We are a family of 5 and went on a stay here. I believe it was the best decision we ever made! The manager Janelle was very warm and welcoming towards us. The staffs were very attentive - from the reception on shore, the front desk, restaurants and even housekeeping! They’re always smiling and never fail to entertain our queries. The resort is clean and comfortable with rooms nicely laid out and properly designed. Our room was very spacious and even had a balcony where you can enjoy the beach view while the sound of the waves calm you down during your stay. It was very zen! They also have several interesting excursions on offer, but I found their coral saving project to be really interesting. Here, guests get to participate this for free, and you get to save the environment and our ocean too! Not to forget, the resort also has a good policy in reducing plastic usage where guests will each be given a water flask that can be refilled with water at their dispenser stations. One thing that could be improved was maybe the pricing of the food at the Bayu Restaurant - we feel that it is a bit too expensive. Overall, I was expecting a trip to an island will be tiring (as with many prev ones) but not this time round, with Alunan Resort! So thank you for showing to us and to the world what true hospitality is all about! Kudos to the resort and their staffs!

It was our first time to Pulau Perhentian Kecil and I’m sure glad we chose Alunan for our accommodation. Located at the more secluded Petani Beach, the resort is very unique, being built on the hillside with fantastic views of the ocean from up high. Although we had read reviews about the resort not being suitable for kids or elderly because of the steep climb, I’m glad we decided to go ahead. We have 2 kids aged 9 and 4, so we booked the quad suite near the top. The climb up to our suite was actually not too bad, almost equivalent to 3 flights of stairs. There is both a ramp as well as stairs, so luggage with wheels are not a problem as well. The double-storey suite was beautiful, with stairs leading up to a seating area and a balcony with hammock. On certain sunny days, you can catch a beautiful sunset from there.
The resort food was good; we especially enjoyed the pasta and burgers. We booked the 3-point snorkeling package, the half-day Perhentian trip and also went kayaking. The staff there were friendly and helpful, and also attentive to the kids. My kids joined in the coral planting session as well, which taught them about coral conservation.
Probably the only thing I wish they offered was room service. We could call housekeeping to change towels and take out the trash, but they don’t do it routinely. After a while, the room becomes sandy and the trash bins fill up easily.
Otherwise, it was a wonderful stay for us. Would definitely want to come back again.

Alunan is gorgeus and an experience in itself - they really have their product polished to the max! We spent 10 days in Alunan and this is why we will return for sure:

Food:
We had a full board package, which turned put to be a fantastic value for money, since it had items like a delicious seafood bbq and my personal favourites, which were different types of pastas, all perfectly cooked and well seasoned.

I also enjoyed that every mean came with a fresh salad, was accompanied by yummy juices and finalized with absolutely perfect, home made desserts! Just pure perfection all the way and it's no secret their restaurant is the best one in Kecil - we heard people talking about it many separate times all around in the island when we mentioned where we stayed.

Breakfast has many tasty options on tge menu to choose from and a small buffet for salad, fruits, coffee, tea, toast and cereal.

Snorkeling:
We tried two of their packages and were very positively surprised of the quality of bbq provided after the snorkeling sessions. The instructors were nice and knowledgeable and the marine life in Pulau Perhantian is active & destinations close.

Diving:
Alunan recommended us a diving school whose services we used many times while in Perhantian. Good service all around and easy pickups from Alunans own pier.

Transfers:
All the pick ups were very well organised 'we returbed with Alunans own boat and the alunan travel agency in the pier organised our taxi to the airport - smooth & easy.

Rooms:
We stayed in the room 22 which had two balconies with beautiful view (a lot of stairs to reach the room, which wasn't a problem for us but could be that for somebody). We absolutely loved our room which not only had everything we needed, but more. They e.g have an app with lots of info of the island, tours, all the relevant opening times and even free movies to select from.

Staff:
Even we loved our stay in Alunan, the staff is what made it the most special, since they were all on top of their game the entire time of our stay.

Nothing was too much trouble, people in restaurant, bar, reception, facilities and management level were proactive and well mannered. I would give six stars, if I could.

Overall experience has been fantastic, the location is secluded from the noisy crowd, beach that feels exclusive to you and the staff are awesome!

