The resort is located at Coral Beach and I love the beach because it is not crowded as Long Beach, you would find many unbreachable corals in the sea, and there is a sea platform that allows you to see the whole seaside in the middle of the sea. And you can have a sunset view while having your dinner in the restaurant of the resort. The only thing I was not satisfied with the bathroom is not that clean, and the bedroom wasn't reached my expectation, but overall I had a good experience and it is suitable for backpackers but not suitable for those looking for luxury accommodation experience.

The room is extremely basic, no frills if you could tolerate the lack. However with the pricing, one would expect better. Dirty sheets, smelly toilet, bathroom ceiling leaked when it rains, and uninspiring breakfast (they are the same everyday) made the stay less bearable. The only plus point I would give would be its decent wifi, view, and friendly owner. Stay here only if you are not picky.

The beach, Coral Bay, is lovely, the most beautiful in Kecil. On the Senja there are many things to say: Spartan chalets in the jungle are fine, mice, ants and cockroaches can enter. What is not acceptable is fleas in mattresses. After two days my partner and I had legs and feet full of stings. After the protests a “Resort” worker came and removed the sheets and sprayed an anti-insect. How were the mattresses under the sheets I avoid telling. For 65 euros per night, high price for Malaysia, is not acceptable.

I did a booking through Agoda to have a 4D3N stays. In Agoda page clearly stated that they will only verify my credit card and the full payment will be make in the resorts upon arrive. However, I got notified by Agoda a week before of my travel date that my booking has been cancel and there's no confirmation come from the hotel. I call the hotel ask why, their reason is they can't charge my card. However, the statement has clearly state that full payment only make upon arrival. What's wrong with this people? Asking me re-do the booking and great, I can't find rooms for the date I want to travel now. This mean you are not welcome me.

If the resorts GM or management is reading this comment. Your hotel's reservation team need a full training on how to handle special case lile this. Be more respect to your guest. Nope, I'm not your guest as you reject me.

Overall acceptable rooms, considering the price paid the quality is adequate. We slept two nights in the beachfront bungalows. The problem is the staff, absolutely listless, sometimes irritating and offensive. For the luggage they did not offer to lend a hand at all (which was done in all the places where we stayed in Malaysia). The staff, sitting doing nothing, simply watched and laughed..
For dinner to avoid, unfortunately one evening due to rain we had to try and they did everything. In the end after having reversed the orders with another table, and having waited over 1 hour they say that they have run out of the things ordered. Obviously at every reminder they laughed in my face and spoke to each other in Malay. Terrible experience, horrendous service. If you decide to go, arm yourself with patience.
Then there are strange insects in the mattress
... Which obviously sting.. I suggest a sheet bag

Great location and nice staff, but that's about it. For 60 euros per night we expect better. Poor air conditioning, dated huts, ants everywhere (removed every day but just kept coming). Shower had little water coming out, moldy shower curtain. Very basic for an expensive price. But you are on a beautiful island!😜

Today I checked out from this resort and the experience could not be worse.
1. Breakfast is really basic and you will get bored on the second day. They have eggs, sausages, toast and beans and a Malayan meal that changes but usually noodles or rice. For dessert just watermelon and for beverages one type of juice, coffee or tea.
2. On our third night the neighbors next door start making noise, playing loud music and running around. You can clearly hear everything and also feel! If they jump on the bed you can feel it on your OWN Bed!
3. I came downstairs around 2-3am to let the receptionist know about it and my surprise was that reception was CLOSED! What happens if someone get an injury in the middle night? What about the security of the guests? Really disappointed
At the end I found a guy around the hotel and I asked him about the receptionist he clearly do not understand a word of what I was trying to say, he start talking Malayan and coming upstairs with me, then he asked what should he do? Really bad and disappointing customer service if there is any.
4. On the following day while checking out I explained to another receptionist what happened last night and no single word about it e.g I'm sorry about what happened and ask for some details they just stare at me with a blank face.
I am not sure if they do not really understand English or they do not care about guests. Unbelievable and not really what I expected paying almost 50€ for one night in Perenthian
If you can afford it please found any other resort on the island

Just got back from a two week break in Perhentian. Stayed 5 nights at this hotel and really enjoyed my time there.
First of all when you read or write a review you have to take into account the expectation levels of a place and the you have to be realistic. You would not expect a hotel on a remote under developed island with a 5 star review to be as good as a hotel in New York with a 5 star review.
I honestly don't know what people want on some of these forums. If you want to stay in really nice places then go somewhere that has been commercialised by tourism for the past 20 years. If you want to go to a beach that has about 50 people on it in high season and about 10 in the crystal clear unpolluted waters at any one time then be a bit more realistic about what to find their accommodation wise. Anyway rant over!

Senjay Bay offers basic but comfortable accommodation in a quiet corner Coral Bay beach. It has the best views on the whole island as you can see the whole beach from your balcony and it is the only real place on Kecil where you can watch the sunset.

The rooms are pretty simple really, a mid/small bedroom with double wardrobe and bedside tables and air con. It is true that the walls are paper thin but this side of the island is quiet anyway and you would have to be very unlucky with neighbors for this to be a major problem.

The bathrooms are a bit run down but there is a toilet, shower, sink that all work fine. We had a problem with the shower at one point it was fixed straight away.

The restaurant was a great setting to eat breakfast and watch the day unfold although for dinner there were better places about a 2 min walk along the beach. The staff were very efficient, cleaned the room every day and couldn't have really done any more that we asked.

A few people have mentioned the smell at the hotel and this is an issue but I went round resorts on both islands and the only place i could not smell the sewage pipes at some point in the day was at over by the cozy/tuna bay side of Besar.

It is more evident at Senjay Bay as the day goes on and I am surprised it hasn't been fixed but it isn't that bad and is really only in front of the resort. I will admit though that it did put me off eating in the restaurant at night as that was probably when it was at its worst but saying that you couldn't even smell it when in the restaurant.

As I said before thought what price paradise? There are a lot worse and people were coming to Senjay Bay every day having experienced some really bad places.

It is cheap and cheerful and is very peaceful.

The bad reviewers should go to the more commercial Thailand resorts. Better hotels but 300 people sitting next to you for 8 hours a day. Am sure they will be happy when in 20 years Perhentian has an airport, a Starbucks and Hilton Hotel!!!

This place seems popular among locals, not for backpackers.

We stayed at Senjabay for a week. We were lucky with the room, since we had no neighbors for most of the stay. The walls are crazily thin and you feel in the whole "house" when the neighbor is turning in bed. Location was good, coral bay is beautiful and we had a nice view from the room.

Food was OK, but there are better places on the same beach.

The big problem with this place is the "service". A big bunch of kids playing around like in a kindergarden. There are many people working, but they are more interested in taking pictures of each others, giggling or watching a loud local TV serie on the TV. This atmosphere is getting tiring, so I suggest spending the time elsewhere.

We found 2 (well, more like 1.5) dead rats on our door step while going out for dinner one evening. We asked the staff to get some help to remove them. They were not interested at all in cleaning, but after insisting we were given a broom to swipe the floor...

But if you are lucky you get the chance to see the Guana lizard couple living under the hotel.

I just went to Senja Bay Resort from 26-28 Apr 2007. Well... I can say this is the best resort among the rest at the same island coz we have went for survey on day 2. Senja Bay (formerly known as Suria Perhentian) is located at Coral Bay. People wholike quiet and relaxing can stay here. You can walk to Bubu Long Beach which is 2km (~15 mins walking distance) to enjoy the surfing and massage there.
