We went on holiday with our 2 children, age 6 & 9 along with a friend’s family of 4. We had an amazing experience from arrival through to, very sadly, leaving. We went for the full board package and did not regret it. Food was fantastic, staff were awesome and we have had a holiday we will always remember. We went on 2 snorkelling trips with Kai and saw shark, turtle and a huge array of reef marine life that was wonderful. Kai made this fun and informative and wonderful for our children’s first snorkelling experience. Thank you to everyone a Bubu for making this a holiday our whole family will not forget.

Arival was lengty paying taxes at every stop before boarding boat. Hotel could absorb it instead of guest searching through for Rm 5 multiple times and lining up. Hotel should get a pass for its guest who are paying high prices for mediocre room Be aware No hotel lifts. - 3rd flr stairs climb - don't be shocked to see huge lizards as big as one feet long all along the stairs onroute to your room! Food was terible. Almost all items were very oily and tasteless. - satay deep fried - santai restaurant full of flies amd insects all over your food - servers maskless and breathing and talking into your food. Covid is still evident yet waiters and bar staff dont use mask. - check in 2pm but arrive by boat 1230pm so you have to wait few hours in the blazing heat at restaueants non airconditioned, as rooms not ready -Pineaple juices and all fruit juices tiny amount witt loadsa ice cubes. But you pay high for it - bedsheets have stains - bathrm had cicak Hotel charges Rm 1100-1400 per night yet - 1st hotel with no toothbrush - 1st hotel that limits drinking water They charge Rm 7 for small spritzer. - lugage , cupboard storage n coffee making area is in the bathroom can u imagine all stench fr bathrm usage. Drinking water expensive So we had to buy large bottles and carry all d heavy bots from next door shops to hotel - curtain doesnt hv a curtain stick so you'd have to touch d unwashd curtains that r abnormally extra long overlaping d floor . Wrong sized curtains and filthy - sofa is fabric - staf not able to comunicate well.. n mostly nonchalant . -daikin aircond making sounds all day n nite n full of dust - ac vents not washed and not serviced -imposible to sleep with aircond blowing directly into your face ( whoever designed the position of ac did not think of guest comforts n health) - hs keeping opened d unlatchd door maskless - no swim pool -no room Service - no toothbrish no room slippers , no beach sliper - no tv - huge lizards - behind rooms are staffquarters n storerooms with some loud pump sounds and smoke - receptionist in scarf grumpy at check in. Other staff polite and helpful - limited buffet bfast items n all crousants run out by 9.30am not replenished . Oily food. Pros - staff helpful - sea nice to swim - snorkeling trip 10/10 good guide - good coctails at santai but food mediocre Will not be staying here again. Not worth the price

BuBu Resort provides greatest convenience in terms of transport from air port to the resort. It is a great resort surrounded with beautiful scenery and friendly staffs. The resort provides delicious cuisine and tip top hospitality. Mr Fai (a passionate staff of BuBu Resort) guided us along the snorkelling trip to ensure our safety. Highly recommended if you’re going to visit Perhentian Island.

Great location. The resort is very near the jetty from Kuala Besut. The staff are very helpful and friendly; from the reception staff, to the Santai restaurant staff, the housekeepers and the general workers. We had to take a very very early morning boat, and they had two staff helping us with our luggage. Food at Santai was great. Ample choices during breakfast buffet. Juices are made fresh when you want them. The lunch and dinner menu has lots of choices from Asian to Western. Not cheap for island standard, but in terms of taste and speed of service, it was worth it. If you want to be closer to the happening night life, Bubu Villa would be a better location. Bubu Villa is about 700m away from Bubu resort. Basically the other end of Long Beach. We were very happy at Bubu Resort. Special thanks to the reception staff who helped with our many requests. I would come back.

