss? First, there is no management present in this resort. No one takes the lead, staff is not trained. As such, there is zero customer service. For example, in the restaurant you have tot wait 1.5 hour for your food. When we asked one of the staff members if there was any coral nearby, the answer we got was ‘don’t know’. This reply perfectly illustrates the lack of service. Throughout our stay we felt we were left to our own devices with no one to go to for questions. What’s more, if you are planning an early departure at 8am, you will leave hungry because the restaurant is not open yet. About the restaurant: the food is sub-standard and very much towards western tastebuds. Compared to the mainland the prices are quite steep (for what you get). The cabins are very rundown and basic. It’s was impossible to lock our cabin from the inside. We had rodents often coming in to rummage through our stuff. When we mentioned this to the staff they shrugged and said it was to be expected in an area like this ….. Then, the shared bathrooms….well….I don’t even want to start about that …. beyond dirty. We have lived in Asia for over 10 years but never have we come across such an accommodation that is so subpar. Don’t be fooled by the pictures on their website and think of staying somewhere else instead.

I wrote this article about them on my blog Plantbased Dennis. Looking for the perfect back-to-basic, tropical getaway with the best vegan food on the Perhentian Islands in Malaysia? And do you want to avoid the crowds of tourists and snorkel between beautiful coral reefs right from your private beach? Then definitely go to Keranji Beach. We went for 3 days, but stayed more than a week. There is a good chance that the Perhentian Islands are on your list during your trip through Malaysia. However, you are not the only one who wants to visit this tropical paradise. Makes sense, because (some of) the beaches are stunning, the coral reef is still in reasonable condition, the vibe is relaxed and diving is ridiculously cheap. We were looking for the nicest spot, away from the crowds and the touristy circus, with the best beach and very important to us: tasty vegan food. And we found it. Keranji Beach was bulls-eye. Hidden paradise Keranji Beach is located in an idyllic, quiet, hidden bay. After having seen the rest of the crowded Perhentians, I can say with conviction that Keranji Beach is by far the most beautiful beach of the Perhentian Islands. Although you can easily reach the much busier, more touristy Coral Beach via a jungle path in about 10-15 minutes, in Keranji beach it really feels like you are on your own private little island. Because it is tucked away in a corner of the island, hardly anyone comes here who doesn’t stay here. And do you want to go diving on the Perhentians? The brand new Chomel Dive Center is located in the bay next to Keranji Beach, just a 5-minute walk away. You can also get your PADI diving certification for around €210, taught by a knowledgeable, professional team. You can also book follow-up courses and recreational diving for shockingly low prices. Prefer snorkelling? Then Keranji is perfect for you as well. The coral reef just in front of your bungalow is livelier and richer than at other beaches on the Perhentians and the bay is full of cute, (harmless) young sharks! Snorkel a few meters further and you will also encounter the (also harmless) adults, as well as many other species. The accommodation - back to basic Keranji Beach has 10 cute eco-bungalows of different sizes, overlooking the bay and palm trees. They are all basic, but very cozy and beautifully built. The beds are comfortable, the bathroom (with cold water) is clean, the mosquito net comes in handy, the fan provides more than enough cooling and there is a hammock on your porch. Electricity is available in the evening, at night and in the morning. The food - vegan paradise! Another important reason for us to book at Keranji Beach were the many vegan options on the menu. Plant-based food on the Perhentian Islands is not easy to find… And since you are very remote, it was highly convenient that we could eat decent vegan food at or near our accommodation. But we never expected it to be THIS good. The chef is truly a master and together with the hardworking team makes the most rich, tasty vegan curries, noodle bowls, rice dishes and more. Everything with non-vegan and vegan options. And in huge portions too! We are big eaters, but these bowls were a task. However, it was so delicious that we were already looking forward to the next meal as we were taking our last bites. We didn't want to eat anywhere else. Would you rather not have a heavy, Asian dish every time? They also make delicious (breakfast) pancakes, and on request also vegan. The large plates full of fresh fruit and delicious juices are also delicious. The team - exemplary hospitality But what really made the stay at Keranji Beach unforgettable was the incredibly warm hospitality of the staff. They work extremely hard all day long, are incredibly helpful, give you personal attention and make you feel right at home. I definitely hope to return here someday!

