About Us: We are newly established campsite operator (2015) at Perhentian Island of east coast peninsular Malaysia. Situated at RainForest Beach on the Perhentian Kecil (Small) Island. We have secluded private beach on our area. At the moment its just us operating in the area with total privacy, very close to nature and totally island style living. Truly the last paradise of island in Malaysia. We are open whole year even during Monsoon period. From the campground, to the secluded private beach and to our restaurant/bar around 200 meters. If you are nature lover and looking to experience island living in tent on quiet jungle with access to secluded private beach, then your expectation will be match. Lots of fish and corals around the area, ground squirrel, monitor lizard, turtle, gecko, various types of insects and protected bird species so you have to be alert at all times. You may have to do lots of walking to other popular places like Coral Bay, Long Beach and Fisherman village.

We stayed at two nights at this amazing place, and it was definitely not enough! It is a true paradise. It is secluded from all the touristy areas and it has it's own beautiful beach. The tents are in good condition, with plenty of room for two people.

The people that work there is also amazing! They will take you on incredible snorkelling trips that try to avoid the bigger group of tourists, play cards with you in the evening and Jii will serve you very nice food.

All in all it is great value for the person that wants to be off grid and experience a true island experience!

If you're looking for a unique, lovely and cool place to stay this Camping side is the perfect place to go.
Sleeping in the rainforest, directly at the beach and under the stars - it's paradise !! Crystal clear water, the most awesome owner ever and the best tuna sandwich in the world.
It's also clean and you don't need any camping equipment it's all there.
I'll definitely come back 💕

What a nice spot with relaxing atmosphere. Very nice beach and snorkeling. Friendly staff and great cook. Every night they make dinner with delicious food for 15RM. You can easily walk to other beaches like Coral Bay and Long Beach. The place is quiet although we had some heavy rain at night. The tents and the matresses are good. There's no blanket but you don't really need one. We also had no WIFI.
Shower and toilets are fine. Just a lot of mosquitos!
I'd recommend this place to anyone who likes camping back to nature.

We discovered this campsite because of a friend who already made an reservation. It is not easy to find because it's not on the two main beaches, but on Coral SANDY beach. The atmosphere is really great, everybody eats supper together at night because they make only 1 kind of meal. There is also no wifi so we had a lot of interaction with the other campers. The whole beach + campsite just really is basic but that's also a bit of the magic, when we were in our tent (air mattresses + tent already there) we could look right into the rainforest through the muskito net!

Important:
- there is only power between 6 pm and 12 pm because only then the generator is on.
- make sure you bring cash, no Atm on the islands.

We had a really great time camping on the Perhentian Islands. It's really cool to listen to the noises of the rainforest and ocean at night. The tents are big enough for two and in good condition. The food is great. They also do a bbq every now and then which was great! The team is really nice and we felt very welcomed and at home from the minute we got there. Would highly recommend it if you are looking for a bit of an adventure on you trip to Malaysia!

My children and I had a great time here. We love the campsite surrounded with trees and awoken by the melodious chirping of white-rumped shama. The open air shower is refreshing. The sunset view on the rock is stunning and at night, the sky is filled with stars and we saw a a very bright shooting star. The water is crystal clear and great for swimming. The humble owner, WokLan and his two staffs are helpful and friendly. Thank you Rainforest Camping.

I really really wanted to like this place as the idea and concept is so cool and there is nothing else like it on the island. However, they have some things they need to work on. Because it's not on one of the main beaches, my boat driver claimed to have never heard of it before and dropped me off at Coral Bay, a 20-minute walk away. It was fine and I got there. However, when I arrived, the owner (I forget his name!) was so irritated with that that he didn't give me a proper welcome - it was just home trying to call the boat company and explaining how frustrating the whole thing is. In doing so, he forgot to inform me that dinner is communal, so he said I was "late" to dinner. However, I'm a vegetarian and wasn't too pleased to find that dinner was fish curry. There also just wasn't enough food for everyone there. Another big complaint is that they ran out of drinking water. Blankets in the tents would be nice.

That said, it is really peaceful. The beach is stunning. I found it to be a little isolating as a female solo traveler - especially when walking back at night having had dinner elsewhere, but was glad to have camped there for two nights.

