July 2022 : Rooms and bathrooms are clean, a bit dated BUT clean. Local food was great, breakfast was below average, food generally gets very expensive, and sadly a handful of restaurant/kitchen staff could be the reason why the rating is low. At times, the food can really take a long time to be served even when the restaurant is barely occupied. The rest of the staff (non-restaurant) are extremely friendly and helpful. Housekeeping, front desk, water activity team were nothing but great. They truly are meant for hospitality.

July 2023 : Returned as a guest again. Again, I’m happy with the front desk service and state of the room. Breakfast continued to be below average. Local lunch and dinner was bad. Really bad, which is so disappointing. Last year’s local food was so good! Not sure if they hired a new chef? Enjoyed snorkeling both visits. Well arranged, it was just a really fun experience.

May return in 2024, just for the room and snorkeling. Will opt to eat at the nearby local eateries. Overall, the staff are great just don’t be surprised to bump into 1 - 2 not so friendly ones.

The room was generally clean, with all the basic amenities given. The TV in the rooms came with USB and some movies which we quite enjoyed after our dinner and hanging out in our rooms. While there's wifi, it keeps on dropping and we can barely go online. Also, the electricity might trip few times a day, but it was usually restored almost immediately. But this can be an annoying thing if you are in shower, watching TV or losing out on your aircond during the night.

Rooms came with free breakfast, nothing fancy but it was sufficient for us.

Taking in consideration that Perhentian is an island where there's nothing (no resorts, no cars, no shops, etc), I believe this is one of the most "fancy" hotels in the whole island (even though the hotel is not fancy at all). You have a room with private bathroon and a great restaurant with good food and nice cocktails.

The beach where the hotel is located is not good, from my point of view the only good beach is: Long Beach - you can go by walking from the hotel in 8min, BUT! those 8 min are on a path that has no ilumination, no pavement and some animals and insects around (we saw a small komodo dragon there), so during the night you will have to stay at your beach/hotel or take a boat taxi which is very expensive).

In conclusionm, my recommendation is:

If you are looking for a hotel where you can stay "a bit" more comfortable: go for Ombak.
If you are looking for a place where you just leave your hotel and you are in an amazing beach: go to Long Beach and get a hotel / hostal there.

A horrible hotel: dark and damp. Unacceptable value for money for the average cost of much more beautiful and functional rooms on the island. Extremely clean, there is no shower tray so you have to live with a flooded bathroom every time. There was only one electrical socket in the room and it was occupied by the only lamp in the room. Breakfast acceptable but there was no coffee!!!! The diving center is run by rude and arrogant staff. The receptionists were kind but organizing tours with them required a higher cost without any additional service. Not recommended

We stayed 5 nights in Ombak Dive Resort. Booked a package deal including diving and food through their website but was charged RM 1.000 too much per person. They tried to comp us with drinks in the bar 🤯. Ended up ripping us of for RM 1.300.
Hotel is average and does not match very high prices. Food in the restaurant is boring/tasteless and also way too expensive.
Dive Center is okay but our instructor could not communicate in English.
Perhentians has plenty of better priced options. Go somewhere else!!!

Perfect location, right on the beach to watch the sunset. Everything you need is nearby and Long Beach a 10 minute walk from Ombak. Comfy bed and air conditioning all day. Friendly helpful staff always available. Top class full day snorkelling trip booked at reception, our skipper Mat, a local islander, he made the day, helpful with the gear and in the water made sure we saw everything, coral, turtles, nemos and sharks, cannot recommend Mat enough, thank you ☺️.

Room average, not much facilities, good and friendly reception but the ombak cafe is terrible.
The staff attitude is terrible and rude. Don’t take the package basically it is not buffet (multiple choice), it just simple rice, chicken, Vege and eggs n most important, make sure u go early, else u will need to eat those left over. If u ask any refill, they will just walk away like non of their business, n when u try to to order ala carte menu, they will tell u they r very busy and everything also don’t have. Burger out of stock, pizza out of stock..
When u continue follow up then what am I suppose to eat, they will just fried a noodles and tell u.. go n eat the refill with the sarcastic face and keep nagging behind (hey, I understand ur language between).

Seriously? That’s the attitude?
Maybe u r the only proper cafe on the beach but we pay for the foods not ask for free. Hope u improve ur service.

Just go if u love to starve urself and enjoy the bad attitude cafe staff in Ombak.

Worst island trip ever in my life. 👎🏼👎🏼👎🏼👎🏼👎🏼

I visited Perhentian in 2019 and ate dinner every night at Ombak. The menu was varied, the atmosphere was buzzing and the service was good. Fast forward 4 years and the menu was terrible and there were very few customers. As a vegan there wasn't anything I could eat, but the chef kindly made me a curry and bread. I paid for 2 breakfasts but could only eat baguette and jam. It was disappointing and so sad to see such a thriving place go downhill. I won't go back.

Mixture of asian and western food.
Awesome breads & pastries!!

Snorkling trip:
Fantastic. They even provided a picnic basket for lunch so we just stayed out the whole time. Went to around 8 different snorkle areas with an insightful guide.

i'm so regret with the treatment i received in this resort. i'm a local Malaysian and been treated like a joke. no kidding. not even once i feel welcomed here. maybe because the majority people staying here is foreigner, so they don't give a damn about us.

first of all, they took my money without my consent fr. its half of the total by the way. and they charge me another RM 100 for bringing extra 1 person. its ridiculous! if they really don't allow to bring another person, why the people in front of my room can have 6 people staying in 4 bed room? how does that even mean? I've been asking ALL the accommodation at coral bay and they said there is no such thing to pay 100 for bringing extra person. i also being forced to pay for it. the receptionist also making funny face to me when i ask why i need to pay more? I've been travelling everywhere around Malaysia and this is the first time i meet the staff front desk mocking me. its unbelievable. before the trip i also have requested iron, hair dryer and kettle. but at the day arrival, the receptionist say i need to request again just because she want to know. i don't understand how unprofessional she is. and another person is useless. not helping me either but mocking me instead. I've been asking the local people at coral bay about their resort and they said Ombak resort is the worst place to stay. but i decide to stay anyway because I've spend hundreds there. its a nightmare.

by the way the room is just average. the door lock is not installed right. i cant lock my door properly. the floor is sticky. the room only provide yellow light, no white light. toilet is small and cramped. the water pressure a bit low. their blanket is smelly and the pillow case is over perfumed. the pillow is stone hard. the generator sound is so loud. even if u closed the door u still can heard the sound. the wall socket also not installed properly. no telephone in the room, if u need anything u have to go all the way back down there just to request something. no WiFi in the room or outside your room. WiFi only provided at cafe area, but slow. the beach at coral bay is not really a place u can swim around because a lot of boats there. go snorkeling at least.

y'all should know this, if u a local don't even bother to come here. the staff don't care about y'all. if u a foreigner u are very welcomed. they will help u out with everything they got. the only reason i saying this i don't want my fellow Malaysian being treated like i do. its a disaster.