There's 4 of us all together, so our Quad room is quite a hike! but the view, with the sandy beach and turqoise sea is worth it. The aircond is nice and cool, the amenities and cleanliness is tip top! even the reception was fast and smooth - no complaints!

The restaurant breakfast is limited but delicious and dinner is quite expensive but portion is big and tasty. The beach has a lot of dead corals so after reading a few reviews, we bought protective shoes aka Hot Tuna and we had the best time in the sea! Surprisingly lots of fishes around..

The coral project is such a great initiative by the resort so we went for the briefing and even adopted some. so happy!

Hi RafidahA, thank you for staying with us and for your fantastic review. Happy to hear that you have enjoyed our Alunan Team's warm Malaysian hospitality, our food offerings and our beachfront location. Our coral house reef endures quite a beating every year due to monsoon season. That is why we started Alunan Coral Project to rehabilitate our coral reefs. Thank you for adopting some coral babies :) It has been a pleasure having you with us and we look forward to welcoming you back soon. Thank you for supporting our local business. Spent 2 nights here with some friends and was so looking forward to it after hearing rave reviews from friends who had stayed here last year. However, it was a huge let down considering the price we paid.

Half the items on the menu were not available and the fish was not fresh - even though we're on an island. Food would come with side dishes missing, no replacement, no explanation.

We stayed 4 nights in a smaller, cheaper resort and food was great. Fresh fish, great ingredients. So I don't really understand why it was so hard for the Alunan to source ingredients.

On the plus side, the staff were friendly and tried hard to make amends. We were offered 30% off our food and beverage bill but considering how much we paid for the room, it's not much of a compensation.

Management should have thought more carefully about how they could have handled reopening after the covid MCO. We would have been happy to pay slightly less which would have set our expectations lower, or have free access to kayaks and paddle boards.

It just feels very much like we paid 5 star prices for a 3 star experience at best.

Our family of four enjoyed Alunan so much! The customer service and the simple kindness was just amazing! We genuinely felt like the staff at Alunan cared about us and out experience but they were also so gracious in sharing a bit about themselves and engaging in conversations with us. They went above and beyond throughout our stay. We had one mishap with renting a boat and they completely made up for it plus the next day. I also accidentally left my cell phone in the room and did not realize it until we had already checked out and made our way back to the Jetty. There was not time to go back for it before our flight and they helped me get it back! We enjoyed the coral planting experience and loved hearing from the 3 Marine Biologist on staff-they are so sweet and knowledgeable! We traveled with a pre-teen and teen and we had room 20 and it was 189 steps from our door to the beach so with that said I would take super small babies and toddlers there or I would definitely request a lower room but for us it was fine. The property was clean, spacious, and we felt very safe. Oh one last thing the food! My husband ate the chicken Rendang every night, I loved the prawn appetizer, and the kids loved the fresh tropical fruit plate!

I chose this resort for a romantic getaway because of its focus on sustainability and purpose to give back. Not only is the resort leading the way for guest experience, it has a coral regeneration programme whereby guests can adopt corals that will be re-grown in the resort's coral nursery.

Nestled in the tropical paradise of the Perhentian Islands this property goes above and beyond to guarantee guest's comfort.

The rooms are delightful with nice touches such as complimentary organic aloe vera, insect repellant and hand sanitiser.

The restaurant serves amazing breakfasts, snacks, lunches and dinners with staff who really care about customer service. I was so impressed with our waiter JC and his professional approach to service and knowledge. Thank you for making our dining experiences so memorable.

The resorts focus on sustainability really impressed me. We were given metal water bottles that we were encouraged to refill from the various water stations throughout the resort. The straws are metal and not plastic.

Above all else, the resort has dedicated marine biologists on staff who educate guests about the importance of responsible tourism. They are always on hand to inform about their objective to give back more than they take. Guests can adopt corals and see them planted in the resort's coral nursery. I was fortunate to assist the marine biologists on a dive to photograph the corals' progress. This was amazing experience because it gave my whole stay a purpose. Anyone staying here should try to get involved as much as possible.

In conclusion, my wife and I will be returning to Alunan on our next trip to Malaysia. Thank you to all the staff that went above and beyond to make our stay memorable.