I realy love this place and the staff too. It is not the cheapest on the island you can get but you get exactly what you pay for and what the name promised. You got your tent a little bit up the hill right in the jungle, your own beach where you can even go snorkeling around, a very cool cafe with limited but delicious food (try the prahta) and you get a very, very friendly and also very funny staff who love to fool around.
I've spent there a whole week and i won't miss a single day.
One more... to have a cool shower right in the jungle with all that noises from the jungle (don't forget to look up to sky) like that bird call "okidoki...doki doki" is payless...

Clear water, beautiful coral, amazing view!
With much respect for nature. The Rainforest crew makes you feel at ease with a warm welcome. Limited but delicious menu. We especially liked the Athubatu fried rice. Tents are perfect for 2 plus backpacks. Basic comfort but everything you need. Enjoy the forest shower, clean western toilet and the sound of nature. The private beach is unique. Perfect for snorkling, relaxing or a forest walk along the coastline. Our stay was amazing! We hope the campsite can keep this serenity, charm and good vibe if more tourists find their way. We would definately come back to this beautiful place.

In all honesty this review would have been better had we not had a bad experience with the owner as we were leaving, I will explain that later and start with some positives.

I will start by saying the islands themselves are amazing and definitely worth the trip. This review is not indicative of whether the trip is worth it, it really is.

The location is remote and has stunning views, the volunteer staff were pleasant and helpful, the puppies on site were completely adorable, and the complementary breakfast is okay ( two slices of toast with butter and jam, with tea or coffee).

The negatives far outweigh the positives though.

The tents are extremely basic (to be expected) and consisted of a couple of filthy bedrolls on a hard wooden foundation, the fly screens still allowed mosquitos to enter and the whole area is pitch black after midnight.

The mosquitos in the forest are insane in number and size, at any time of the day or night making showering extremely unpleasant, as soon as you wash off your repellent you are bombarded. I received about 5 or 6 new bites every shower.

The trail to any sort of restaurant or shop off site is completely unlit and treacherous.

You have to go to the bar area to charge your phones, tablets etc and the generator is only on for a few hours each night (you drain your battery a lot just through torch usage).

Many of these negatives are somewhat to be expected given what you are signing up for.

However as we were leaving we were informed that we had 9rm outstanding for some drinks, we had not purchased these drinks and told them as such. This was fine as mistakes are made and we thought nothing of it and continued to walk down to our next stopover. As we were walking away the owner chased after us and claimed we'd purchased these drinks from him personally, although that morning was the first time I'd even seen him. We refused to pay and his continued insistence became more aggressive until we finally walked away only to be bid farewell with a mouthful of abuse.

We checked in nearer to Coral Bay at butterfly chalets. We received a detached, well-built chalet, with a fan, electricity outlets, balcony with amazing view over the bay, private shower/toilet, towels, and a friendly owner for 70rm/night. That is 10rm/night more than camping. That is 5rm more per person (less than 2 Aud). This made me feel like I had truly been ripped off.

There are also claims of being eco-friendly but I suspect this is more the owner trying to line his pockets as much as possible.

3 months of travelling and this is the worst experience of our trip.

Look for accommodation on AirBnb in peak season and find somewhere once you arrive in off peak season as many have no online presence. Avoid hostelworld completely.

Do not stay here.

"I'm sorry that your stay here at Rainforest Campground was unpleasant. While the mix up with the drinks was an honest mistake, you should not have been made to feel like you were being verbally abused. I have spoken with the staff member and he apologizes for coming off as aggressive. I wish you would have told us about the problems you were having while you were still here. The staff are eager to make sure everyone has a nice time and we would have done whatever we could to make your stay more comfortable: such as letting you borrow a headlamp, or suggesting a different place to stay that has the amenities you want. We at Rainforest Campground pride ourselves on being environmentally conscious. Which means that in addition to recycling and protecting the wildlife in the area, we also use the least amount of resources possible. This is why the generator only runs between certain hours. You were informed of this upon arrival, as are all of the guests. If this was unsatisfactory for you from the start we would have happily returned your money and helped you find other accommodations."