We certainly enjoyed our stay at BuBu Resort. We arrived at Kuala Besut and was ferried over to Perhentian Kecil in a decent sized boat catered by resort. The last time I was in Perhentian, the resort we stayed in uses the public boats and they would squeeze in as many people as possible into one boat. Certainly a safety concern but not with BuBu. They ensured the maximum capacity of the boat is maintained. When we arrived at the resort closed on 1pm, our room wasn't ready yet. I believe there were many people checking in over the weekend (public holiday) and at the end we waited until close to 3pm before the room was ready. Wasn't really a big deal as we had lunch at the resort restaurant. We booked the room at the ground floor which had easier access to the beach and also mainly it could fit my family of 4. The room is not big but sufficient in space for the 4 of us. The bed is comfortable and the pillows are just nice (many hotels we stayed in is too soft). Room has all the amenities you'd need. We enjoyed the food at the restaurant. It's pretty good. There's a variety from western to local. They also have free drinks (per person per day) during happy hours. Only thing is that the food is rather expensive. We didn't mind the Grill/BBQ items which is only available for dinner as it was really good but other items seems a little costly. Not to worry as there are plenty of options (restaurants) to choose from as you walk down the beach. We like the beach. You can actually snorkel close to the jetty area. Plenty of fishes to see. We also went on a snorkeling trip and fishing trip which was quite an experience. The spa was pretty good too. It is located at BuBu Villa which is just a short walk from the resort. Overall this was a wonderful vacation with my family. Glad we chose Bubu Resort this time. Right location. The staff were helpful and friendly.

Good vibe. Greeted well. Hotel was clean. Air conditioned. Rooms are expensive but worth it. Santai restaurant food was rather expensive but was tasty with big portion. Staff was freindly and helpful. The hotel have their own guide and boat for snorkeling. Good for 10 to 15 pax. Enjoyed their snorkeling. Overall had a wonderfull and great time. Will be back for sure.

Me and my friend had lively 5 days stay at the Bubu Villa. Our villa is way beyond our expectation, I can say that it’s the best that 8 have ever stayed. I totally live the shower under the stars concept bathroom. It’s just walking distance to the beach. Also just a couple of doors down to the main fire show stage. The food and cocktails are marvellous and are prepared and presented to the highest standard of culinary. The thing I enjoyed most was the staffs. All staffs are very nice, welcoming and accommodating. At first I had my doubts about changing my resort from another high end neighbouring resort, but after these 5 days, I’m glad that I did choose Bubu Villa as my choice to stay at Perhentian Island. I will come again, definitely.

Firstly our stay at the resort was excellent the majority of the staff (apart from one particular staff member who I shall mention) were attentive and generally made our stay ever so welcoming . Big shout out the the ladies at reception, Wei and Jason at the bar who were constantly non stop and brilliant. The hotel location is great and the rooms clean and comfortable. The only thing I feel the hotel should be aware of is that a member of their staff conned us out of 600 MR into taking out an excursion with a friend of his to visit some local islands, which we later found out should not have costed no no more than 200MR. The excursion was quite frankly poor and off little value and it was only our second day at the island resort. This chaps name was Iqbal, he was one of the staff . So if you are looking to book anything at this resort privately avoid this guy, unfortunately I felt it important to make the BUBU resort aware that they have some bad apples in their midst and hopefully they will see into the matter as is does affect their resorts reputation. Hence a very good rating. If we hadn’t been ripped off the rating would of been higher

Probably the best place on Long Beach. Service is good and gentle. However I regret that in 3 days some services have not been constantly available ( 1 evening the restaurant was closed, another the Asian food menu was not available, another the free cocktail was not possible because the cocktail man was not there, …) I can understand the reasons but it should typically not be the case for a hotel with a close to 300 euros room rate. Other than that service was good, the room was clean and pleasant as well as the outside sanitary. A good place but surely a little bit over priced.

