About Us: We are newly established campsite operator (2015) at Perhentian Island of east coast peninsular Malaysia. Situated at RainForest Beach on the Perhentian Kecil (Small) Island. We have secluded private beach on our area. At the moment its just us operating in the area with total privacy, very close to nature and totally island style living. Truly the last paradise of island in Malaysia. We are open whole year even during Monsoon period. From the campground, to the secluded private beach and to our restaurant/bar around 200 meters. If you are nature lover and looking to experience island living in tent on quiet jungle with access to secluded private beach, then your expectation will be match. Lots of fish and corals around the area, ground squirrel, monitor lizard, turtle, gecko, various types of insects and protected bird species so you have to be alert at all times. You may have to do lots of walking to other popular places like Coral Bay, Long Beach and Fisherman village.

Remember you are going camping, but with that said it's a very simple yet relaxing way to camp! The tents are provided (elevated so no rain issues) and the bed is soft enough. There is a toilet (albeit outside with bugs... remember, camping). The basic amenities are provided but still, don't forget to take your tent light, a portable fan, a light blanket, mosquito repellent, & towel/beach towel. This seems like a lot but I managed in a tiny bag for four days coming from KL. I will say it does get a bit damp, it is a rainforest after all. There was a huge storm and a forest mouse made its way into my tent. With that said however sleeping in the sounds of the rainforest are peaceful. Staff is also volunteer basis not the most attentive but around and friendly enough. lastly the power is only on for a few hrs a day so must plan wisely. If you stay right next door you get power in your tent. The orangutang campgrounds are literally steps away. Careful if you take food (not supposed to bc of the ants) But would be wise idea anyway for beach snacks etc. Also, there was beer available but very expensive, one can for 12rm and not so cold. try the restaurant next door (up the stairs). The saving grace of this place was how peaceful the mornings were... just a few minutes walk down to the cafe you can sip coffee and look out over the sea. Very peaceful. Free breakfast if stay 3 nights otherwise I do not recommend the food. There is an excellent very nice dining just down the path, but book in advance (same place as cold beer with a really friendly local owner). This area is quite secluded. 10/15mins walk to coral beach and another 10 to long beach. The path to coral beach is only lit for a short period so if walking back at night take a light! However the path is well paved the entire way. There is also another excellent beach (my favorite) in the other direction about 5mins walk to Mira beach! Although there is a private beach at rainforest the construction was sadly more present than I anticipated. It's actually the first thing you see when you arrive. It doesn't distract from peaceful camping experience but I def found better beaches. For the price it's great as a solo traveler. However if don't want to camp or have at least two people you can check out butterfly chalets just down the path. Its about 70rm for two people versus 50rm for one in a tent. Or any of the more expensive options around the island.

We found this place on the more quiet side of the island during a walk one night. The place is absolutely stunning. Located on a (almost) private beach you really have time to have some relaxing days. While the restaurant/bar/recepetion were located right on the bach, the camping place were 5-10 minutes walk up the hill in the forest. It really was an experience to stay two nights in tent there! During the nights we were able to see fireflies flying around the tent. There were a lot of mosquitos, to make sure to bring a spray. And be prepared to meet the sharks in the water!!! One of our best places during our travel through malaysia. Thanks!

Straightaway have to say cannot comment on campsite but did visit their beach bar situated on headland overlooking rainforest beach. Lovely place to chill and sit and take in the views. About 15 mins walk from coral beach along coastal path in jungle terrain. Nice little beach about 150 mts in length but no sun beds just use towels. Some construction going on behind beach. Looks are deceiving has some good snorkeling here. Have discovered huge shoals of fish on a number of occasions and have encountered stingray here just around headland area. What was great this time just in the area off the headland in front of the bar we discovered two black tipped reef sharks about a metre in length which seem to inhabit this area. Harmless creatures. Fantastic to watch. Recommended area to visit to get away from the madness of long beach.