The best place to stay if you prefer somewhere back to nature(no WiFi, no TV etc and that's totally fine by me).. private beach with crystal clear blue sea, friendly staff, tasty foods. We were lucky to spotted baby sharks, stingray and wide variety of small coral fishes.

When you want to go back to basic and just enjoy nature, this is your place to stay! We had a hut right in front of the beach and stayed for 6 days. We didn't leave the area, since we only wanted to do.. nothing. Just lay on a beautiful beach, look at a beautiful sea. The birds, beautiful butterflies, a few chicken, rooster, bunnies, squirrels and lots of gecko's made the area fun to be. The water is crystal clear, bring your snorkeling gear and look for multiple fish, sharks, stingrays. Maybe even a turtle! Communication with the office was easy through WhatsApp. We pre-booked the boat and airport transfer, which made our arrival and departure effortless. The staff of Keranji Beach Resort is super friendly and made us feel at home. The food is good. Note to bring enough cash for food & drinks, but it's also possible to pay by Paypal at the end of your stay. We will come back <3

Beautiful location on the beach. Room is simple but fine. Staff is very friendly. And, very important, the chef is a perfect cook! Roti canai with a fresh pineapple juice in the morning, and in the evening a nice local dish. But if you prefer Western food, he will make it as well. Water is crystal clear. We saw stingrays, sharks, turtles.

Our family trip to Keranji was excellent!! Sue was very helpful lining things up for us, and we arrived hassle free to the resort. There is no dock so we just jumped down on a portable wooden platform the staff brought out to us. I believe no dock is better as it would take away from the gorgeous beach. With the wooden platform, we didnt even get our feet wet! Our hut (#6) was in very good repair and they brought an extra bed for our daughter (with a mosquito net). We had a nice big bathroom with a shower and a balcony overlooking the beach with a hammock and chairs. Very beautiful!! Our hut had visitors (squirrels and small, harmless lizards) that were entertaining and cute. Remember to keep all food locked up in the wardrobe there... we had the squirrels eat through a bag of pretzels, lol. The resort also has their own pets. Bantam chickens, rabbits and a very friendly cat. There are no dangerous animals although I wouldn't recommend trying to pet the wild monitor lizards. The staff is very friendly and although Bahasa Malaysia is their first language, several of them also speak English. They gave us a real welcome feeling and after a day we were all talking like old friends. Throughout our stay they were extremely helpful and arranged day trips for us when we wanted. Mainly though, we just snorkeled off the resort beach. We saw all kinds of marine life there, and as a seasoned diver I believe it was very good for the family. Our daughter is only 9 and was able to snorkel around with no issues. I would recommend you bring your own equipment (cheap to buy) but if you dont, you can rent it from the dive shop in the resort next door or another shop on the island. Much better to have your own so you can snorkel at your whim without the hassle of renting. The beach is probably the nicest resort beach I have seen on either of the Perhentian Islands. Aziz rakes and cleans it every morning, and you can see from the resort picture above how large the beach is. Lots of room for all the guests. You can also take the trails to other resorts or the town. We did, but really never found anything as good as the Keranji Resort beach. I cannot say enough about how good the beach is!! The food is also quite good. They have a large menu with both Malaysian and western dishes. They can also pack sandwiches or other food for day trips. Everything we ate was delicious and well prepared. For drinking water you can either buy mineral water bottles or refill your own water bottle with the filtered water (town water brought in by pipeline). We chose the environmental friendly (and cheaper) option of the filtered water and told the staff how many refills to charge us each day (RM 2 each refill). I had to re-write this review because tripadvisor did not allow me to select my ratings for sleep quality, rooms and service. When posted, tripadvisor automatically gave a one out of five rating for each which is really the farthest thing from the truth. 5 stars is their score from me. Our vacation was really fantastic and we will be returning to Keranji Beach Resort again in the future!!