My wife and I spent a week at the Alunan Resort on the Malaysian Perhentian Islands. What a beautiful a and peaceful place! The staff were especial helpful and accommodating. We have to make a special shout out Lawerence and Realen at the restaurant, they and the rest of crew made dining an experience. The food was tasty and had something for everyone. I also like the amount of activities the resort offers, we did snorkling, kayaking and a sunset Hobie Cat sail. The boat crews were awesome and expert. The beach out front the resort was just the right size and had a great snorkling area of its own. The rooms were very good sized, large bathroom and a cool, sun deck on the roof. The shore crew also put the icing on the cake, they made sure you got to the transfer boat with your bags and then back to the airport. We really enjoyed our trip and will be back many, many times! Thank you Alunan Resort!

I've always wanted to stay at Alunan since my Perhentian volunteering days. They were the first to agree to switch to metal straws (and to this day maintains it), and I recall their ambition to give back to the islands with a coral nursery project. Today, that nursery has become a reality, and you can adopt coral pieces that are recovered from around the island to be nurtured in the nursery.

The hotel loans you a reusable water bottle, and filtered water refill stations are all over the resort, although tbh the tap water has been mostly fine for me. They also collect recyclables, which get sent to the mainland for recycling. That's just among the many subtle touches that reflect the resort's awareness that it lies within a Marine Park.

The rooms are spacious and comfortable, and if you should be travelling with people who prefer staying in the room, there are movies you can stream through an app service. Each room has a roof deck where you can hang out clothes and watersports gear to dry, and loungers to enjoy the view without having to go all the way down to the beach.

The restaurant is pretty good, the service excellent. My phone charger fried at some point during my stay, and they helped buy a new one for me in Besut, and it arrived the next day.

The spa is also very nice.

The only possible downside is that the resort sprawls up the hill, so if you have personal mobility challenges it could be onerous getting to and from your room.

My friends and I had a relaxing 4 days 3 nights stay at Alunan resort recently. It certainly is the best choice to start our travel journey again after two years of COVID. Below are my lovely experiences for this unforgettable trip:

Location: We will advise travel by plane as it took around 9 hours by bus from KL to Kuala Besut Bus Station. The taxi fare is RM 10 from Kuala Besut Bus Station to Kuala Besut Jetty. Grab doesn't seem to function in that area, thus taxi is the only choice.

Food: The restaurant provides semi buffet style breakfast. You may order from the a la carte menu (can add on if not enough), and there is fruits, bread, cakes and coffee tea counter. We like their roti canai and nasi lemak the most for breakfast. It is open for lunch and dinner as well. (more towards Western style). There is also a small cafe/restaurant nearby the resort which provides an alternative, as the restaurant food is on a pricey edge.

Room: The room is spacious, comfortable bed and soft pillow. It is exactly like the picture and even better! This is the most important point as some hotel's room photos are really for 'advertising' purposes only.. The room is very well clean with no dust, or sand in the room. I like the small details in the room like the starfish faucet, which is very cute and suits the hotel theme. The blackout curtain changed the room into a movie theater instantly and you can select your favorite movie from the Roomie apps or connect the TV to YouTube. Not to mention it has rooftop balcony that opens to full seaview, and stargazing experience at night.

Attraction: We highly recommend the jungle trekking to the Windmill. The walk is beginner friendly., similar to Taman Tugu trek. Along the journey, you will pass by several beaches and the trek is basically just beside the sea, you can have the sea view on your left and on your right is surrounded by mountains! It is a special experience and the view from the Windmill is mind blowing! It is a must go if you are in Perhentian. If you have limited time in Perhentian, we recommend the Pulau Rawa snorkel trip. Serenggeh is the best point among the others we went to. Lively corals, various types of fish, great visibility. Alunan resort has its own house reef too.

It is too much to share and we have a lot of good memories with this place, Will definitely visit again!

There are a couple of other resorts next to the hotel, but choice will be limited. In my opinion, the best choicest are within the resort itself as they have a wide menu. Hope this helps.

Hello, our resort is built on a hill with many stairs and open balconies. Hence, it is not suitable for young children. Children aged 2 and above are charged as adults and hence, you will need a Quad Sharing Suite which is located at the top of the hill. Warm wishes, The Alunan Team
