Detailed Reviews
I must say that Lily Chalet doesn't seem like the most comfortable place to stay on Long Beach, as compared to Bubu...but being a budget traveller, having a bed to sleep in, in an airconditioned room with great location and view, running water in your own attached bathroom, Lily is actually not bad.
True, there are some critters around the chalet, but hey..we're in the wild...and since Lily is located near some jungle, you're bound to bump into some critters on your visit. Talking from experience at Lily, my friend's chalet (next to mine) had a giant lizard stuck on her door, welcoming her back from a night of boozing at Lily's bar...it was almost 2 ft long!...hehehehe...as for me and my roomates, we had a baby snake in our bathroom!!...using a flipper/fin, we managed to get it out of the room...both experience were scary but i have to say it added the fun element into our trip...
All in all, two thumbs up for Lily...but i guess who you go with on a trip also detemines the amount of fun that you'll have...mine was great!

We stayed on the big island for the first two nights of our stay but then wanted to move over to Long Beach as was a much nicer beach. I had been recommended Lily Chalets so went there and managed to get room number 6. This chalet was the closest to the beach so had nice views but came at a huge price! Come the evening, there was the loudest music you could imagine from 2 sides and it continued until 5am. This is Ok if you are out and joining in the party but if you want to get any sleep any of the nights you are there it is IMPOSSIBLE!
The actual room itself was nice and relatively big but the attached bathroom was disgusting. It had a really horrible stench so that you had to not breath when you had a shower and was pretty dirty (photo to show this!). Plus we paid for air conditioning which was a tiny unit on the wall which hardly made a difference.
The electricity is on most of the time which is a bonus but you get much better accommodation for cheaper the other end of long beach. The noise was so bad we moved to Matahari chalets after 2 nights and this was so much nicer and cheaper than Lily's. We stayed in the airconditioned block there and the room was really clean and the air conditioning really worked. Plus you have the added luxury of hot water!

We were staying at LiLy Chalet with 2 friends of mine, got a small room with a huge bed, don't remember the number now, at a ridiculously small price. It's not a 5 stars hotel, but for what you pay couldn't be any better. We took a walk along the beach to look at the accommodations before choosing the place and comparing to other gloomy moldy places this one seemed really clean and comfortable.
I also liked the food Lily prepared much, it's simple and adopted to european taste for those who, like myself, cannot eat too spicy food or something like soup for breakfast. She's got omelet, sandwiches, french toasts, huuuge plates of tasty salads, nice chicken, everything to give stomach a rest from asian spicy cuisine. Fresh juices at really funny prices were a nice bonus.
Again, he price of the stay and food was like 10 times lower than at Bubu, so I would definitely recommend guys staying at Palau Kecil chose this place.

Lily Chalet looks good from the outside, but don't be deceived coz the inside is close to crumbling down!
We were there early June 2007. (2 adults & 2 kids)
Stayed at room no. 3, good sized family room with air cond, 24hr electricity and attached bathroom (no hot water). They charge RM200 a nite, which I thought was not worth it for what we had to put up with in our chalet.
1) Dilapidating walls and ceilings - the bathroom was the worst, coz the decaying ceiling comes with a stench. Bathroom has no windows or air vents, so its keeps the smell and humidity in. The rain poked a small hole on the ceiling (natural skylight so it seems!) and one of the ceiling boards looks like it would crumble down anytime because of the water puddle. I think it would have crumbled down by now with the heavy rain.
2) What they call mattress is a joke!
The springs were springing out of the mattress. We were virtually sleeping on a bed of springs...3 nights was all that our backs could endure.
3) The wild
The rooms are on stilts, 2 feet on top of the ground. The space between the ground and the chalet makes a great hide out place for none other than thriving resident reptile, the monitor lizard. We saw the tail track on the sand going under our chalet. Of course this is no fault of the hotel, but just be prepared for what you would encounter.
The lizards are not harmful, but very intimidating. Its huge and fast. At another location near the resort, I saw 2 of them running towards my kids & I, they were around 30 feet from where we were. Yes, I was freaked out and ran away from them, but they ran into the bushes once they sense our presence. The adrenaline rush from that was no fun!
Having said all that, I'm still in love with Perhentian Kecil. I've been going there annually for 3 consecutive years. I like it better than Redang, Perhentian Besar or Tenggol. I absolutely love the beach life on Perhentian Kecil's long beach. It keeps me coming back for more. I'm gonna try other places to stay next.