We stay 3 nights.Tent was new so good. Mattress was confortable. Camping was simple but ok. Breakfast with pancakes is good. However the breakfast with 2 toasts and jam was not enough. We ask for 2 extra toats. They gave it to us without saying a word. When we checked out, they ask us 5MYR for the 2 extra toasts! There is an agressiv dog in the camping and he is not always on leaf. The first morning he grunted us and the owner smiled. We had to ask him to take the dog!

Stayed here just one night, and highly enjoyed it! Here are the main pros and cons - PROS: -Secluded location/private beach (with some bioluminescent plankton at night!) -Very few tents = sharing the space with very few people -Cool cafe/lounge areas -2 RM water bottle refills -Great volunteer staff -Connected with a nice walking path to other locations around the island CONS: -Buggy -- like reallyyy buggy -Hot at night -Bathrooms are way in the forest by the tents, so annoying to access from the beach -Though a pro as well - it truly is far from everything! Quite a walk to cheap restaurants, dive shops, bars, people... It was a fun experience and I'm glad I went! But I was also glad to only stay one night and then move elsewhere on the island. I suggest booking a night and seeing what you think!

I stayed here for a week. Absolutely it’s a great place to stay at. It’s away from downtown, you will enjoy the peacefulness and quietness here. Most importantly they have their private beach. Not suitable who looking for a comfort zone, where closer to natural , here is a wonderful place. It’s my 2nd time be here, I’ll come back again.

I never do reviews for anything, but when i went to Rainforest, I'd review it over and over again because of how much i loved the stay there. First of all, this place isn't for the people who are seeking a comfortable stay. This place is gorgeous, it's in the jungle and a private beach. So this is nature at it's finest. The tents are comfortable, it might be hot but it's a good experience of camping. The people there are the nicest people ever, they're kind and they welcome you with a big open heart. The place where people go and eat and chill there has the most beautiful scenery and the nicest decoration. The beautiful thing about this place is that its very environmental and a place where people could experience what nature feels like, this place was a great challenge that me and my friend loved, we're going back there soon. Oh, and don't miss the hammocks and the sunset there. -Subhi

I arrived with two friends and had a tent to myself. Very primitive living, it rained a couple of times and I left with everything smelling damp. HOWEVER. I have never camped before and this was an excellent first time. Tent very comfortable, with mosquito netting on the tent, plus rain cover you zip up. Having a cold shower in the jungle with no roof to the cubicle was liberating! One day it poured with rain and we came back to the campsite to find rain covers all zipped up and my friends rucksack moved from outside the tent to the inside. I had been travelling for over 3 months and this was the first place I felt my luggage was very safe. There are two dogs - Boss and Lola - that protect you and the campsite. Lovely dogs and give you a real sense of security. The guy running the place is a sweetheart, very good cook, and interesting to talk to. Chill out areas primitive but really nice to watch the sunset from. We walked a lot of the island and took a snorkelling trip- this place has the best beach! My one big complaint is it's quite a hike to tent and toilet facilities. But that's the unhealthy me talking. Being far from the beach and public footpath adds to the security. Ignore the construction site (the guys working there are really nice), dump your backpack and chill out. Booked for one night, stayed three and sad to leave.

We stayed for three nights at this wonderful campsite. We were happily welcomed with a glass of water and the staff really took their time to explain several things about the camping. Living here is pretty primitive, but that's what we were looking for. The beds were okay, we felt the wooden floor beneath us, but in these conditions, I have to say we had some good nights of sleep. The tents are standing in a forest, which means the tent doesn't turn into an oven in the morning. Sanitary was also primitive, but good. The staff working there changes very often since they're volunteers. They are very thoughtful and won't mind a talk. The communal dinner is delicious and a great way to meet your fellow campers. Also the cafe area was really relaxed and the cook cooks good food. We just spent big parts of the day sitting there. Unfortunately the Perhentians are so populair that hotels pop out of the ground like mushrooms. The private beach isn't that private anymore, because a part of the beach is now a construction site. If you want to lay in your hammock, you almost get pushed out by the fence the construction workers placed. Of course the RainForest Camping can't help this, but it takes a lot of the charm away from the serene area. Nevertheless we had a memorable time here and we really enjoyed the nature surrounding us.