I had to come here and tell the truth before some other poor soul gets lied to and scammed. Putting this out here simply to warn other potential guests and share our personal experience. Been in a few countries and especially when we’re far away from home in a foreign place, we try to book a good well-known hotel name because these hotels/resorts usually take care of and protect their guests. Bubu turned out to be the disappointing exception. We paid more than RM 6000 for 7 nights stay in Bubu. Extremely overpriced but there was no room on Mimpi and my mom doesn’t do well in those cheaper, non-air con resorts. Almost throughout we had a great experience regarding staff hospitality. The staff who work the reception and manage the bar at night, the bartender and the Myanmar waitstaff were very genuine and seemed to enjoy talking to us. They were so nice that they allowed me to claim my free drink even though I only came by at night, and one night, quite late when they were closing. Great service. 1. The Scam. Won’t drop the name in public but the guy in charge of snorkelling trips also chatted us up every morning. I would be going for scuba diving classes almost daily while she would be in the resort or the area chilling. On day 2, he talked to her and asked why she’s alone. Then he said to her, you come on my boat la, I take people out snorkelling (the other hotel guests who actually signed up for it). She told him she can’t swim so she can’t go snorkelling. He said, nevermind la, just follow, just follow the boat. So she did, and we both thought that he was actually nice enough to be taking her out on the boat so she can see the sights even if she doesn’t snorkel. We thought that he was so nice, that I wanted to pass him my dry bag once our trip was over, for free, because he mentioned to me he really liked decathlon and it’s so far away and inconvenient for him to travel out to KL for decathlon. I wanted to just pass him my bag for free even though he did offer to pay a fee. And I did this because I thought he had been nice enough to let my mom follow the boat. I personally also did not sign up for snorkelling but was literally talked into “come la, follow my boat”. I snorkelled on that boat on my last day. It was horrible and too touristy with 150 people from all the boats gathering in the same spots. I did not sign up for it myself, I signed no form, I was not told the price, I actually didn’t even know that it would be charged. To our surprise, on our checkout, he had put both our names down and Bubu charged us for 2x snorkelling, on the date that I had snorkelled. Which was factually wrong itself, since my mom had gone on the boat on day 2, not day 6. We told reception that we shouldn’t be charged for her because she told this person that SHE COULD NOT SWIM, AND YET HE SAID JUST FOLLOW. It was so damn glaringly morally wrong. And reception refused to take the charge off and their expressions told us they had definitely seen this before and didn’t care that it happened – and seemed to be on it too. I didn’t even mention that it wasn’t right to lead me into using Bubu’s overpriced snorkelling trip and then sneakily charging both of us. IF YOU WANTED TO CHARGE US TWICE, YOU SHOULD HAVE TOLD ME BEFORE WE AGREED TO IT. Meanwhile, this man was sitting in the lobby and we were right in front of him dealing with this charge. Obvious that he saw and knew what was going on. I had to pay the charges – it’s RM 60 per person. And went for breakfast. This guy, fully knowing he had messed us up, now dared not greet us – especially me – openly. When he finally came to ask me if everything’s ok, I brought my mom’s charge up. He had seen what happened and YET pretended to be surprised and said, why they charge you? I said, why did you tell them to charge me? (because he was only person who could have done it). Then he said, why never tell me? I could have helped you remove the charge. I said, Ok so can we get a refund? He looked a little unsure, then said, wait I check and get back. After breakfast, he arranged a refund of my mom’s charge to us by bank transfer which he did fulfill. He said in a week. I waited past a week and nothing in the bank. Then reminded him, and he fulfilled it. They refunded only my mom’s charge, even though they shouldn’t have charged me for mine, or at least told me about it first, including the price, which I NEVER agreed to. What a disgrace. I’ve never been someone to go online and write reviews for everything but this was a big disgrace. That was a very painful lesson to learn not to trust hotel staff. Of ALL the countries I’ve been in, Europe, the US, it was so disappointing that the ONLY hotel I got scammed in, that is supposed to be looking out for its guests, is from Malaysia, where home is. 2. Why the staff are very friendly. We were actually impressed with the staff’s friendliness throughout, they would actually have a conversation with us and we thought it was better than Club Med where it’s an SOP for them to have to sit with guests to chat. We thought the staff’s chill vibe and friendliness was genuine until the last night we found out by one of their admission that the boss has CCTVs and requires them to be talking to guests. They have some sort of KPI that can give them incentives, based on engaging the guests in chatting with them or running activities (snorkelling…..). So be aware coming in. We got tricked thinking they were actually genuinely interested in us. Don’t be tricked. If I knew this early, I would rather have been left alone. 3. Minor from here – cleanliness. Room was covered with bugs on the first night. That’s fine, being situated in the jungle. But just expect things like that in your shoes. Housekeeping were always polite in greeting guests. However they often didn’t clear empty glasses, didn’t replace soap and shampoo. They do not give a dental set unless you ask first. The room wasn’t kept clean and there could be improvement here. 4. Financially worth it? Luxury rooms are basic. Not worth RM 6000. Sorry we didn't get the value we paid for. This review would have been 1 star for the housekeeping effort and the bar staff who seemed to be more genuine and really good people, but for the blatant dishonesty and the wrong done to us, I would give it 0/5 if possible.
